Some times in life it's the negative things that motivate you the most. It is ,however, very important to not do something out of spite for what some one said. Proving a point about one's abilities and accomplishing the goals that are most important to you are not always the same thing. Sometimes you just shrug it off as them not understanding you and leave it at that.

Different note... I drive my 308 practically every day. I bought it to drive it so I do. Of course I get a lot of looks all the time. I have gotten so used to this that I tend to look past people looking at me. This has generated people I know saying something like "I seen you the other day in your Ferrari and you didn't even wave". Or I find myself passing people and realizing at the last minute that they are some one I know and it is to late to wave.

William,
That was a fantastic story! I've been a Ferrari dreamer since 5-6th grade.. Everyone who knew me always referred to me as the guy who knows his cars.. One day walking home from school, I heard the engine of a car pulling up behind me.. I yield out Ferrari and turned around.. A beautiful red 308 was parking.. My buddies all asked how did I know that.....

How I would love to run into some old friends when my time comes, never to show off, but just to prove a point. If you put you mind to something you can make anything happen......

(I can't stand negative people)

My folks are coming up on their 50 year wedding anniversary...Makes you still believe in the institution of marriage!

My wife and I dated through High School and the Principal once called us into his office and scolded us for not dating other people and not exposing ourselves to more Social situations. We started dating in 1965, graduated in 1969 and were married in 1970. We have been happily married for 32 years. Shows how much he knew.

When I was still in HIgh-School/College (13th grade) I was working part time for a MLM company selling insurances. The job was not what I wanted but their training program was phantastic. BTW it is the same company that you see on Michael's cap: "Deutsche Vermgensberatung" . They have a great way of getting people fired up.
One of their things was asking for big goals in life. I saw the BMW Z1 roadster and fell in love. I actually went out of my way and ordered the car at a BMW dealer. 2 1/2 years waiting list I figured I had to make the money by then.
We gratuated 1/2 year later and I went into business myself as a car dealer. Only 1 1/2 years later I could not resist anymore and bought a BMW Z1 from another dealer off the showroom floor. While my school buddies were taking $400 a month jobs at the local banks, thinking they were the big cheezes, I was riding in style. Evertime I saw one of them I laughed because they all thought I was nutz when I ordered the car not knowing how I would ever pay for it.

Funny how many teachers actually tell their students that kind of crap. My elementary teacher told my mom the same. I was rightous and that would hinder my ways in the future. Well I never did well in school just hung in there barely.

I guess she was right! NNAAAAAAAAAAAAA :-O

thanks Will, I guess I had the last laugh..but I did feel kind of bad afterwords..I'm only 28 years old and after thinking about it, I realized how lucky I am to be able to own a Ferrari while other folks are just barely able to feed there kids. It kind of puts it all into perspective.

There is an old Law School saying that goes something like this: students work their butts off to get straight A's so they can get the best jobs working for the C students....

"Dammit Jim I am a ferrari driver not a doctor!"

Tom: I cant believe a teacher would kill someones dreams like that. I know it happens, but I am just flabbergasted (is that a word??) I had a high school drafting teacher who always encouraged. I never did awesome in school, just got B's. sure worked hard though. even then, while showing him some of my dream cars, he said "someday you WILL get one". but to tell a kid to give it up because they arent going anywhere...is just evil.

a few years ago, i drove to a pub near the office to meet somebody after work. it was a reasonably warm evening so everybody was standing outside...including my boss...
he came over to have a look and gave me the usual 'guess i am paying you too much' line, but in the end was pretty cool about it. i even convinced him to get sportscar in the end so it worked out ok.
but that first moment when i saw him...not funny.

My third grade teacher told my Mother that I was very slow, and would never amount to much. So my Mom had my I.Q. tested. I went from slow to Menza. In high school I applied to ten colleges, and my guidance counselor told me to apply to colleges that I could get into, and I should not rule out a junior college. I got into every college I applied to, and ended up graduating from Kenyon College. My guidance counselor would not have been able to get into Kenyon.

I was not untill I got to college that teachers or professors realized I had what it took to be successful.

So far at 30years old I think that I am doing well for myself, but I have larger than life Goals set for myself.

I got one for ya...One of my high school teachers pretty much said I would be stuck in a blue collar job for the rest of my life and never amount o anything(well she was right about the blue collar I'm a mechanic) She also told me to get my nose out of those fancy car magazines because I would never own one...
Well about a month ago guess who I saw in the parking lot walking to her old beat up minivan?
Yup..my high school teacher I yell out "Hey remember me?(she did, even called me by name!)I guess I haven't amounted to much huh?" as I jump into my Ferrari and drive past grinning from ear to ear...needless to say her jaw dropped in amazment I yelled out "nice @#$%'n mini van".

William,

You can be happy that your friend reacted in such a positive way. Although I own my 348tb for about 1 and a half years I have just told three(!) friends that I actually own a Ferrari. In Germany you receive a lot more jealousy than in the US. Since all of my friends just finished University most of them dont even own a car. It was always difficult for a lot of them to accept that I did own a BMW Z3 Roadster during my studies. If they now would get to know that I drive a Ferrari and a BMW they would just go mad! As I enjoy driving the car I dont feel the need to tell them.
Last time I spoke with a friend in a pub about cars. He said he would never buy a Ferrari because you cant transport anything with these cars! Oh god, besides the fact that I dont know one single F-car owner who just owns one car I immediately recognised that you simply cannot talk with him about Ferraris. So do most of the people I know, sadly...

Con saluti cordialissimi,

In the mid eighties while in engineering school my roomate could never understand my passion for Ferrari. The Books. The posters. the Bburago models. religiously watching reruns of Magnum PI and Miami vice (for the cars of course). I was basically known as an italian car freak. I drove an X-1/9 and was always challenged by him and his 70' Cougar.

Anyhoo, while driving through Worcester on I-290 in my red TR, there was a red miata with its top down holding up the works in the fast lane. I was getting impatient grumbling a few words to myself. at that moment it pulls over to the right and allows a minivan and myself to procede forward. As I go to pass him I look over to see who was driving...and it is my old roomate! He looks over to me and his eyes get real wide as he recognizes me and a HUGE grin develops. He practically lost control of his car.
He then motions me to follow him to his house. I did and we caught up on quite a few years and met his family (also gave him a ride he wont soon forget). He kept shaking his head saying "holy sh*t, you actually got one!"

It was good to see him after so many years!
