Yes! Aussiemate, I knew you were reading all these comments and good to see you back as most of us wanted. There are times one would get out of line but realize they spoke to soon and it gets crazy but you know all that but it happens to all of us anyway. By the way are you Australian? when I saw your name the first thing I thought of was Aussiemate and I think it sounds pretty cool. Anyway, be happy mate!

First of all, I would like to apologize to Rob for venting my frustrations on his site. Rob has done an excellent job of maintaining what is propably the busiest Ferrari-related message board on the Web.

Secondly, I would like to apologize to the other members of this board who are polite and quick to offer assistance and advice to others and who comprise probably 90% of all F-chatters. It was wrong of me to condemn the site for the rudeness of a few individuals.

Also, I have personally never been treated rudely by any F-chatter and, in my short time here, have actually been the recipient of much respect.

You are all right. I should've just continued to ignore the various rude comments and attacks on other members, as they are just a natural by-product of such a large and diverse forum.

Although it is no excuse, I was frustrated last week by outside issues only to be confronted in the middle of my frustration by the mistrust and lack of respect shown to Mr. Gammon when he had only come to us for advice. It was one more in a recent emergence of similar incidences on the site. I overreacted. My apologies to all.

Modman: Aussiemate??!!LOL!

Ya know be rest assured he reads our comments but he won't reply, if I said I was leaving I'd do what he did but keep reading the continuing arguements. He's probably thinking, what a bunch of morons. Skip this topic and he may come back as someone else like aussiemate or something. On to other subjects fellas..

Its too bad people feel that way and leave. I learned alot about ferraris here, but ive learned even more about life here. I met alot of cool people and got alot of good advice from them that i use or plan on using. Im not here that often beacause i dont have time, but now that my computer finally got here (damn gateway) i dont have to walk across campus to the library, so i wil be on more often. Cars and ferraris just arent important to me at this stage in my life, hell, before i went home last weekend ihadnt driven a car in a long time. Im still getting my work done not only so i can get a good job and be able to afford cars, but also because i have to learn to be sucessful. On top of that i cant relax and have fun if i dont have all my work done and am getting good grades. WHart told me once that you have to find the balance between school work and fun, i think i found that balence. anyway, i got a but OT here, but its too bad people are leaving. who else left while i was gone?

Terry,
One has only to be seduced by a "smooth" Con man once in life to realize how amoral they are. They have no conscience as to who they hurt and thus feel no guilt.
So now you have learnt a lesson but don't let it jade you into being suspicious of all people. In my experience most people are good and well intentioned.

I really have enjoyed F-chat and have learned a lot over the last year or so. To see Wayne leave is very disappointing, his knowledge is very valuable. I understand his frustration, as I read more and more threads attacking others for not owning a Ferrari and acusing people of being scam artists simply for asking advice.
I have learned a big lesson in the last few weeks when approached by a member of F-chat to introduce him to and show him F-related areas of my town. I then met this individual and loaned him magazines and gave him a few hours of conversation about my experience with Ferraris. I was supposed to meet this person at a local dealer to get my books back and to introduce him to the dealers in town. Arriving a hour and a half late without apology, I finally went on my merry way. I have since had two phone calls from two different dealers telling me that this individual has been touring town dropping my name to get test drives in 355s and 348s and then standing them up for appointments to view and possibly purchase different cars. This has been very embarrassing for me, and disappointing. I know that all of this has been brought upon by myself, and I should not be as trusting of people I meet on the internet. The only reason for posting this is to inform others that might be approached to show someone the sights of their city without knowing their intentions. No real damage was done, however some relationships will have to be mended.

Even though Wayne is not logging in anymore, here goes:

1) I've learned more about F- (especially my own) logging into this chat room than if I spent 3 days in a F- dealership.

2) Silly arguments happen all the time, just ask your significant others.

3) Amidst some of the B.S. F- Chatters always uncover the bigger B.S. that could hurt us all.

4) Don't leave.

