I have Gumball Rally playing on video right now when I saw this thread. When the 308 is back together I would really like to take a nice trip with it. I'm thinking of hitting up Montreal (women, drinking, and oh, that grand prix thing) and then maybe indianapolis next year. As far as rooming at Indy, I'm not picky so I don't think I'll have too much trouble. Thoughts of opening scenes of "Le Mans" with everyone sleeping in tents come to mind, but could I fit a tent in the 308... |

I bought it too. Look in the back at the lists of entries and times. Several 308's ran very well. Their times were better then the majority over the entire history of the event. |

Yep, a great read. I was trying to convince my wife that we should get in the car and try to see how we could do-and vacation at the end of the run. She didn't show much enthusiasm. It reminds me of the times that I've made runs from Cincinnati to Columbus. I always make sure to get a fresh looking pig heart (we have access to these in the lab), pack it in dry ice and put a transplant sticker on the Styrofoam chest. If I get stopped, I just show them the box; say "I've got a heart that I'm taking up to Columbus (no lie, just not the whole truth). It's saved my butt a couple of times.

I was unaware of the publication of this book. Saw it in my local mega-bookstore yesterday, and haven't been able to put it down. Recounts each of the Cannonball Races, lots of fun pictures, great anecdotes from the participants; almost makes you long for the '70s. Highly recommended. |
