I have driven a 95 Diablo and it doesn't drive or sound better than a Ferrari although it shifts smoother than my 348, but it sure looks pretty slick pulling up to a gas station with the doors up. Hey, gotta love it for the looks and the attention it gets. There is a 99 Diablo roadster or 01 6.0 in the near future but I'm still keeping the Ferrari. |

Willis: The Vector was a pretty good looking car. Problem was that the rest was all hype. I remember seeing a poster(maybe its the same one) indicating it could do 220 or 240 mph. I later learned its Drag Coefficient was .55(sic). That's greater than one of those aerodynamic Kenworths with the slightly sloped nose. |

My car stereo installer (Precision Car Stereo in Mt. View) has two yellow Mercielago's in their shop right now. Get this.. One of them is in there because the guy wants the bottom of the door sill with the Lambo logo to light up yellow when the door is opened. The other one is getting camera's installed and the rear view mirror replaced with little video monitors just so he can see out the back of the car. Sheesh... And I thought getting a custom cupholder in my 550 was a bit eclectic. |

I have reversed my attitude on the Murcielago. I found the factory impressive & the people friendly & welcoming, big difference from Ferrari where most people r too snooty to give u the time of day. I still think the Murcielago needs a big wing, but the nose is very cool, looks very COuntach, so do the air boxes that pop up & down. Now if I had $300k burning a hole in my pocket there r several cars that would vie for my $. The F40 is hard to beat but the 427 CObra is very cool too & for $350k the Pagani Zonda is simply awesome. I think it could beat an F50 at 1/2 the $. Then of course there is the BBLM & the Porsche 962 for track cars. The 575 & 550 r cool but they just r not exotic enuf for me |

I used to have Lambo posters years ago. The posters are gone but I still have a few books on the Countach. |

Lambos are good to look at, Ferrari are good to drive. I remember buying a HUGE Countach poster and hanging it up on my room when I was in my early teens. But when it came time to buy, I got the Ferrari -- I grew out of the Lambo's "LOOK AT ME ALL THE TIME" styling. No Lambo since the Miura has excited me, it's like they all try TOO hard to be noticed. Still have the poster though... Ernesto BTW, I also went to the Lamboghini factory many years ago, and they took me right in with no appointment. And they gave me a nice tour. And they were very nice. But that doesn't make me wanna buy one. If I went to the KIA factory and they were nice to me I still wouldn't buy one! |

Willi: have you reversed stance on the Murci; your letter to R&T a few months ago suggested it was the TT(audi, not twin turbo)of supercars. |

I think Lambos biggest problem has been its customers. Just becus the Gold CHain wearing wankers prefer Lambos doesnt mean they r not serious sports cars. take my Countach for example which was the 800# gorilla of sportscars when she was released in 1970. The Countach has 1970 F1 suspension, huge tires, a complex tube chassis with aluminum body & some serious hp. Unforetunately outward vision hampers using that performance anywhere but in a straight line but she's a serious sports car. Now fast forward to 2002 & compare the 575M to the Murcielago. I havent driven either but I know the Ferrari has some serious potential but I prefer mid engine cars when I'm gonna spend $250k + on a car. I want something with wild spaceship Italian Sex Machine styling. I want a Murcielago cus its a serious sports car & it has the look I want |

William, does that mean you would buy the new Murcielago over a new 575MM??? Lamborghinis have been described as the ULTIMATE POSING MACHINE against Ferraris which are the ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINES. Line up a Diablo 6.0 against a 550 and I think you have the epitome of the difference. William as an owner of both marques where do you stand? |

I have an 86 Countach that I also had to restore, i know about limited side visibility Cant even see damn apexes with it but she sure has a lot of power & loves accelerating in a straight line, She gets tons of attention too. My 512TR is a much better all around car & better on the track also tho its not really fair comparing a 1970s design to a 1990s design. Regarding the new cars, I just came back from a tour of Ferrari & lambo factories. The people at Lambo were much friendlier & that makes u want to buy their product. Also I prefer the space ship looks of the Murcielago over the 550 or 575. I dont care too much for the 360 |

It seems that Ferraris got more attention than Lambos. That is just my experience so far especially at cars shows. |

ONLY the F50/F40 have as much road presence as the Diablo. I was walking past some flash London nightspot some time ago when a valet brought someones dark blue New Diablo 6.0 'round..... EVERYONES and I mean EVERYONES Jaws fell to the floor.. it was not only the wildest and most dramatic car they had ever seen, it was easily the LOUDEST WILDEST MOST DEAFENING machine EVER EVER!! Momentarily I forgot about Ferraris utterly. However if I was to ever own a Lambo it would be the later Diablo 6.0 or GTs. The early Diablos are meant to be like elephants to drive..... I haven't seen a Murcielago in the metal let alone driven one, but am prepared to give the new car a chance. I would still get a 550 over either though. |

Always wanted one, but keep coming back to Ferrari. Almost bought a restored lp400 periscope roof car, which was beautiful, sounded great, and was in fine fettle. Only one problem: i was so uncomfortable with the driving position, it seemed so claustrophobic inside, that, had i just wanted something to put in the livingroom, i would have taken it; the diablos looked less proportional to me (i didn't like the later countaches either, except maybe for the carb'd QV, not an easy car to find in the States). Love the look of the Muira, but have heard too many stories. Biggest potential drawback, at least in the northeast: all the dealers seem to be little more than showrooms. If i lived near San jose, where al burtoni's shop is, i would consider one more seriously.(did he ever work on yours?) There was a guy on the Forzamille a couple years ago, had one of the 400 gt cars, beautifully restored, gorgeous engine and sound, and he drove it like a fucking madman. Those may be the ones to own, 'cause i think they are cheap and if you going to put up with one, why not have a classic? |

Just unloaded my '91 Diablo after 18 months of pure hell fixing, updating and maintaining the thing. I give the later models more credit, but let me tell you the Diablo in and of itself is a ridiculously un-driveable car. It steers like a tank, shifts like a truck, and has basically no ability to see anything but what's right in front of it. I ended up spending all my time making excuses for why the car was so horribly engineered versus enjoying the pleasure of driving it. It looks better than anything on the road (personal opinion) but it's so unwieldy. The 355, by comparison, drives and feels like a real car. Was curious if anyone out there has converted over or has some opinions on their Lambo vs. Ferrari trials. I traded my 348 in when I picked up the Diablo. Big mistake - never go another summer without a convertible!! One last point in favor of the Diablo - if you happen to be 27 and single, there is no substitute (sorry, had to give it due credit! |
