355 air bag on/off switch....
I inquired about the same air bag concern on my 355. My mechanic at Cauley Ferrari looked into it and confirmed it is possible to install a switch that would work with the cars electrical system so as not to get a fault warning every time the switch was turned on or off. I have not had it installed yet, he said it would cost about $600 to have the work done. My daughter is almost two years old and goes crazy with excitement when ever I take the car out. good luck.

Sunday my wife and I drove the 328 to a family dinner to celebrate her birthday. My brother and his 3 year old daughter arrived after us, and parked next to our car.

My brother must have explained that the 328 belonged to us, because as we were all leaving my niece grabbed my wife's hand and said "Aunt Tamara drives the _cool_ car." with a big grin on her face.

Aunt Tamara _did_ drive the cool car, too :-)

Boy am I jealous..I have a 355 and a child that would love to ride but the air bag is a big problem. Has anyone installed an on/off switch in a discret location. Would love to solve this dilemma.

This almost makes me want to have a child to share my love of cars with. I guess I better start working on finding a wife first.

Thanks Frank, Simon, jmg.

I'll check out Recaro and Sparco websites.

The issue is that simply a 'bottom booster' for child under 3 yrs is actually illegal in the UK, the rules state that the added child 'seat' has to have its own belts, so a booster doesn't qualify.

Guess if Sparco or Recaro don't deal the goods I may have to wait till she gets another 8 months onboard!

Great thread! :-) I left my new 78 308 with my dad a few months back, and my niece was visiting, so it was just Grandpa (my dad), Abby (niece), and the (brand new!) 308... Look at that little grin!

A bit old, but:

I also have arranged to give the kindergarten class a "race car class". I'm thinking i drop the car off there have them go in out, go through the safety stuff, a few comparisons and then go over the clothing etc. oh you know they're going to have fun. ;)

Thanks all, for some lovely F stories. Both my 5yr old daughter and 3yr old son, are Ferrari mad (as is to be expected with the level of indoctrination and F-related toy purchasing - sometimes for the children - in our household). However, a 355 with racing harnesses, extinguisher, brakes, etc. is hardly the practical family car, so I only get to use that for rare occasions, mostly on my own.
Clearly the solution to this problem has been the recent purchase of a 456, which the current Mrs B. likes a lot ("why didn't you buy one of these in the first place?") but the children have already begun to refer to as "Mummy's Ferrari". (Not good...)
Seats in the back, well away from any air-bags and room in the boot for a set of golf-clubs - not that I'll ever need that. Almost 190mph with four people and luggage. What could be better?
Neither car will EVER, I repeat EVER, be driven without me being present in it and I doubt I'll have either by the time my children are old enough to be insured on them (i.e. 28yrs minimum). I keep the keys in a cupboard six feet off the ground....

There is a guy here in Calgry, for the life of me I cannot remember his name, but he drives an S2000 and has a kid's racing seat. It was so incredibly cool :-) It's made by Recaro or Sparco, one of the two, and is a child seat but with bolsters to put a 355 to shame and a 5 point racing harness. I will definitely try to get more information.

What child seats do you guys use. I'm struggling to find one that will actually sit 'into' the bucket of the car seat proper. Daughter is 2 and 4 months so too young to use booster pad only.

My 9 year old daughter's school has parents let the kids out of the car as you drive through the circular parking lot (no parking!) - it's always interesting when I drop her off in the TR.

First, the boys usually go crazy (along with a handful of the parents).
Second, it's always interesting seeing if the volunteers can figure out how to open the door.

I drive my 19 month old son all the time in my Ferrari. He loves the car. In fact, I even let him take it out whenever he wants. Here he is about 6 months ago when he first drove the Ferrari.

Hans,
My wife keeps saying the same thing. He will have to work very hard to ever get the keys, and it will be well after his 16th birthday. He may get to drive it every now and again, but it will be to show the benefits to working hard and smart, and it will not be while he is in High school, unless it has to do with racing. I may let him solo race the car when I go. hahaha

David,
what did you do wrong????? hehehe. I am just kidding.

Scotty, Those big louvers in the doors make the perfect ladder
LOL

Christopher,
Use the seat belt locking clip (clip looks like this: [] and usually gold color ) and when putting the seat in, put your knee and weight into the child seat to help you get the belt as tight as possible.
If you are like me and want it even safer, you can make an attachment for the tether on top of the car seat to go through the bottom of the Ferrari headrest down the back of the Ferrari seat and attach at the floor by one, installing a eyebolt through the floor board (just did that on my Jeep Wrangler) or two,(for the purist) making an attachment point for the tether where the Ferrari seat attaches to the floor. (I hope that makes sense)

Johnny, My daughter earns her rides to school in the 348. Having the others wonder whether or not
our family is in the witness protection program
keeps them in line with my little darling.
Ferrari and parenting, what a concept. Ciao

In my 348tb I use a booster seat for my 7yr. old daughter. The shoulder harness across the chest,
and the belt across her lap secure the seat and her snuggly and securely. Naturally, with safety as the priority, we're not out to make Enzo's head turn. My daughter loves the 348, and with that in mind the 348 is a great incentive for her as a reward for doing well in school. To date, Ferrari is helping to raise my little girl in a most positive way. As you know, parents can use extra help all the time.

Both my little girls love daddy's car. I regulary give my 6 year old rides, however I am reluctant with my 3 year old. Not because I don't want to, but because I have not been able to get her car seat "securely" fastened in the seat (still some play in the belt). I love my car, however I love my girls more and their safety comes first. Any advice on proper installation of a car seat in a 348???

Frank, no switch is required for airbags in my car, as my car has no airbags! It's a 328. I put him in his car seat and strap him in. He even has his own shades in the car for sunny days.

I hope you guys with kids know what you're doing - don't blame them when they turn 16 and they expect something more than a honda accord!!! :-) i know for a fact that my car infatuation came from my parents buying me go-karts at such a young age.

Funny stuff Dan. Kids rule. When I first got my 348 I went into the house to take a leak and when I went back out to the garage, my 3 year old girl is standing in the drivers seat with a huge smile on her face. How did she get in you ask? Those big louvers in the doors make the perfect ladder! And jeez, between her and my 5 year old boy, the car had like 1000 hand prints within the first 10 minutes it was delivered. They were just all over it. A red Ferrari will do that I suppose.

Dave,
I like to think that it is heredity... I have, for as long as I can remember, been interested in nothing but cars. I would love to see him continue to develop an interest in them too. He certainly shows it now.

The joy on his face is so much more important than any scratch could ever be. So far he has not came close to scratching it. If he does then I will just chalk it up to character for the car.... like a wrinkle...

My son is 15 months old. when I come home from work he will come and great me. Eventually (some times as soon as I get there) he will pat my pants pocket to let me know he wants my car keys. (he knows my keys from my wifes keys). he then wants me to take him outside and will lead me to the Ferrari. He knows which key fits the door, and gets it in most of the time. he then tries to open the door. (I have the 308 and he knows where the handle is and how to pull it, but has not got the strength yet to open it). Once the door is open (My wife or I which ever he lead to the car does it) he climes in and then sorts through the keys ( I have about seven on the ring) until he finds the correct ignition key (most of the time) and then tries to put it in the ignition. I can say "blow the horn" and he will blow the air horn. He really gets a kick out of it and screams bloody murder when we make him get out. Just about every time we go out side he has to play in the ferrari. this of course makes me VERY happy. He has learned ALL of this by watching us just do it. We did not make it a point to show it to him. He just saw us doing it and followed suit.

Just FYI.
