The 365 was definately very quick and agile, but the 512 BB was easier to drive handling was, torquier but no quicker (in fact I believe 0-100) slower. They worked out the bugs of the 365 with the 512, but boy is the 365 a fun fast car. The slowest of the bunch is the 512BBi but it is the most useable. Keeping those webers in tune with Emissions gear is not for the Faint of heart. Mr. Mike Sheehan knows the Boxers extremely well and he is a great resource on the subject his Ferraris online Website has some great cars and information on the BBs. |

Ross: I base it on the posts here and the experience with my 308QV. On the 308 I have had no fuel issues at all and the injection system has performed flawlessly. With carbs you have jet issues, float issues, leaks and balancing issues. From the posts here I understand that carbs can even have problems delivering fuel when cornering very hard. Having said all that when the carbs are jetted correctly, balanced, used regularly and maintained properly they perform well. Just my thoughts on it. Perhaps I'm somewhat biased since the mechanic is currently rebuilding all of my carbs.

I agree with Grant: I thought I wanted a carb version of the BB, but after much thought, I decided on the BBi. I am glad I did. The bottom line is, not how fast or light one is, campared to the other, but rather, how will one want to use the car? If you will drive it regularly, and want to just get in and go, then buy the BBi. If your use will be very limited, then go for the BB. My thoughts!!!

I choose the 512BB over the 512BBi as I wanted a carb car and the extra hp that goes with it. My understanding was that some of the aerodynamics and handling problems with the 365BB were worked out on the 512BB. If I was doing it again I would be very tempted with the fuel injection. |

365 BB is pretty rare, its also lighter than the 512BBs so it probably handles better |

Tom, I would be interested in a copy as well if not too much trouble. I have a 84 BBi and collect all articles on this great car.I live in California and 365s are almost impossible to find here legally. Dave |

the 365s are generally the ones to have, rarity - horsepower - a purer racing machine. David does have a great one. I have an article on all the diff boxers if you are interested. |

The torque difference is due to the 365BB's shorter stroke (81x71) vs the 512BB's (82x78), but the 365BB will have a higher redline. I'm starting to really like the more unique style of the triple taillight/exhaust motif of the 365BB, but it's greater rarity/age has got to make it a more difficult mistress (or are you planning on stealing David F's gorgeous example?) |

I am told that the 365 does not have as much low end torque as the 512. |

365 is thin, while the 512 is fat. 365 uses a 4.4 litre (.365*12) 180 degree flat V12 engine, while the 512 uses a 5.0 litre 180 degree flat V12 engine. In both cases, the engine lives above the transmission. |
