http://www.italiancarparts.com/ This place is a little pricey on most things, but for shop manuals they seem to be alright. I got mine here and other people from FC have got them also, they're real good. |

Yes I do mean differential oil. I have the owners manuals but not the shop manuals. I should probably go ahead and purchase a translated shop manual. I understand Angelo Wallace has translated this to English. I think what I am going to do this weekend is drain the differential fluid from both compartments, remove the fill plug from the gear box and try filling through the upper point and see in fact if they do communicate. However easier said than done. Everytime I try something like this I always wind up with the "bolt from hell" that will not give. I give it a 50/50 shot if it works this way. The setup looks a little different than a 308's but Ferrari tends to do things the same way. Thanks for responding. Sorry I placed this post in the wrong section. My first time on this board. Drew |

I just changed my 308 gear box fluid (Mobile 1 straight from the bottle) and used the same method of filling from the top fill plug and leaving open the side diff. fill plug. Worked fine. I just also saw a BB512 at Limerock and based on looking at the gearbox it looks like it will fill the same way as a 308. Steve |

I haven't the foggiest about the 512BB, but when you're saying clutch oil I'm taking it you mean differential oil. On the 308 gearbox and limited slip diff do indeed share the same oil. Do you have the books for your car? When I changed my gear/diff oil I used the book to see where the filler holes for the two of them are and then like you said used the higher one (gearbox if I remember correctly) to fill until it came out the lower one. |

I purchased a carbed Boxer about a year ago and am really enjoying it. Its time to change the transmission fluids. I have 3 questions. 1)Does anybody know if the clutch oil reservoir communicates with the gear oil reservoir? For instance, I know that when I've done this on 308's before you could just use the clutch fill point and let it run out the gear fill point after draining all the fluids. This has the advantage of getting the exact amount of fluid in the clutch reservoir versus trying to measure out approximately 1/4 quart. 2)I've had problems before removing the gearoil fill and drain plug. I know the fluids have to be hot to get the best drain but is it easier to loosen these hot or cold? Any tips for not rounding off the bolts. I cannot get a 22mm socket on the fill plug (cross member in the way)and will probably use a 22mm spanner. 3) Does anyone know the size of the two drain points on the gearoil box. They look to be approximately 30mm. I know some of this sound pretty basic to you guys but I certainly would appreciate any help. |
