In sports I'm always supersitious, have to have a quarter in my left pocket and a tee in the right when I play golf (think about it, the extra weight of the quarter will obviously help me swing threw the ball and not slow down in the middle of the swing, kind of like a heavy flywheel, and the tee is if I actually hit the green and need to repair a ball mark, kind of an optimistic charm). In hockey I would always dress starting with the left side, God only knows why. I don't do anything superstitious in normal non-competitive things though. Starting the jeep for the first time each day may require some superstitious behavior: pump the gas 6 times, let the electric fuel pump run for like 10 seconds, make some gyrations possibly accompanied by profuse cursing, pump the pedal like mad while turning over the engine, and sure enough she starts. It obviously starts because it can see the gyrations and hear the cursing, and in fact has nothing to do with gas draining out of the carb over night. Staring the Ferrari is more based on prayer as it is fuel injected.

I've only had one break in - and it was about a year ago. I still remember that day, the thursday before 9/11, walking out to my car with all the cleaning buckets and all, and wait... what is that? the top is down, I didn't leave the top down, and its sorta propped up - and low and behold - the entire interior: stripped. Long and short of it - insurance was HELL to me, and they didn't cough up all the dough, and I ended up buying my very own stolen seats back. You know its yours too, when they smell a certain way and have crevices in the leather that YOU KNOW! Police could care less, they said, "get over it, we have more important things to do." Not sure about that, but oh well, at a pricetag of $7450 for two seats (unassembled) for my car (non-Fcar)... ugh.

Supersitious? I'm superstitious about parking in certain spots or venturing down particular roads where I've been caught speeding before.. well of course, that just depends. =)

Jason, I never had a break-in in any cars past or present. And I've lived in 3 different cities in the state. Only troubles I've had were mechanical gremlins and accidents.

Here is one for you guys. A while back I posted on the thread "Dog Owners Dilemma", after a guy posted a pic of his Rottweiler in his Ferrari. I have 2 rotties guarding my yard here in Bridgeport,CT. That night, some a)&^#*les drove a vehicle through the fence, smashed windows in 6 or 7 vans, stole stone saws + other various tools, and slashed several tires. That's what happens when you're near some housing projects...

Jim: Where do you live? I've never heard of this kind of bad luck.

Here in rural southern Oregon, car theft is almost unheard of. Of course, that is probably why my Ferrari insurance is about $200 per year.

If I had seven thefts or attempted thefts, I would move.

Where do you guys live? I have never had a car stolen or even know anyone who has. I leave my house unlocked except at night and half the time my new Corvette sits unlocked. I guess it is just not something to worry about around here. Willis you live close. Anything happen to your cars?

Bought a Honda Accord back in 1988. Front end got crunched by a hiked up truck that backed quickly out of the one-way parking lot at the building where I worked. Only had the car for 2 weeks.

About a month later, I got sandwitched on the freeway in foggy conditions during morning commute. Damage was limited to front and rear bumpers plus part of the trunk lid. 2 months after that, brakes locked up and tapped the car ahead of me. Another weird thing was that the battery drained every other month. I think that car was cursed.

similar story , after my wife questioned why her parents were buying her younger sister a new jeep to keep on the streets in NYC, anything that goes wrong with the car (an lots has) is now my wife's fault. go figure

tom, you are right, which is why i qualified it, and yes i did knock on wood !!!
the colleague was forewarned and it was put through inspection at the f dealer and all repairs done as per his request so he was happy; besides that his previous car had been a tvr so he was very used to stuff going wrong....and he was the head of hr so i guess he had it coming to him anyway......haha

if you are superstitious then I am surprised you wrote the statement

"i bought the 512tr, which has never gone wrong in any big way (a few things here and there but nothing major). so its now my lucky car. "

That is a surefire jinx if I ever heard one. Did you touch wood? BTW, I can't beleive you sold your unlucky car to a collegue, nice friend you are :-)

good luck or as they say in italy - in boca lupo - crepi il lupo

i must admit that i am pretty superstitious - must be all that time spent in italy. anyway, just wondering if anybody had had similar experiences......
my 348ts was a very unlucky car for me. the previous owner never had a problem. 3 months after i had bought it, it got stolen. it was recovered with its electronic guts ripped out and then spent the next many weeks in the shop. then i had a series of small mishaps with it: throttle sticking, starter motor failing, spoiler ripping, roof leaking, battery dying, tire going flat, locks not working etc
then somebody tried to steal it again ! and left it with the door mangled, window broken, steering wheel cowling broken (single biggest pain to replace time wise), locks and ignition wrecked. that was the last straw, so i decided to sell it and buy (surprisingly?) another different fcar. when it was being inspected by the eventual buyer (a colleague), they discovered that i needed new brake rotors in the front and a few other things.... that got done and i was rid of the car (thank god). the next owner never had a problem.....until the car was stolen. (this is a seperate piece of interesting trivia - my insurance company had told me the fcar rates were not that high because of the difficulty in fencing those cars - they might have changed their minds after insuring me...)

so having purged myself of this car, i bought the 512tr, which has never gone wrong in any big way (a few things here and there but nothing major). so its now my lucky car.

am i crazy or have the rest of you had wierd car experiences too?
