I've got the Michelin Pilot Sports on a 328 and have yet to have the car break loose -could be because the car is considerably slower than the cars being discussed, however after having my friend/mecahnic take me for an after repair drive - (110+) getting on the interstate (major S turn)! I'm a believer! I wish I could give a better estimate of the speed but as I generally do not drive in this manner - I was busy trying to find something to hold onto! :-)

From the sounds of it the non a/s (nondecaffinated?!) sounds like the more performance oriented tire. Why have a supercar and wank on the tires? I've had the P zero, the Pilot Sport and the Goodyear Fiorano on two 550s, and the Michelin is a good compromise tire, but breaks away far more easily than either the Pirelli or Goodyear. The Pirelli feels sticky, even when its not, and the Goodyear seems to track better than the Pirelli and holds better than the Michelin. I know alot of people say that every tire model behaves differently on differnt types/models of cars, but in my experience with two 550's and probably 15,000 miles on these various tire combos, i think my observations are probably valid.

Thanks, Kevin. I'm sure I'll notice a difference just because my current front tires are really worn out and I already had the front of the car break loose when I was taking a corner too fast.

i used these (both) tires on my sl600 for awhile. the only difference between the two are a few *very small* slits in the treads. For normal street driving, I didn't notice any difference - in the clear or in the rain. Might be different on a track though!

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll give the A/S a try and maybe match up the rears to the A/S when they need to be replaced too.

http://michelinman.com/mastapp/servlet/Controller/site.catalog.Results?vehicletype=templatedata%2Fcatalog%2Fvehicle_type%2Fdata%2Fsportscar&wheelsize=any&specificuse=any&vehicletypename=sports+car&wheelsizename=any&specificusename=any&flag=1

In case the link above does not work, here is what Michelin says (Sport A/S -vs- Sport):

High Performance 9 - 10 Sport Wins
Everyday handing 9 - 10 Sport Wins
Wet Traction 10 - 8 the A/S wins this one
Winter Traction 7 - 3 who drives in the snow?
Tread Life 6 - 4 big deal
Quiet Ride 5 - 5 who cares?

I like the look of the non A/S, for what it's worth. If you can't get the photos, the A/S has extra holes and ribs in the pattern.

As a rule of thumb, you should always match tires. Though, I have run different sets of front / rear without any problems. I would think as long as they are similar enough, it shouldn't be a big problem unless you do take it to the track or do some serious hard driving. Mismatching tires and treads can sometimes really upset the chassis, but I imagine the Sports and A/S are pretty similar.

Actually, they are both Pilot Sports. Just wanted to know about difference between normal Pilot Sport and Pilot Sport A/S? I don't track this car so should I even worry about it?

My tire dealer made a mistake when I ordered Sports. I got Pilot XGT ZR M+Ss real cheap when the wrong ones were delivered. They did great at the track. I have seen them on several Ferraris. Some have recommended them for older cars that had the Gatorbacks on them because the pattern is similar. They just don't have the same cool tread pattern as the sports. I wish I had made him get the Sports now. The Sports are rated as a much better tire, especially in the rain. The other tire to consider would be the Bridgstone S02 or Perelli P0. But I'm a Michelin man myself. The Tire Rack has a good website for your information and the Michelin site will provide your info too (their site just sux for sizing info).

Anyone know if there is much difference between the regular Pilot Sports and the A/S (all season)? Tire dealer tells me he can get the A/S much quicker. I need new front tires on the 550 badly. Any problems with using regular on rear and A/S on front?
