That was an 'offer' (Calamari/Perillo - Contracts 3rd.)probably not valid offer - aimed at too broad an audience...I will go back to my tin cup on the corner

Mark:

Read the "Prossor" book, and maybe you can earn enough for the 512BB.

Hans, maybe they thought they could get it cheap seeing as it only: "...needs a tune-up"

So that's what you look like. Always neat to put a face to the name...

The weird thing is how few people actually read the sign! I kept getting questions like "How much do you want for it?"

Arthur: Are you sure the case was about 'torts'? I sounds like Mr. Eccles thought Mrs. Samn was a 'tart'.

When I was in law school in the mid 60s, we took a class called Torts. French for private wrongs, etc. There was a book called Prosser on Torts. The book consisted of cases that were interesting that set forth certain examples.

One of the cases was called Samn v. Eccles (an Oregon case for those of you who wish to look it up) In that case, Mr. Eccles, a neighbor of Mrs. Samn would go over to her house daily, and proposition her. She refused. He got more and more aggressive and started showing her what she was missing. She sued for intentional inflectional of mental distress.

The court said: There is no harm in asking. And then went on to rule that he'd gone beyond that and granted her judgement.

So if Randy wants money to get a Ferrari, there is no harm in asking. That case stuck with me for over 48 years.

down time explaination: I've since changed servers, and its on the same server as www.s2ki.com but email issues haven't been resolved, so that's the one reason why its not back up.

its all in the IDEA, and if you chuckle at the idea, then that's all that matters. if you chuckled so much that you donated a dollar or sent me an email - then that makes my day.

there's lots of rip off sites out there, buymea... porche, lambo, lamborghini, dreamhouse, island, etc etc. the list goes on and on, and occassionally I get an email saying "thanks for the idea!"

the income/donations are so small that reporting it to the IRS would be a mute point - at least from what I've read. a dollar here, a dollar there, five bucks there, when I haven't generated $1K yet, I don't think they would be interested. however, they were very interested in lots of donations that were provided to unemployed Odd Todd - www.oddtodd.com

hans - I dig the street sign, VERY funny! =D

as far as current ventures, I have a company that I run out of my own place, reselling lots of parts for a few select cars to various accessories. its at importdevelopment.net - IDi imports a lot of parts from overseas, we develop a few parts, and work as a legitimate reseller for the rest.

the majority of my customers are s2000 and rsx owners, and a few random customers from this site. I prefer to know what I'm selling and thus try things out at the track during the handful of times I visit the track each year.

mgracing.com is owned and operated by Giampiero Marietti and on occassion we do work together with particular parts. graphyte - I just point that to Import Development's site.

thanks for the comments: good, bad and indifferent. in the end, its a fun project for me to at least start a fund, which I do have a savings account set aside for all the donations that do come in.

one last note - 'schatten' was just a nick I came up with ages ago on the old BBS's/IRC #'s during the college years, and its since stuck. my real name, which can be found on a whois lookup, is Randy Whitten.

Mitchell and Tommy,
It hurts no one, and that is not my point. My point is Mitchell's assertion that he "respected the idea" WTF is respectable about the foolish concept of asking for money (and idiots giving)for a Ferrari? Not only is is not respectable it is in fact contemptible. Randy knows it too, and if he were ever to get his Ferrari through this means he'll be smiling in his 355 thinking "look what those dumb numb-nuts just bought me..." :-)

BTW my new website can be found at:
www.buymeagiantgiraffe&giraffechowtofeedit.com

I've always wanted one, but cannot afford it. Next I will start:
www.buymeatallfence&manuretruck.com

Hey Mitchell, it's all in good fun....

Well, he IS working hard, see Rob's post. I respect the idea of the web site in that, people can help other people of their free will. You don't have to give him anything. Why complaine about it?

Mitchell, I completely disagree, what in this "idea" is to be respected? "I cannot work or earn the money myself, so please give me money so I can have my dream?" Fortunately, this is hardly the ethic most people live by.

I am not a rich guy, but by conservative investing, working hard, saving plenty, and not taking on any debt (other than a mortgage for a house) I was able to buy a 328 and pay cash for it. Yeah, I'm no spring chicken at almost 41 yo, but I earned it myself, no handouts. I'm certain the same story goes for most everyone else on this list.

It's frequent user Randy Shatten's site. I don't think he needs it anymore because his business selling auto stuff to FerrariChat.com users and the S2000 folks is doing well. I met him at MSR, he's a nice guy.

He couldn't ever get enough money to buy a Ferrari, so he invested the cash in Enron. He then started a new site:

It looks like whomever runs http://www.buymeaferrari.com/ took the site down. I always respected the idea, I wonder what happened.
