$6500 will not be the normal price of the parts
once these parts have been sold. These parts are
Jim Carpenters, and have been cleaned up to make look nice, ie. take out waves in the fiberglass & fit together properly. Once these parts have been sold, the prices for the GTO conversion parts will be about the same as Italian autos. I will probably "throw" in a few extras for free and also offer custom built parts for some peoples "special" needs. ie. race car guys who want some very nice looking parts that are very light weight. Just though I'd let you know.

Joseph-I don't have any conversion pics, however Butch at www.italiandesign.com might have some. When I purchased mine, I paid just over $9k for the pieces. If interested, Nick M (below) has the conversion components for a little over $6k and he includes several items that the other companies don't (real SF shields, hood piece, etc.)

Thanks Chris
I have the GTO parts for sale on the FerrariAdds.com
up above. Check them out. I have a bunch more photos I can email (much larger also). I am having a friend set up a nice website soon with a ton of info. on the 288 GTO; photos, links, and the 288 GTO re-body parts I will sell. We have been working with carbonfiber & fiberglass fabrication for over 14 years and make some of the best quality parts you can buy. Also key to the quality of our parts is how "straight" the fiberglass is, no wavy-ness! This would be KEY if you were to build a track car and want the car to look nice & have light weight parts. Wavy parts mean lots of body work and lots of extra weight. We make the parts with
BRIGHT RED gelcoat that allows you to see how nice and straight all the parts are. OK.....enough of my sales pitch. PS: A couple years ago we made a pair of new 288 GTO mirror molds for Italian Auto to replace thier older ones and I also found that Butch is a nice guy.

Does anyone here have any pics of a 288 conversion? And what does it cost for the body parts? Mojo

I purchased 288 GTO body components from Butch a few years back for a `79 308 I had. I'm not an expert by no means, but the completed car he had in his shop when I went down there was very well built (and coincidentally had a 348 engine and transaxle). Butch is a great guy and one of the select few that I trust.

You might want to find out if this was originally built by Norwood, because I don't believe Italian Design & Racing ever stretched any of their conversions due to liability issues.

As far as your last question is concerned, I would think that should be able to complete the car for the 35k you have allotted, however you may want to direct that question to some of the more experienced posters on the board.

Lastly, one of our fellow members (Nick M) manufactures 288 GTO style body components for the conversion. I have seen some of the work he has done and it is truly top notch.

Good luck in your endeavor...keep us posted.

I've met "Butch" Hopper a couple of times and thought the guy was pretty straight forward and on the up and up. I also talked to him about those 2 GTO rebodies he has/had (81 & 85)...if I remember right he got the two cars in a trade for another car he had and thus he didn't do the conversions on those cars (and I don't think they are stretched either) anyway he makes the body work for conversions but if I remember corectly he didn't do them on the two he has now...but obviously you can ask him that... I'm just working from a conversation I had with him over a year ago... yeah I think he's had those cars for a while...anyway I think he's a good guy and wish you luck.

I am looking at buying an '85 308/288 from Italian Auto in Arizona. The body is done and painted, but the car lacks driveline and interior.

Question one; Are the cars from this shop done to a high quality standard? Anyone have any experience with this organization?

Question two; Since the wheelbase is streched for the original's longitudinal engine mounting, would a 348t driveline be a good choice for this project mongrel?I like the extra displacemnt. If so, I would plan on a Norwood twin-turbo engine package too.

Final question; After the purchase of the car, I would have a budget of $35K for the purchase, rebuilding and installation of the engine/transaxle, the interior, wheels/tires, and all the other little things it is bound to need. Will this be enough to finish the car properly?

Thanks

Ted
