If it's on a U.S. title. Leave well enough alone! There should be a sticker on it somewhere from who certified it. Mine is on the door sil and in the glove compartment. Still leave it alone. |

Curiosity killed the cat. Ignorance is bliss. Let sleeping dogs lie. Still waters run deep.

If you insist I suspect the DOT data bank can provide you with the information. As long as you have the vin, make and year it should not be a problem. All cars imported into the US have US Custom and DOT/EPA paperwork. This is partcularly true if brought in by private individuals. Check out their website. Your curiousity is somewhat akin to putting a loaded gun to your head pulling the trigger and hoping the bullet is a dud. |

The previous owner did have it (legally) titled down South...and when I registered it in NYS 20 years ago, the DMV inspected the car (because of the short VIN number)..and gave it a NY title. The previous owner knew very little about the car... Exempt? A 365BB? I wouldn't think so...But, if so, how would I find out now (again, without shooting myself in the foot) |

How did you get it titled? DOT/EPA paperwork are necessary before the car can be titled in any state. I can only assume the previous owner had title before selling it to you. He either had the paperwork or the car was exempt. |

Without shooting myself in the foot, how do I, or should I even, attempt to verify that my BB ever went though any sort of compliance? I've had the car 20 years now...don't remember ever seeing any EPA/DOT paperwork, nor seeing much evidence of compliance. Not sure I should even care...but read that supposedly this sort of stuff is important to someone.... Being that the car is now near 30 years old, it would seem that even if compliance was never done, goverment sezure would be highly unlikely anyhow. But...how would I check if compliance was done, at some point prior to my ownership. David |