5) This is the saddest thread posted to date (since I first got here)

Wayne, know how you feel. I don't really post that much anymore. I enjoy having my Ferrari and Fchat has made working on it a hell of alot easier. People like you, Magoo, Sloan, Gault, Verrel and some others are always eager to help out. I try to stay away from the posts that look like trouble in the making. And do stess my own opion a little more than I should when I know what I am saying to be correct. But face it in every place you go there is going to be idiots and people who will argue about toilet paper if given the chance. Wish you would stay or at least hang around even if just to help some of us that are serious about our cars.

I have gotten and given my fair share of lumps in here, but it is all in good fun. I was part of the longest thread we hand in here. There was pleanty of hard feelings in that one, but when the dust settled we we're still friends. As matter of fact the tread turned kinda silly at the end.

Dude if you wanna go that's too bad. I say toughen up, kick back, and you'll see that we aren't that bad.

Great regular contributors, excellent & frequently present, fair & easy going administrator, Rob.

Easy to use and research, again, great site!

Wayne I have to agree with you about FC. I havent posted in a few months because of the things Bill Gannon (did i spell that right?) was attacked for. I am considering posting more, but one thing to consider is that there are jerks in the world...don't let them make this site unworthy of your time and attention. This is a great site and it is still great, even with its bad apples.

My passion is too strong to let a few people take me away from this site.

I look forward to posts by L.Wayne, Cmfparr, Magoo, Ed Gault and many others as they are very knowlegeable and are always tactful.

Some of the knuckleheads on here with cool hip gansta rap handles come in and ruin it for everybody. when they get involved I quit reading as the topic is immediately lost in the muck.

I was looking forward to learning alot about the 275GTB since I don't know squat about the old cars and you rarely get a chance to meet the real owner.

Wayne, I urge you to reconsider. I have been using F-Chat for well over a year, and have never had a problem with anyone on this site. As a matter of fact, I have made some life long friends, and have learned to do things to my Ferrari that I normally could not have. This web site was built by Rob out of love for the marque, and I stand behind him for doing so. This site is invaluable to new owners and enthusiast alike. Wayne, you must forget about the bad apples, and use this site.

I love this site, and use it just about everyday. I'll never leave, I need this site!! :-)

people are entitled to their opinions , while some of it you might agree on, some you wont..

you have a wealth of information regarding f-cars, as well as the historic ones..and hate to see you leave, but on the other hand, i wont plead with knee pads on to make you stay..you are a mature adult and if thats your descision to leave, so be it...

Wayne,
first I wanted to respond:
See Ya!

but then I read the 275GT again and boy I just don't get it from some. Yes it makes me angry to see that but you have to understand this is part of this board and chat rooms in general. Get 1000 people in one room and you get a wealth of information but also one scam artist, 10 jerks and some wanna-bes.

Just be mature enough to read over that and moe on. Maybe post a sarcastic comment yourself. Thats what I usually do :-)

Wayne,

It would really be a shame to loose you! I consider you as the specialist at vintage Ferraris here at Fchat. It was really good to know that you could even ask all questions about these beauties and get to know their history and everything else from you (Remember your thread about the 375MM? I learned a lot!). People like you make the board even more complete. Anyway hope you dont leave. If you do nevertheless I will definitely mail you directly when having questions about vintage Ferraris since I know nobody who knows better about these cars!

wayne come back ! wayne please don't go ! (think shane the movie).
seriously though, please stick around. i share your disgust with some of the less savory members but i just ignore them - a lot easier to do on the internet than in person .......

and besides, the last time i got tired of fchat and ventured over to forum (or whatever its called) it was a severe disappointment. virtually no owners and lots of prepubescent teens talking harebrained bs.
the serious people are on this site; along with a few less serious. beats the hell out of anything else out there.
in any case, i will be keeping your email in hopes of someday needing your advice on a vintage purchase.......

