Good call. I was thinking about just like the 308, 328, 348, etc not the special cars. But that's true that both the 288 and F40 came out before with this set up. I'm glad you said it because I had almost forgot about the 288s set up.

Most car companies just continuely evolve the same blocks (GM, Ford, BMW, Mercedes, all of them really). Isn't the 348 the first 3 series with that front to back engine mounting like the 355 and 360 have?

Remember tho Bret - all 3 series share the same block, 308, 328, 348, 355 and the 360 are all the same block, different crankshafts, different bores, different heads, different injection & intake/exhaust systems, engine/fuel management, even some piston work, etc. etc. etc. but the same basic block (and design). Enzo designed engines and engines ONLY. If it works then stick with it (25+ years and counting).

The 348 is definitely faster, hands down. For Ferrari to come out with an entirely new car and have it be slower would kill their sales and make a lot of annoyed rich people that had ordered them. It's pushing like 20-30 more horsepower and I don't think it's really heavier. The 348 was much more of a F1 based car than the previous models.

Does anyone know the true performance figures for the 348? Some British magazines suggest that the 328 GTS/GTB has a 0-60 time of 5.5 secs but the 348 tb/ts (290 bhp) has 5.9 secs with only the 348 gtb/gts (320bhp) being faster at 5.3secs. Again the 30-70 and 50-70 figures for the 328 GTB/GTS seem to be better. Is this true?

The top speed of the 348 however, has consistently been shown as 163 miles or 261 kms.

Does anyone have information to the contrary?
