I went to see the 575 in the flesh finally, and decided it's definetly a go. Long wait list, but the car seems like a mild improvement over what was already a brilliant car. The front end, while goofy in pictures, is actually much cleaner in person than the 550. The interior is more modern (don't get me wrong, this is not one of those cars you keep for life - and so newer better things will come along), and slightly different all around. 6 speed, no doubt. F1, while cool, really serves no purpose (imo), outside of the track. It just seems wrong on this car. Unfortunately it was raining, and so I couldn't get a test drive in (they had a silver over black 6 speed and a red/tan F1). After covering all of the bsaes, I think this car will be a solid daily workhorse. Refined enough for everyday driving, and subtle too (hello pozzi blue). Of course, a test drive is still due, but if it's anything like the 550, it should be fine. --Dan |

Sooo true... LOL - they'll plug a computer in and it'll take all of 5 seconds to upload the new suspension parameters. What this means is that the car is ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL.... Vince you're a lucky man... It really must now be a VERY VERY fast machine. I'd love to see it up against a 360M in a straight line. |

WAIT - THE PLOT THICKENS...... Well I have a bit more info - all this mega-transforming HANDLING PACK stuff is actually apparently nonsense.... A salesman at a rather well known Ferrari dealer just told me (within the last hour) that the latest batch of 575M don't have any kind of handling pack AT ALL. They are factory standard - as factory standard as the first batch of 575M..... The only things that have been changed is that the suspension managament system have been reprogrammed to stiffen and sharpen the car up....the software and electronics have been changed... The early cars had incorrect (read: early ) settings.. it has nothing to do with the FHP... so once again the stock Maranello is one of the best cars in the world - yes even without FHP. I was told to expect a mini relauch of the 575.. (minus FHP).... what the hell is going on??? |

i would say, regardless of how you drive, get the fhp; that way re-sale won't be affected, because you know that with as much bad press as the 575 without the fhp has gotten that it will then become one of those standard questions asked at a later stage....... |

And yesterdays test of the 575M VS Aston Vanquish on UK TV motoring magazine "Top Gear" had the testers gushing in a similar fashion - "the 575M is beautiful" - "perfect" - it was even being co-tested by ex-F1 World Champ Damon Hill.... They LOVED the 575M.... Jeremy Clarkson said that Ferrari UK had provided a 575M equipped with a Fiorano Handling Pack... So for those who are REALLY sporty drivers (read: "for those who care") get the FHP for your 575. If you're not going to be driving like Schumacher EVERYWHERE, then forget it.

Well guys - now HERE is a contradiction... the 575M Maranello with the Fiorano Handling Pack has just come second (to the Pagani Zonda C12 S) in Car magazines Performance Car of the Year award..... Can these F**KING journalists make up their minds.... I CONTINUE to wander about the importance of the Fiorano Handling Pack to this car... |

I have been looking at a Boxer to buy myself. I would like a late 1984 512BBi in silver or blue. I have located several in red and black priced from $50k to $60k. I am still looking for my perferred color though. |

Tino - I have always liked Boxers - that's why I was test driving them. I was trying to talk myself into buying one ! |

Right on Vince ! I totally agree, the 575M is light years ahead of the TR's and BB's (I've lived with a BB for 21 years), no compatrison. I also think the 575M would be much "nicer" to live with than a 360. BTW, there was a production US version Enzo at the Sema show (Bridgestone booth) this week. Worth the trip just by itself. |

Thanks for the explanation Viken. IMHO, the 360 may be more tossable, but the 575M is much more agile than the the TR that I've owned or Boxers that I've driven. The torque / hp of the 575M can generate a different kind of fun. |

After a good and hard test drive, my opinion of the 575M F1 is: Great motor, really torquey and civil. Great sounds but needs a Tubi <g>. F1 trans better (but not by much) than later version 360's. Slow speed upshifts were bad on the car I drove but after owning an F1 car for two years, I think the F1 transmission can change/adapt quite a lot during its life. Chassis still feels heavy despite good steering. I thought braking was good despite hearing of the contrary. Fun factor is nowhere near a 360, and that's IMHO ! |

Manu - it appeared they wished the suspension was stiffer even in it's non-sport mode. They did say the normal mode had excellent ride quality. "In sport mode, sharp pavement breaks send a quick thwack through the body, but large impacts are absorbed without drama" |

Should be better than the F1 in the 355 and 360. After all, it's the next generation system. I'm sure the F1 system in the 360 successor will better than the one in the 575M. |

F1 for the F575, have heard that it is lightyears ahead of the 355 and 360. What an experience F1 w/ a V12... drool. |

Their Verdict: "You say you want one of the world's fastest cars, but without the inconveniences of a Ferrari? This is it." Some of their new traffic laws that apply to the 575M -- "Aggravated Assault with a V-12" "Downshift with Intent to Serenade" They listed top speed at 200mph. They and some other mags quote 508bhp when I thought it was 515bhp according to the Ferrari Owner's website. |
