What about people that use slang incorrectly? According to the Berkley online slang dictionary, the definition of 'whack' is: whack adj 1. displeasing, undesirable. ("Yo man, that's whack!") http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wrader/slang/w.html#top So if a Ferrari is 'whack', then no one should want it anyway. So why would it matter how it's advertised? (I can do this to him - he's my brother)

I've noticed that also, Ferrari Spa has only had like two widely distributed ads in the history of the company, both were very tasteful and elegant (one was a 360 in black and white and just said Ferrari under it, the other one was something along the lines of Ferrari, we are the competition). The dealerships though, like has been pointed out, have horrendous ads. Odd cut and paste specials. If they would simply snap a pic of a 550 in front of their showroom that would be infinitely better. |

Rob, Your ad is fine. No lies, no fake pics. If I chip in, will you buy a full-page ad and cover Exotic Time Machines? |

So I'm flipping through the current Forza and I see this: page 83 is an ad for Exotic Time Machines, Inc. They feature a Merc SLR that looks cut out of a newspaper, the front of a Ferrari F-50 that they call a 575 (available immediately!), a studio shot of a 360 Spyder horribly "cut & paste'd" into the ad (also available immediately), a crooked studio shot of the Enzo that they call "Ferrari F60", and equally thrown-in shots of a 550B and MB Maybach. Then I turn back to page 6 and I gaze at the ad for Ferrari of Central Florida--an ad that has remained essentially the same since I started reading Forza. The only differences are the painted-on TR, 348, 360, and Maserati, along with the Maserati logo and name painted on the building. These additions come every few months or so probably as inventory changes. There is little motivation to actually put light and shadow on the additions, so they look like a poorly-planned afterthought. Now maybe I'm a design snob (ok, I am), but these companies should know not only where they advertise, but who they advertise to. Forza is, IMHO, an important magazine for ferraristi and is thus read by the most demanding enthusiasts. So how do you all feel when you see ads (especially the Exotic Time Machines) that betray a lack of concern and ignorance of product? Do you take these companies seriously? Am I supposed to say "Wow! These guys are getting a Ferrari F60! I've heard about those-- they're whack! And phat!" like some 14-year-old? That's my vent. Please help me understand the point of some of these ads (these are by no means the only ones I've seen). |
