agree with wspeer. will throw in an additional bit of anecdotal evidence. i have been looking to buy a 456 for the last 6 months. for a variety of reasons i have not been able to pull the trigger yet. but within that period i have had the same cars offered to me at ever decreasing prices. one in particular (456mgta, low mileage, perfect records, etc) started at E120k, and i could probably get it now around E95k, which just makes me want to wait till year end and try for E85k....but that is a relatively cold newer model, which will be replaced in the near future so this is an extreme example. |

i think the current production cars have slipped only a little as demand is still high, after all- a 1999 360 modena is still selling for $160k, which is still above the original sticker price. the cars that have recently left production have slipped more. i imagine that the 355 and 550's will stabalize shortly, as they are supported by the prices of their predecessors. the older cars (ie- 348, 328, 308, 512 tr, tr, and boxers) are fairly stable, if not slightly less than they were before fall of last year. the much older cars (ie- pre 1975) are as stable as they can be. if anything, these cars are rising slightly in value- depending on the model in question. i think the softness in the stockmarket has helped and hurt the ferrari market. i think the softness has truely hurt the "newer" ferrari buyer who is primarily interested in the newer cars. for the most part, these buyers enjoy the cars as they have expendable income. likewise, it has helped the "older" ferrari buyer who is interested in the cars that he truely wants and not what he sees as investments, or better yet, he may not live long enough to spend what he has, so why not go ahead and enjoy the dream now. i think it is for this reason you see, the holy grail cars (gto's, tr's, mondials, tdf, etc.) continue to fetch higher dollar amounts each time they are auctioned. it is my opinion that the older cars will continue to hold their values while the newer ones depreciate on a constanat basis until they too become older, or at least old enough to be cheaper than what is new. |

IMO, the 550s seem to be stabilizing a bit. at least the freefall from the high 100s to 150 has definitely slowed. you rarely are seeing people now trying to get 189 for 550s - most listings are down to the 150s and 140s. some high mileage cars are getting listed even in the 130s and 120s. 355 prices seem to be also declining, but much more slowly than they did during the first 6-8 months of the year. my opinion is that at some point in the past couple of months the people who buy stupid cars like these have come to believe that the markets are stabilizing so prices are stabilizing. if we see the markets take another dive, i think these price points are rickety and will start their downward trend again in earnest. ultra-uncommon vehicles like 360 spiders and 550 barchettas and 575Ms will continue to be stable, since the supply hasn't even gotten out of the "arbitrary money" demand segment. just my two pennies. doody! |

Still a downward trend,I believe. Not extreme however as long as lists continue to have lengthy waits.(applies to 360 modena and spider)-don't know the story with 575's.however,550's continue to fall. |

for all of you in the know, do you see prices on the newer ferraris stabilizing or is there still a downward trend? |
