Jon and Matt, why don't the two of you pitch in and pick up the one for sale at Symbolic Motors and race that into the history books?

They mentioned that the 333SP was probably brought out to add more "history". A little after that, the car retired from the race. But it wasn't all bad for Ferrari in that race. The Ferrari of Washington 360GT didn't win the race but clinched the team and driver's championship titles for 2002. |

How about plastering the car with the little stickers, like they did that one LeMans team. I thought that was a clever idea!

sounds like somebody wanted to add a bit of 'race history' to that vin number to increase the price at a later stage......... |

Maybe I am way off here but I was a bit perturbed that Wayne Jackson bought the serial # 001 333SP (first one ever built and never raced)and raced it at Daytona with a budget crew and a driver/racer who had no business being in a Grand Am race. The 333SP dominated US Prototype racing during the mid 90's with many important and storied wins including several championships. I have vivid memories of "Mad" Max Papis storming through the field and nearly winning the race in 96 and finished second in the IMSA World Sports Car Championship (MOMO Ferrari) winning three races (Road Atlanta, Lime Rock and Watkins Glen), four pole positions and setting eight new track records. The famed Momo car winning both the Daytona and Sebring endurence races in 96 with Moretti at the wheel. Wayne Taylor spanking the crap out of it at Road Atlanta hitting nearly 200 on the back straight and going flat out in turn 1. The great battles with the Riley and Scott cars. And lastly the LeMans efforts and the two FIA World Championships at the end of the car's famed career. The 333 SP was a beautiful, fast, and succesful prototype that was one of Ferrari's best cars. For some reason I felt that Jackson's effort took something away from the storied successes of past 333SP's. His driver (Van Shoote) barely qualified in the middle of the pack (two lowly AGT cars even outqualified them as did all the SRP II's). They barely finished 10 laps in a 3 hour race and finished 40th out of 42 cars. Speedvision never even mentioned the car or made any comments on the fact that this was serial #001 and that it would be the last race for a 333 SP (other than to comment it was in the pits right before they put it in the garage). If I had that kind of money, sure I might race it, but they could have got some world class drivers, sponsorship, a competant pit crew and maybe a waiver from Grand Am on the "strangling" restrictor rule that made the 333 SP uncompetitive in 2000. Like I said maybe I am way off here, but it looked embarassing to see the famed 333 SP surrounded by lesser Porsche GT machines (basically modified street cars) with half the horsepower and heaven forbid "antiquated" push rod Trans Am cars on the formation lap. The only two shots of the car was a spin on lap two and the pit scene where they were working on the car. the history of the car was never mentioned, nor the driver, ....... I have nothing against Wayne. He seems like a nice guy the few times I have talked with him at the race track and he has a great collection of famous race cars (917's, vintige Ferrari's, etc.). He seemed like a competant racer/driver the few times I ran with him at FOW events (he brings out a Porsche SuperCup car most of the time). It just pains me a bit to see the 333SP end it's history this way. Anyone else care to chime in? Regards, Jon P. Kofod 1995 Ferrari F355 Challenge #23
