Congrats, I agree with Herb. What are you doing on your computer? When I got my car I went out and drove it even though it didn't have a plate. I figured any cop would sympathize...

It's here !!! After decades of desire, a year of work, months of searching and weeks of waiting for delivery, my 308 GTSi arrived a few minutes ago!!! Only drove from van to parking space, but what a feeling!

Thanks guys, you make me feel right at home here! :-)

What I read about the handling is pretty much what the last few people have said. The reviews said handling is excellent and predictable with slight understeer up to the limit, but it is easy to get the tail out when you want to either by adding more throttle or by lifting. The "issue" is that once the tail is out, there is a certain point of no return where it's un-catchable, and this point arrives earlier than in some other cars.

The way I figure it, you've got to know what you're doing and pay attention to the car to get the most out of any car, and the 348 is no exception.

Congrats on the new toy.
You will love the 348.
Make sure that you update your profile with a picture of it. It is great to see everybody's cars and read something about them.

Again, congratulations.

Greg,
Congrats from a fellow 348 owner. You will love its looks, sound, and feel. Warning: Beware of the 348 bashers lurking in the shadows of FerrariChat.com

I got my first Ferrari, 84 308GTS QV, back in 1990 when I was 25. Black with black interior/red piping. It could use a little more power but the handling & brakes r outstanding. I litterally drove the wheels off it :) Still have it, great car

I read in several mags that at the limit the 348 has snap oversteer which is similair to early 911s. Its probably a great car but if u r going to push it hard u have to b on your toes

There are no real handling issues, other than the car is a lot stiffer and better built than the early 'tube chassis' 300 series Ferraris. These cars handle much better up to the cars limit and thus are a little less predictable in the hands of inexperienced drivers. The only other issue was the cable operated gear change was not up to par. Sat in a friend's tb during a track day (he drove) and the 348 performed beautifully.I was OK after a change of underwear ! Congrats on your new toy, I am sure you will have lots of fun with her.

Congrats on your Ferrari. Your appreciation only grows from here. I never thought I could be crazier about Ferrari before I got my first one, well, after 9 months I'm at least 10 times crazier about these horses.

What are these handling issues i hear so much about? Are 348's dangerous or unpredicatble?

I can't wait...I'll pick up my first Ferrari sometime early this week.

It's a 1989 348ts, red. To me, this is the best looking Ferrari before the 355. I also read all the warnings here about the 89's, and reviewed the service records I had on this car. Then I spent an afternoon in the library reading magazine articles (on microfilm!) from when it came out, to understand what all the handling "issues" are that everyone talks about.

After reviewing all that, I decided this car was for me...it's in the shop now getting some paint chips taken care of. Talk about an unbearable wait. :-S

My plan is to drive it for fun whenever it's nice (I'm in Denver, so there's plenty of days when it'll have to stay in the garage), and MAYBE take it to the track just for grins. I race another car right now, so I might be able to suppress the urge to take the Ferrari on the track... ;-)

Anyway, I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks, and found it very helpful. Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Greg
