I was at the Minneapolis Ferrari group meeting at Donnybrooke and am familiar with that Boxer. Feel free to contact me privately if you want some input.

The color looks a lot different that the correct red on David's Boxer posted below. It looks more like the bright Marboro red on new Ferraris rather than the red used on older Ferrari's of the 1960s,70s,80s and 90s.

If anyone's interested, Ferrari of Houston has a gorgeous black/black 512 BBi in the showroom with "Not for Sale" sign on it..perhaps for the right price?

There was a F-car meet up here this late summer and it was on the showroom floor of DonnyBrooke racing so there might be some others here that might be able to give their opinion on this car that were there the same day. John Stecher was there and I'm not sure what other F-chat members there are up here.

the commentary says there is an extra grille so i imagine that the original and he installed a black one in fron to match the rears. the interiors look dirty, but can't tell much more than that. the color looks like other red ones i have seen on the net, so imagine its original. looks interesting enough to call and see it in person.....

Patrick, it could be the lighting but that car looks like the wrong color red to me. And, the front grill should be silver and not black. Interiorand engine look a little ratty too.

6 lights and 6 exhausts were standard on the 365.
this was changed to 4 and 4 on the 512

Sorry for hi-jacking this thread:

David F., the six-tail-pipe exhaust system on your car, is it original or aftermarket?

Frank,
I've never attempted to drive my BB daily...Seems that John Law is always too nearby when those Webers come up on full song, so to speak. It's really tough to keep a straight face when I'm asked.."Do you know why I pulled you over?" The BB's are not exactly stealthy vehicles, and real tough to "hide" in a parking lot, or side street.

Ferrari of Atlanta has a beautiful boxer, have you checked it out? I see your from Atlanta? I drove several boxers, love everything about them. But feel better driving my 308 around because it is lighter and seemed snapier. Do you drive much on the track.

Ive got a 94 348 speciale too. Make sure you wont mind giving up the open ride. Good Luck.

A black on black Boxer looks awesome Frank! Best of luck with closing out on the car. Please post some pics when you get her home! Fantasic choice. Since it's mileage is in KM, is it a euro?

The black on black 512BBi with 9,000km is starting to look like the car for me. I just have to get the seller to agree to do the cam belt service as part of the deal and we're there !

Frank: buy the best car you can. Assuming the car needs a full engine service whether it is a queen or already has miles, i would probably opt for the one that has the best combination of low mileage, good cosmetics, and a real history. There are others here who you can turn to , to make sure the car is in proper mechanical fettle, and it might be worth your driving a good one, to give you a sense of the car when it is "right."
Keep in mind that some of the Dot conversions created these "shelf"-like ledges at the bumper which were truly hideous.I would guess you would spend between 7-15 grand to make the car road worthy and tight, whether you are buying a higher mileage car or a queen. Because the mechanicals of the boxer are pretty sturdy, i wonder whether the reverse of the normal rule is true, in terms of not worrying about the cosmetics. I would think that getting the body and interior straight, and getting it repainted, might cost far more than some engine and suspension work.

I know how she feels, I have toyed with getting a boxer for while now but am having a hard time giving up the mondial because of the ease of driving it.

Tom, my wife is not too thrilled with me getting rid of the 348 Spider anyway. She does not like older cars. She never drove my 330GTC once during the three years I owned it.

Frank

One thing that has not come up in your posts on the boxer is whether you will be the only one driving it? I know you mentioned in the past your wife has driven the 348. The boxer will be a much harder drive for her given the steering and the clutch. Just thought I would mention it

As I posted earlier I am looking into buying a Boxer. I want a 1983 or 1984 512BBi in silver, blue or red . I will drive the car 3k to 5k miles a year. I have found numerous cars out there for sale from $50k to $75K with mileage from 60k km to 9k km. I would appreciate comments and advice from all you 512BBi owners out there via e-mail or you can call me at 770.381.9223.
