thats too bad David, maybe u should move to the NE or SE :)
we get tons of track time in the NE at Watkins Glen, Pocono, Lime Rock, Summit Point, even Mid Ohio. The FCA & FOC ( which is new to the NE ) rent each track at least twice a year + I run with a few other clubs also :)

Which is your interest - the people or the cars?

If your interest is people (socially oriented activities), FCA is good because it has more members and more happenings. If your interest is cars (track days, workshops, tech info, road trips), I would say forget either. I've been an on again - off again member of both and have been summarily disappointed by how little of the attention is focused on the cars. I really believe these are more 'social clubs' than car clubs. And that's fine if that's what you want.

I can't speak for other regions, but the Northwest Region (where I used to belong) has two quality tracks (SIR and PIR, Seattle and Portland), and still the club barely arranged one track day a year. In fact many of us were so unsatisfied with the club's focus, that we dissociated ourselves, established our own 'fraternity', and got together for drives and bull sessions (usually in someone's garage and under a car).

We used to get track time by conning the other local clubs (Porsche, BMW, Audi, Lotus, Alfa, Corvette and even the SCCA) into letting us tag along with them.

As for the newsletters, mags, tech bulletins, etc.; If you own a Ferrari, you already get Rosso - add a subscription to Forza, and you've got it covered.

the FCA is far larger & has a lot more coverage of the US. The FOC was mostly a CA club although recently they have opened a few new chapters. I suggest u visit the FOC website & see if they have a branch in your hood, otherwise there would seem to be little point of joining a club that has no activities where u live.
In the past the FOC has had a grudge against the FCA, I dont know why, I'm just here for the track time :)

FOC is the oldest Ferrari club in the USA and it is based in California. I am still a member of both clubs, and find that FOC seems more for socializing and displaying. Most members are in California. FCA seems to have more for us "poor" people who do a little more DIY work on our cars, while still offering social and display activities. FCA is larger and cheaper.

On the other hand, FOC has several Ferrari shops around the country that do special things for members in different regions, like open shop days. Members drive their cars in and the shop helps with DIY maintenance, contradicting what I said above.

Both clubs have track days. I plan on staying with FCA, since the newsletter does have a tech questions area, and I go to Indy with them. Besides, I don't live in California, and my FOC region is Chicago, a good 8 hour drive away... I think there are 10 FOC members in a 200 mile radius of my home.

$48 of your $80 goes directly to your quarterly magazine Prancing Horse. So $32 goes towards your actual dues for club membership, reasonable for a club like this. The magazine therefore is $12 an issue, pretty pricey, but then again I pay the same for another magazine (Auto Italia) on a bimonthly schedule!

Isn't the Ferrari Owner's Club UK based? Not too practical for us here across the pond.

To be honest, the Ferrari Club of America when compared to other auto clubs is pathetic. I am a Member of the Corvair Society of America and we receive a monthly color magazine that is better quality and more informative than the Ferrari Quarterly publication. Each month the Ferrari club sends out a cheap pamphlet. The Ferrari club is about $80.00 per year and the Corvair club is $35.00. It's bad when a Corvair club is better than a Ferrari club at less than half the price. The Corvair club also has a better web site.Duh!

Good question, neither of them are that expensive so I would lean towards both. It seems that FCA has more members and has more going on. I like anything where Ferrari people get together.

Which is better, the Ferrari Owner's Club or the Ferrari Club of America?

I'm a member of the latter, and am curious to know if I should join the other as well.

Thanks,
Bret
