My wife does not drive the Ferrari, she does not like stick shift. Between my wife and my ferrari, my wife wins hands down, everytime, every contest. I have insurance for my ferrari, my wife is irreplaceable.

I've been trying to get my wife to drive my 348 but she is affraid of it! She is always complaining about how much it costs to own so I thought if she drove it she would understand why I love it so much.

Yes Chris, my wife drives around up to 3k at most. I keep telling her, noooo!, you're going to hurt it. It shifts better and you'll keep your leak down good. She just doesn't understand.

My wife drives the 348 to work every Friday. She likes the waves she gets from all the guys. The only negative so far is she has forgot to shift from 2nd to 3rd while merging onto the freeway. She told me all about how the rev limiter cuts power to the car. Well, at least she's not putting around and shifting at 3000 rpm.

Erin, there is a blessing in that post. She could have been one who demands a Ferrari because you have one. Or maybe drive your car more than you do.

My wife took to aircraft much more easily than she did to Ferraris. I can get her to fly in anything--no aerobatics, of course--but she would rather walk than ride in the Ferrari.

I think my wife dislikes my car because it is often seen as a symbol of wealth and/or waste. (She is a bit of a hippy) Nevertheless, I must admit my good fortune on that point because she is really quite lovely and I can't think of anything on earth more attractive than a beautiful woman driving a lovely car that she doesn't give a crap about! For that matter, I can think of nothing more convenient than a beautiful wife who hates to spend money!

Excuse me gentlemen... I feel the sudden need to go establish my worthiness.

Man you guys are lucky. My wife doesnt care what I buy car wise, she figures I will be paying for it so its my call. This of coarse as long as her checking account never runs dry...

However, she has never even ridden in my Ferrari. Not in the 911 either. She did ride in the 993 I had, but hated it (racing suspension and a pregnant wife dont go together). She pretty much hates riding in any of my sports cars. Oh well...

I know i only have an Alfa Spider , but it means a lot to me , and i did let my girlfriend drive it more than once . Once i even saw her in town , and it was the best sight in my life :-)

Do it you wont regret it . Im sure she knows how much this car is worth and what it means to you so she will take extra care of it .

My wife needs a 308 GTB dry sump and I'll even add a roll cage, fire system, racing seats, and have it undriveable for a year while I rebuild everything. Maybe I need to retake Marketing 101.

Good one Chris,
she is worth more than the car.

Marion has driven the car on the track and on the road. She looks so hot in it :-O
I wish she would ask for her own. I tried to talk her into buying the 360C F1 as a daily but she won't.

A lot of good arguments here but I think the "if she doesn't ask I don't offer wins out." I think there are too many issues with the spoiler being so low etc. and the fact that she would cruise into the mall for a few hours and then paralell park wherever, not thinking anything about it that it would not be a great idea. I am glad for those of you who have a wife or girlfriend that share the passion but mine thinks its another cool convertable...

My wife doesn't know how to drive a manual transmission and mine has a 6 speed. I like it that way anyway.

Although my 996 Turbo is a tiptronic and she hasn't driven that one yet either. I'm sure she will someday. Just to enforce the fact that it's hers too. Not because she really likes cars.

My wife has driven every Ferrari we have owned.

If you are worried about your wife crashing your Ferrari, buy a Ferrari of her own. My wife prefers I not drive her Dino! That is her baby!

Dana does not like driving the F40 however. She says it scares her, so I have to put a gun to her head to get her to drive it.

There is not a car out there that I value more than my wife, so why would I get mad if she wrecked the car? As long as she is ok, the car can be replaced.

If your wife does not drive the Ferrari, you both are missing out!

My wife cannot reach the pedals and has no interest in driving a car with a stick. She likes to ride with me, however. And she understands my passion for cars. She has a 400E and an SLK32 AMG to use for daily drivers.

