Allen: I'd get the book, the original Ferrari V8. It has a very good section on the 348, with a lot of detail. Also sometime last year Forza did a pretty complete buyer's guide. I'd also try that. I've had a 90 and a 94. The later cars (94s) have 12 more hp and slightly different rear suspension. From about 90 on the ECU was upgraded, from 2.5 to 2.7 DON'T GET THE EARILER ONE unless you like to hitchike. You can upgrade the earlier models with spacers to simulate the wider rear suspension, and if you like to drive at the limit, it does make a difference. If you get a late model, you can almost use them for a daily driver. |

The main upgrades, as I recall, were changing the alternator from Delco 2.5 to Nippondenso 2.7 (said to have solved a lot of irritating electronic problems) and from a double disk clutch to a single disk clutch. The other upgrades were minor until 1994 - extra 20 bhp for GTB/GTS/Spider. Cars are reliable but tricky on the limit. |

Allan, When I was shopping for mine, my mechanic wouldn't let me buying anything older than a 91 and a half. Problem was, I couldn't get him to define the half point. Unless the 89 or 90 has had the recalls and updates done, I would skip them and go 91 or newer. The 92 should have all the reliabiltiy updates, just not the performance ones. With todays market, the 92-94 shouldn't carry much premium over the older cars. There's just not too many of them, so you have to be patient. |

Ive also found a really nice 89 348, with miles in the teens. Are these cars really ones to stay away from? |

Of all the Ferraris ive owned the best running ones had 40-50,000 miles on them. This holds true of all exotics ive owned. |

But there are other views on low miles Allan, some of us wouldn't take anything with high! High mile maintenance costs are generally far greater than problems that arise with low miles vehicles, and thats before you add into the equation putting v'rough interiors (common in 348 in my experience of looking at many) right again |

Allan, I use mine as a daily. 17K Miles in 2 1/5 years plus all the others I drive in the dealership. More than qualified as a daily driver. No worries here. One thing I can rely on is that the car starts in the morning and will take me from and to home. The upgrade on the ECU and suspension was made in 1990, early with serial # 866XX and will not affect your 1992. In mid 1993 there was another upgrade to the GTS, GTB and Spider version. Higher HP, due to a muffler change and suspension upgrade again, this is why the late model 348s look better from the rear than the earlier ones. Easy fix for the older ones in wheel spacers. Did mine with Koenig, about $600 and brings the optic out great and better on the track as well. I would have some concerns with the 11000 Miles. Make sure the car has a full engine out service done with belt and pullies changed recently. This car should already have the 30K service, no excuses. I hope you also buy it at a good number. Buying a low miles car at a premium to use it and drive it is not the right thing to do. You will likely have to spend some extra $$$ to have a good reliable daily because this one has been sitting a long time and pay the premium for low miles? What for? Feel free to call me if you want to get some more infos: 305-867-7676 Glad to help.

I believe this topic has come up a lot in previous posts. Search the archive and you should find a bunch in info. My understanding is that the later ts's are much better than the eariler ones. There were original problems with the ECU's and I know that there are upgrades for this, but the problems might have been cured by 1992. And as with any Ferrari buy the latest model you can and make sure it has had the appropriate service, and get it checked out! Sounds like a nice one, but really low miles scare some people... Ferrari's are made to be driven and problems arise when they sit. |

The early 348ts' had a recall on the roof seals. I remember a number of them at the local dealer with roof leaks. I believe the recall fixed the problem. To make it faster, perhaps some of the 348 Challenge parts might help. |

I would have to refer you to Forza Magazine, 348 Buyer's Guide, issue #30, June 2001. It's a must. If you are interested, I can photo copy and fax it to you. -noel |

I am looking at picking up a 348ts, and would like to know what to look for, and also what can i do to make it faster. How are they as daily drivers, as this is what id use it for? Are they reliable? This is a 92, red/tan, 11,000 miles, all sevice records, one owner car. It has really nice 18 inch after market wheels and the originals. |
