Thanks Simon. I've had a real fun evening downloading new antivirus software (over a 56K line). Found a few worms, including the allhallowmas SOB. Have just finished dowloading a clean copy of MSN explorer and we're back on line. Now would not be a good time for me to be in the same room as them that wrote it. This must be as close to O/T as I've seen! |

Kevin, that "have a funny ahallowmas" is an email containing a low level worm virus. I would recommend deleting all mails with any variation of that subject, and then updating and running your virus software. As far as I know (I do some server management for 2bproductions.com here in Calgary) the virus isn't destructive, just a propogation virus that sends itself out to all your email contacts. Hope this helps. Cheers! |

Ahh. That might explain why the email's gone down on my computer at home. It was called " Have a funny Allhallowmas" and was allegedly from you. Will check it out. |

"kevin, do you drive the 456 in london traffic? and if so, how bad is it to have to fool around with the stick shift?" Yeah Ross I take the 456 in traffic. The gearbox is fine and you don't need to use it very much to be honest- there's just so much torque. Very docile @ lo rpm and it's MUCH easier to pootle around in the 456 than in the 360; I don't for an instant regret going for manual as opposed to auto. Especially not when I get a bit of open road . I'm not a fan of autos period; I like to know when the power is going to be there and want to be able to choose to miss out ratios- took me a while to find a manual 456M as most of them are autos of course. The only drawback, and it is a small one, is with the heat management in the 456; if you're stuck in traffic those fans are kicking in and out pretty much constantly. I know this is what they're supposed to do but it stresses me nonetheless. Makes me aware that I'm just a few electrical relays away from what could be an expensive rebuild... PS Ross- what's in that file you emailed me? Can't open it and it's driving me nuts! |

"It is often written that one should be able to shift through the gears without experiencing any transition movement as you are shifting(somewhat like a automatic)". Hmm, try this in a 348, not a hope in hell.

I'd agree with what the others have said. The whole assembly is lighter (and faster) than the gearchange on the 456/550. The only difficulty I have is making smooth upshifts when I'm pootling about town; the throttle response is so fast that the revs die away pretty much instantly. This can make it difficult to match the revs because the throttle is so sensitive. I'm used to it now and this was a case of working out how much pressure to leave on the throttle pedal when changing. The whole setup makes perfect sense when you're 'pressing on', since the speed with which you can make shifts is amazing. It's just bang, bang, bang through the gears and you really feel involved and working with the car. They're also super smooth. Nice. |

It has a very sensitive throttle and shifting in regular driving can be challenging. It is often written that one should be able to shift through the gears without experiencing any transition movement as you are shifting(somewhat like a automatic). Well I have yet to reach that point and doubt if I ever will. I am not sure how many people would be able to shift that well. |

The 6-spd is pretty smooth my only issue was that the pedal layout is slightly different than the p-car's layout that I am so used to so I needed a bit of get used to to get the heel&toe going. It's really good on the track although I didn't push it hard (only 3-month old car) and my driving skill needs improvement it felt solid. Didn't rev it past 8.2K RPM ... but loved that engine sound. |

It is terrific. Smooth, no waiting for oil to warm up to get into 2nd. Would be great if they made a short shifter for this car. The gated shifters have long throws. I test drove the F-1 before I got the 6 speed, and I much prefer the 6. |

It is the best 6 spd gearbox in a Ferrari that I have driven. It is a much smoother shifter than on my 355-doesn't require any warm up to be fluid and I still love the "clunk" of the gated box. |

I'm interested to hear the driving impressions of a manual non-F1 360. Can some 360 owners out there enlighten me..... |
