Seems like you could at least go with 245/45's on the rear, if not to a 275 on an 8" rim - yea, shouldn't be a problem. I've squeezed them on 7.5" rims before. But that doesnt' mean you should do it by any means. The S03's are good, but they are the compromise for wet/dry tires. It all depends on cost, what you are going to do with them, and how many miles you expect to get out of them. The SP8000's are a great tire, but I would consider them a moderate performance tire - maily aimed at wet performance. Yoko's are "ok", unless you go for something a bit sticky and grippy for autox/track like the A032R's. Of course, your milage will suffer dramatically... but they sure are fun! =D Well, a half-track tire and half street tire, I actually run the Toyo RA1's daily. They don't last, but they are a blast to drive. |

Arie, Assuming you have the standard 7" front and 8" rear, the stock sizes are 205/55 front and 225/50 rear. Personally, I would not go to wider treads unless you go to 17" and wider wheels. I use S03's on my 328 and formerly on my 308 QV. I like them a lot and Tire Rack's testing shows they are the best performers, especially on wet roads. I doubt that the performance difference between Michelin Pilots or Yokohamas is really noticeable, but the Bridegstones are cheaper than Michelins. I have Pilots on my M3 and have no complaints. However, my previous experinece with Dunlops was disappointing. Tire Rack's comparison tests show a substantial drop off in handling compared to the Bridgestones, Michelins and Yokohamas which confirmed my experience. Check out their website, there is a wealth of info there, all for free!

I have the same tire size as Dave only with Dunlop 8000's. These are one step below the "ultra high performance" tires and after reading extensive feedback from various owners of many different brands of tires, settled on the Dunlops. I am very happy with them. I would have went with the ultra h.p. tires such as the S03's or Pilot Sports but many people said that you sacrifice some ride quality because of the stiffer sidewalls. How often do you drive a 308 to it's limit anyway? |

225-50-16 front 245-45-16 rears. The two tires most often recommended are Michelen Pilot Sports or Bridgestone SO3's. Either way, expensive! But they are considered the best. I will get a set next summer. I used Bridgestone RE730's and noticed they got loud after 7 or 8,000 miles. They handled well though, wet or dry. I hear they new version is now quieter. Check on www.tirerack.com and check the user reviews for the latest.
