I had a chance to test drive the Maserati Cambiocorsa this weekend, and I must say I was very impressed. I personally think the car looks great, and it feels very solid and fast. The engine sound is terrific, even if there is too much sound deadening material inside the car. While it is not the fastest thing around (helped by carrying over 3800 lbs), you can feel the power of the 390 hp /330 lb-ft of torque wanting to push you along. For a liveable everyday sportscar, with a 4 year warranty and all the creature comforts, I don't think you can go wrong.

I checked out the website. Sadly, the Maser looks like a Dodge Neon in paint trim. It's kind of round, tall and narrow looking.

Sort of funny - did you notice that the Maser-Spyder camera car chasing Shumi almost lost it on turn 8? Was that Luca Badoer at the wheel?

I was there also and saw the display. Nice sounding car but rather boring to look at.

It sure sounded good but it did not make me want one. It looks like a Japanese car. Nothing spectacular enough to loosen my wallet.

Schumi came out and first drove a Maserati from the 1950's around the Brickyard, then immediately drove the new Maserati Trofeo/Challenge car. Schumi was not taking it easy. Seeing him drive the older Maserati racer was a joy to watch. He wasn't going slow either, he wasn't going 100%, but certainly faster than any of us would go.

Believe me when I say the white with blue striped new Maserati Challenge car sounds way better than the 360 Challenge cars. Its a deeper sound and Schumi played it up big time. Once he completed his lap, he revved the engine about 6 or 7 times. The sounds reverberated throughout the stands. The car trust me sounds better than any Modena or Maranello. Go to www.maserati.com to see videos of Schumi driving the Maserati Challenger car at the Nurburgring.

There wasn't one guy in the stands that didn't want that Maserati after this demonstration. Rumor has it that the Maserati Challenge laps Fiorano at 1:26 versus 1:31 for the 575M.

Why BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar F1 teams don't have their drivers lap Indy in M3's, AMG's and XJR's is beyond me. Its a great marketing opportunity not realized.
