Has anyone ever seen an F40 in Chicago? I was there a few months back on a business trip, on my way back to the airport just outside the city and out of know where...I could here it. We all know that sound, don't we? Sure enough coming up in my rear view out of know where a bona fide F40...couldn't believe my eyes, followed that guy for miles. Outstanding car, it may have been the same car from the video someone else posted. I couldn't quite make out the plates in the video, but the one I a saw had Illinois plates "MY F40". I'll remember that day for a very long time... |

Not many people can say they built a car from scratch. I think it's a fine tribute to the F40. I think it will be more appropriate to have its own badges though. |

I think the car looks great! So what if it's not a "real" F40. It's still very cool, and after looking at the website, it looks like the amount of effort and craftsmanship that went into it are amazing. And I bet it would leave a 355 for dead... |

The car does not look right. corners are too rounded. besides, I hate any car that imitates the real thing. I already get so sick of people asking if its a kit car. kit cars die! |

Wow, read your site, that looks like a really cool project... Any insight onto how much that is going to cost for you? Sorry if you don't want to answer, just curious. From the looks of it a real F40 wouldn't be too far off! This thing is definitely going to be a real track beast. |

Some of the photos that have been uploaded are progress shots that have some interesting reflections that do not do the car justice. Here are a couple taken last week that you may be interested in. I built a copy of the F40 because I have always loved the shape, and like many could not afford to buy a real one, apart from the fact that there is only one in this county (New Zealand). It is also difficult to register left hand drive as we have right hand drive vehicles here. Like most of these projects, what we started out to do was with a much smaller budget than what we ended up spending, but like Jay says, it is a lot easier to spend a little at a time until the job is finished. The badges are coming off as soon as I get the new ones from the badge maker. Steve

Peter & Jay.. I don't know what the deal is with the F40 in Calgary. It's not an 1987 model, I think he mentioned it was one of the last years they made the car (1992 perhaps?). All I can say for sure is that the car is physically in Calgary, it's real, and I have personally seen it driving down McCleod Trail with about 10 other Ferraris early one Sunday morning. The owner also owns that gold Diablo 6.0 in the picutures, a red diablo, an S600 and a 1997 993 twin turbo. So that should lend some credence as to his ability to purchase expensive cars like an F40. Let me know when you are coming Peter, I'll take you to all the car hotspots so we can go car spotting.

it looks like as if a rock smashed a regular F40 . Why not design something of his own creation ? would have made an awesome track day car .And very exclusive . |

Roel, I agree! After all not many of us can afford to drop a mill on a LM F40 but I bet all of us could slowly pay for this to be made. I like it! And at least it is not a Fiero. I don't even mind the badging. |

I'm suprised no-one has commented on the whole project described on www.f40.co.nz yet. When I first saw this.. I thought..Ughhh F40 kitcar.. No thnx. But the site is actually really interesting. The guy is making this his track car. He dropped in a completely rebuilt lexus 4liter V8, twinturbo-charged. Producing an impressive 800bhp @ 7000rpm. His aim was to make the car weigh 1050kg. Well, even though it's a kitcar, I would love to see how this thing performs on the track. Not too shabby, i suppose. Still, he should remove those Ferrari badges at once, and never try to make it pass for a real Ferrari. It seems though, that the guy is very dedicated and has put a lot of effort in producing this. He must be a big fan of the Ferrari F40 I'd say. Also, I wonder how much this project has cost him, should be a pretty $. Well, I remain to have some mixed feelings about this car, its a kitcar, a fake, trying to be something it's not. But on the other hand, what's not to like about a 1050kg, 800bhp track car. Should be an awful lot of fun. More power to him i'd say. -Roel |

The gold on the rims is just a reflection of the overhead lights. They are Speedline 17" three piece rims in 17 x 9 and 17 x 13 sizes, with the accurate centers as per the genuine F40. I did not really like the racing rims as per the Calgary car, but still wanted the Le Mans style double rear wing, radiator duct, quad fixed headlights and front splitter. - It's my car |

Oh no, not the "I saw an F40 in Canada" thread again, LOL... Seriously, a 1987 F40 is legal to bring into Canada, no mods needed as it is - like Jay said - over 15 years old. I still think there's something fishy about that Calgary car. Sorry I didn't make this past summer James. But the next time I'm there, I gotta check it out... |

I love the original steamrollers on the F40, new style rims don't match the era of the car IMO. But to each his own. I don't think it can easily be seen as a kit, it is very well done. |

If it is the reflection, then I take it back. But it looks like they have gold accents! Horrible. Otherwise, it would look OK. I like the wheels on the Calgary car, anything racy looks good on the F40. Ernesto |

The rims on the Calgary car are light weight Speedline wheels. Similar to the ones used on the F40LM car. I think they look great. The original F40 wheels are a little small in diameter and look a little old fashioned IMHO.

Ernesto, I wonder if the gold is just the reflection of the flourescent lights. I believe those are the MOMO 16" 3 piece rims. I have those on my Dino GT4. |

Jay, the first F40 is the one I was referring to! Those wheels with gold accents are VERY tacky, worse than the chrome wheels on an F40 on another thread. This type of wheel has no business on an F40. Ernesto |

Yes there are a few in Toronto but none of them are plated. Only used for track events. Most are waiting for the 15 year exemption. Why did the Calgary owner change to those rims? The kit car rims look better! |

I don't about the plates Jay. The car didn't have plates when it was on display that day, but I have seen the car driving once down McLeod Trail. My buddy is the broker who got the car for him, I will ask him when I see him next week. The owner is a baller, thats his gold Diablo 6.0 in the picutures as well. |

I believe that it is a real car (unlike the first one) but how is it registered? The car does not meet Canadian bumper standards and is not eligiable for legally entering Canada until it is 15 yeears old. If it is in the country as a work of art or as a track car then it can come in, but it can't be driven on the road. Does the car have plates? |

Here are some pictures of the F40 and other Ferraris from Calgary last summer. And for the conspiracy theorists, you can see the CO-OP grocery store in the background of a few of them. It's not a kit car, which is obvious from the pictures.

I am from Calgary. Don't own a Ferrari. Ijvept, if you are from Calgary, I may have seen you car downtown a few times. There are quite a few Ferraris in this city, including 4 360 spyders and numerous 355's, 348's and the F40. Jay, The car originally came from Montreal, and was essentially brand new when it came to Calgary. It currently has around 300km's on it. |

i doubt anybody would put those tacky wheels on a real F40 anyway... by the way, if you scroll the mouse pointer over image, it displayes the name of the image "f40kit". Anyway, it looks good enough to pass for 85% of the people. Do you have more pics? Ernesto |