At this point my wife does not feel comfortable driving it, but I encourage her all the time. I think it would help her understand the passion. She drove my 308 when I had it and I told her the 355 is much easier to drive. Especially the power steering

I let my wife drive it and she loves it. She gets a lot of looks :-). MY mother- in law wants to drive it - not sure if I am ready for that. :-) If anything happens as long as the driver and passengers are ok, I would start to think about the next ferrari purchase:-)

My wife can't drive a stick-shift car...never learned how...and she has no desire to learn...I've tried to talk her into it...should I consider myself lucky? She enjoys "riding along" with me in the 308 and the other "stick" cars, however. Most women that I've talked to seem to prefer the convenience of an automatic.

Magoo,

The car is insured. If it's totaled, we'll deal with it and get another one. In fact, if the car was totaled, it would be 3rd or lower on the list of things to worry about at that moment. The health of my wife, the passenger, and anyone else involved would be the primary concerns.

I won't deny that I'd be upset, but heck, it's just a car. A nice car, and something I've wanted forever, but it's still just metal and plastic that can be replaced.

think it also depends on which car it is. bb512 w/ no power anything and temperamental everything, probably not; vs a newish 456 gta w/ power everything, sure. as with everything else, you try not to invite trouble.

I have to side with Jeff on this one. I love my wife with all of my heart, however if something happened to the car (her fault or not) I too would have a hard time dealing with it simply because of how hard I have worked to get it. Fortunately, she respects my passion for the car and hasn't asked as me to drive it as of this point. Just my two cents...

I have no problem letting my girlfriend drive the 308. Becoming fluent with a Ferrari is akin to becoming a better driver in general--more aware, more confident, more focused. Driving a ferrari is a dialogue, and it teaches you to pay attention to what the car is telling you.

Lame, I know, but my girlfriend's driving has improved since she's driven the 308.

Plus, a chick driving a Ferrari just makes me insanely crazy!

Dave, I think that's great if you truly feel that way. A lot of these guys have spent so much time on their cars that anything that happens to it is a trauma. You see they are thinking if "sh-t happens" before they let someone else drive it.

magoo-
She would probably feel worse than I would. It would hurt initially, but it in the end, it is just a car. I would quickly move on.

WARNING to myself - Last time someone asked me this question, and I responded with the above, that same day, my uncle damaged my Laforza. (by warning myself, I believe it reduces the chance of the taboo)

Now, if someone took the car without my approval, that would be a different story than if I decided to let her drive it. But in the end, mistakes happen, either by me or someone else.

This is just a thought not a dig. For those who don't have a problem with their girl friend, or anybody else who shows respect for the car, driving the car, what happens if they total it? What would be your reaction then? Curious....

Texas is a community property state: the car is her's too. Tam drove the 328 the second day. She doesn't like to drive it to work, so I have more miles on it so far. She wants a 348, but that will have to wait a bit.

So I guess the shorter answer is "no, I don't have any problem with it."

As far as my girlfriend goes. I would love to see her drive the car without me in it. She loves the car now, and enjoys cruising around with me. If she felt comfortable enough to drive the car without me, I'd be more than willing to let her. I just love to see girls drive Ferraris! Just too cool.

I generally let anyone drive my car, as long as they understand how I feel about the car. I gauge on if they respect and treat the car as I do. I tend to be very protective of my car and my friends know that. I guess I'm one of those that like to enlighten others to my passions.

Jeff, if another Ferrari owner asked to drive your car, would you let him? If so, maybe all this is a matter of trust in driving ability or understanding the little things like a low front spoiler or getting the car into reverse. Bottom line, the choice is yours and you shouldn't feel obligated to anyone, especially when you aren't comfortable.

My two cents.

If she could, I'd let her drive it for sure. Ya, I'd be worried the whole time, but what the hell, it's only a car!

Jeff, I think that is only normal. My wife knows how I feel about it and she respects that and would never put herself in that position where it would be uncomfortable for the two of us. She does ride in the car with me a lot just cruisin'. Then there are women who may push the point to prove a point.

I know this sounds bad, but I cannot bring myself to let my wife take the car out without me being with her. Is this wrong? I know she would be careful, but if something happened and it wasn't even her fault I am sure I would have a hard time dealing with it. I know its only a car and I shouldn't feel this way but I can't help it. Am I the only one??