Chatting is much more risky/rewarding than the car magazines, that are so careful not to hurt anyone's feelings, that they become lame in the level of risk they will take. They keep it shallow and safe (boring).

If you can't tear yourself away from a thread gone wrong, or let some joker have the last word... if you can't stand to see your name in print getting some negative remark that you don't deserve.... well I'd stick to Road&Track or AutoWeek... much safer place.

Not everyone has what it takes to jump into a free-for-all. That is why auto mags hire Editors.
I personaly like to have the freedom to fight or ignore, and be my own Editor. For sometimes higher risk lead to higher rewards.

Here's my latest post from the 275 thread...

Geez, I can't even leave for 3 hours to take my transmission class. It really breaks my heart to hear users like Wayne, Chris, and Stephen not want to visit FerrariChat.com as much or at all. They're very valuable elements of what makes this site work. My next reaction flips the other way as I understand this is just a one dimensional communication medium. We have such a diverse group of users on every level. It doesn't matter what you say, I guarantee someone will interpret it wrong. Understand the limitations and don't get so damn worked up about every little thing. I think this post is perfect, you have a good balance of info seekers, info experts, doubters, supporters, and comedians. If you can't see through this and handle it, I don't want you on FerrariChat.com anyway. Leave the board because you're not as interested in Ferraris or you're addicted to the internet or you have carpel tunnel syndrome (sp?), but please don't tell me you don't like FerrariChat.com because you can't filter the crap, especially when you add much value to the site. That's something broken on your end and I can't fix it. I may create an owners only topic, but trust me, we'll still have diversity and diverse comments.

BTW, Wayne isn't even an owner, but he knows more than 99.9% of us, so even a owners topic wouldn't be best. What, we need an only topic? Heck, we're all one now and then. I was just one to Jennie when she wanted attention and I turned her away because I'm writing this post. This is ridiculous.

I don't like Wayne leaving or Chris's comments or how users acted in the 275 thread, but I can shut this computer off and be asleep. Life goes on, I enjoy every minute I can with what I'm dealt.

Perhaps you'll read the comments posted here. A few have asked you to reconsider, as do I. I've appreciated your expertise and I feel it would be a shame to lose such a valuable resource.

Waxing a bit allegorically, this reminds me of Cervantes' Don Quixote. There's no sense flailing at windmills. I'm guilty (we all are, really) of overreacting to unpleasant situations at times (perhaps I should call my GTB "Rosinante"). It's best to take a few steps back, assess the situation and proceed calmly and rationally in dealing with such matters. I've certainly learned to do that professionally.

Ignore the nonsense which can permeate this forum and concentrate on the benefits it can offer.

Barry

The whole tuck and roll deal seems a bit of a drastic measure, L. Wayne. I'm with those who say it's pretty easy to blow past the crud that you don't find of merit (this post, for instance?). W/367 posts in just a month or so, maybe you're just going through a bout of F-Chat overload. You're a fountain of knowledge, L. (if I may be so bold). Hope you feel free (and welcome) to swing back by and download another dose or two on us some time down the road.

Boy, if you think this is bad, go to the Ferrari List. There are brokers over there that will not even give you a break of KY Jelly before they screw you, on a deal or with thier opinions.

I don't think you should be so hasty, L Wayne, you've gotten a fair amount of respect from quite a number of us, and we have acknowledged your contributions. Who says the board always has to be fair, or even right? I honestly didn't think the 275 thread got that out of hand; i didn't really see the kind of disrepect that would rouse your personal ire. That's my point of view, and you may see alot of juvenile behavior here, but how is it much different than anywhere else in the world? (I sit in these high powered meetings in NYC, with people that are mostly impressed with themselves, and i gotta tell ya, talk about a bunch of douch-bags; and these are the "respected" members of the bar, and business community). So, there are multiple points of view, some you may disagree with. Express your discontent, but why color us all bad?

"Quit yer bit##ch'n" my mooma would say....well not exactly because she'd never use that kind of language but you get what I mean.

