Found a guy in Spokane who did a good job cutting some keys from blanks that he had. Took two tries to get the gas cap key right but the whole thing only cost me twelve dollars. In talking keys with him I mentioned that the factory key blanks were very costly and made of steel which meant that a lot of key cutters would not cut them because they could ruin the cutting machine. He agreed but also pointed out that the actual lock innards were likely made of brass and that using a steel key would wear out the lock but not the key. A brass key he said would not wear out the lock. |
