Martin:

A friend of my started to import 360 spiders. He found a warranty company that would provide a warranty for these cars, at a cost that wasn't prohibitive. since he was doing this as a hobby, he only did 2 spiders, but got everything set up to get the cars in and approved. He did have a problem in that California has a 7500 mileage limit (must be over that) for vehicles not Califoria emissions approved from the start.

ON the older models there are slight price differences. On the older cars there were large differences in the built of the car as well. From engine setup and chassis to electronics. The Original V8 gives you a very good inside into all the varieties of the 308 for example.
There were virtually no 348 grey market cars, due to the conversion rate then. I remember during the early 90s I imported lots of Ferraris to Europe instead of the other way around. There was only one car that was of interest to the US market even as a grey market import: the F40!

On the 360 there ar enot many changes or dofferences between the Euro and the US. FNA is trying to make some nuts and bolts appear important for life safety but truth is, they are not. It is a panic to keep importers from importing cars right now, with a great exchange rate US to Euro.

The financial difference on a 308 is maybe $3,000 at best. The difference on a new 360 is $30,000 to $50,000 on Spiders. No warranty is the down draw you have but think of what you can fix for $ 50K. Some on the board want to make you believe that the gap will always remain. Fact is, it never has . Not on a 328, not aon a 308 and neither will it on the 360. Once the warranty is over there is no advantage of having a US vs a Euro. The gap will shorten and you will be the one making more money off your car in a resale, than the poor schmuck that paid $ 50K over sticker.

Either wait for your FNA car through the dealer, or get a gray market car.

They are non US cars imported for use in the USA that may or may not meet all of the US specs for that model year. Some older cars (like my 86 328) were imported without US emissions equipment including no cats. You could not easily register my car in a large metro area that does emission testing without changes. There are also some parts differences, both in the engine and body parts. My car has a higher compression ratio, higher HP and different gear ratios for example.

My car was imported legally (according to the rules of the time) and does have proper "papers" so it can be easily registered. The value of my car will be less than a US version because the market is smaller where people could own this car.

Could someone explain what exactly grey market ferrari are? Any differences to US specs? Should I beware of them? Why are they cheaper?