Forums are meant to provide a haven for expression- I hate to say they often get poisoned with lurkers who's purpose is to stir the pot. I ignore them - never give them the satisfaction.

Ferrarichat is a great place......where else can a Ferrarichick like me be treated like...well, one of the "boys" I really appreciate it. For the few that may have stepped over the boundaries of disrespect - you don't even compare to the many of you on this forum that provide information, conversation, entertainment. I appreciate that so much. I'm lucky to call many of you and your familes "friends" now even.

The world is not a pretty place - but don't cloud your judgement of others because of a few. The majority of my fellow chatter are wonderful - well worth the few that um......tarnish the silver.

I will miss you Wayne - but I really do hope you'll reconsider.....

I'm with you Chris. I'm not leaving, but once some of these people get involved in a thread, I move on. I've had SO much good information shared with me on this board it's hard to leave. But these people that thrive on generating conflict need to go fight with their wives.

I understand. I came here to make friends and share experiences and learn about Ferrari's.

But, it seems the general tone has turned very ugly lately, I could name the individuals responcable, they are few in numbers, they never have a positive thing to say, but it would serve no postive purpose to name names.

I am sure they are just as unpopular and unhappy in real life, as they present themselves on here.

I do not want to leave, I consider myself lucky to have what I have with my Ferrari's. I have made some very nice friends on here, and I think I have contributed from time to time.

But I have to admit, I do not rush to Ferrarichat like I used to, and if I see a couple of people on here I just leave. I am not intolerant of others people's opinions, I welcome them, but if that person's comment are always rude, negative and offensive, I would rather be around people who are more positive.

I hope Wayne returns, but can we blame him and others for leaving?

Chris

Wayne, take your emotions out of this issue. If you don't like that thread, stop reading it. Better yet, stop posting under it so you don't feel like you're being attacked personally. Focus on the issues related to Ferrari... that's what brought you here in the first place... not "who's country is better than who's". Face it, for every 9 great people in this world (and F-chat), there's one a$$hole. This is life.

Hate to see you go but maybe it's in your best interest. Too bad. Best of luck in the future.

Wayne, methinks you are practicing exactly what you are railing against--intolerance. Pity.

L. Wayne Ausbrooks. I hope you reconsider, though i understand your frustration with the 275gtb thread an others. Fortunately as i see it most of the negativity an rudeness comes from a small few or they are the product of misunderstandings that comes with this sort of medium an its limitations. That combined with such a passionate audience makes for some flaming threads.
Read my post i just sent on the 275gtb thread. Its the first time ive replied to any negative comments. It's just silly where these threads can go at times.
Hope the good outweighs the bad.

Wayne, don't give up yet. There will always be a core of fair-minded devotees here who really enjoy talking with others about a shared passion, and who don't spend the time being acrimonious or jealous.

Calm down, Wayne. FerrarChat is like any other place in the world, with many different people with many different points of view. That's the way life is, and you can't just hide from it. You read what you want, ignore what you don't, reply to what you want to reply. You can get insulted walking down the street, are you going to stop walking? This is still a great place, even with the constant inflood of new people.

Cant you just stay and ignore the aggressivity (sp? ) of some ? It would suck to loose you as you have an immense knowledge about ferraris !

Of all of the Ferrari related message boards, F-Chat is undoubtedly the largest. The sheer number of members here means that there is contantly something new to read and that there is a large pool of enthusiasts and owners to share information, stories, and advice on all things Ferrari. It should be a great resource for anyone with an interest in Ferraris.

Unfortunately, it is not. For anyone who has not been a long standing member, it is hostile and unfriendly. And when the opportunity arises to attack each other, everybody jumps in, as evidenced by the recent out-of-hand thread on who's country is better than whos.

This is not what it should be, a place where people who share a common interest come to also share information, advice, and maybe an anecdote or two. What a shame.

So long, F-Chat. I'm outta' here!

L. Wayne Ausbrooks
