Well, I went to a Ferrari dealer to test drive a beautiful 308 they have on consignment. On paper, it met my very strict criteria, so needless to say, I was excited to drive it. The vehicle recently went a pretty thorough service by a well-known mechanic, everything aspect of the service performed was wriiten in detail and well documented. According to the current owner, the car was running top notch when he brought it in to the dealer. The car did not sound well at start-up and throughout the test drive became very lethargic, as if it was running on one bank of cylinders. I knew the car should be returned asap. We brought the car back into the showroom. The car still has its original thermal reactor exhaust system. The exhaust began smoking in the showroom. Actually, the inside of the exhaust was bright orange and the outside housing was red hot. Seems as though raw fuel was being dumped into the exhaust and ignited the insides. We pushed the car back outside to cool down. Typical fire scenario in these carbed cars (with original exhaust). I do not even want to think about what would have happened had the car been driven a little further!
