The blaupunbkt unit does have wheel sensors for exactly what you say about tunnels ect. I also hear the Alpine is top notch, but was trying to get one with a standard DIN opening rather than a seperate screen. THe Blaupunkt 149/150, Harman traffic Pro, and Clarion Auto PC are Din units. But, maybe I can find a custom place to put the screen. I just got a new SUV, but opted to not get navigation , so am not TOO famailiar with it. I was curious as to how it works in "real-life" and if it's just annoying ect. I am decent with maps, but thought it would be a nice thing to have if they are of good design
thanks!

I've heard that the system by Alpine is top-notch. It's DVD based so there is no having to switch CD's when you cross each CDs "zone". You could drive from Maine to California on the same disc.

Just a reminder: many of us are used to the nice in dash GPS system that comes with vehicles (i.e., Lexus, MB, BMW, etc...) It seems whenever we turn on the engine, the GPS system is always accurate and navigational information is always available even when traveling in the tunnel. It turns out that these factory GPS units rely not only on the GPS antenna for signals, but also on the vehicle's steering and speedometer systems. That's the reason why when you're in the tunnel, the GPS can still accurately track your path and speed.

If you get an aftermarket GPS system please be aware that the GPS system will not perform like the factory install GPS systems. As a result, you will find that sometimes the satellite signals are lost and no navigation information would be available...especially in areas surrounded by dense tall office buildings.

I've got the Alpine unit with the Motorized Video screen in my 996TT. It works fine.

At this point I just use a small GPS unit,
and have no real experience with the full blown navagation units...
Wish I could help.

I am considering the Blaupunkt 149 in-dash unit.
Can be mounted 90 degrees

I am looking for opinions on navigation systems if any of you use them
