Do you know the owner of the yellow 512?

I am curious to know if that is a 275 in his garage.

Nope, this one is red over black. The yellow one, which is also in fantastic shape, is up for sale.

Is the second 512BB in the shop a yellow one?? If so, the guys lives right down the street from me and also has a 512TR and an old yellow ferrari that I have only seen from the back, but am sure is a 275GTB.

The engine/mechanical work should be done by the end of the month. I have new seat skins from Re-originals coming in this month as well. They only took eight months to get done so they had better look good. Should be able to pack it up for the coast before Christmas.

If you stop by Sandro's shop you'll see he's got the engine out of a second 512bb for a belt change. What's interesting on that car is that it is the first belt change. The second 512bb is red over black and is in really good condition.

Mine will take a little longer yet although the engine compartment is to die for.

Grant,
I saw your 512BB at Alessandro's. Very nice! The 512BB has been one of my most favorite of Ferraris. When do expect completion? Opening the front & especially the rear engine cover is a sight. It is a style (GT40 & Miura) that should have continued today. Its just got a lot of 'n edge.

True Peter,

But if you have a relative or friend living in a different province, you can do it on the sly and say you live there. I personally wouldn't do it, but lots of my friends have for many years without getting caught.

James, legally speaking, you can not insure the car in one province and drive it in another. If you move from one to the other, you have a time-frame of 60 days to transfer registration.

Jay, I have a similar policy with my GT4. It qualifies for ICBC's Collector Car status and I pay around $500 a year. Same thing, I can't drive it to work or school, but I can still drive it 365 days a year.

Sandro at ALESSANDRO MOTORS does good work. He is just completing the rebuild of my 512bb. Counting the days.

Sure it's cheaper than Toronto, What are you going to hit, a tractor, maybe a cow?! :-) Just kidding. A good insurance company is Silverwheels. They specialize in older classics and collectibles. Their web site is www.lant-ins.ca Not sure if they only cover Ontario. For example I was quoted around $300 a year for the 1975 Dino GT4. Only stipulation is I can't drive it to work, but I can drive it everyday.

Hey guys,

Thanks Ijvpet for the info, I'm going to contact both of them and get some more info. Bjkim, I've got a few quotes from companies in Calgary and the best I've received is around $6500.00 but I don't have the best driving record so you might be able to get a better one. I might be down in Calgary over the next few weeks to check out some real estate. Any suggestions about a nice neighborhood around the airport as that is where I will be working?

so, it's 6k per year in Calgary through TD for a 996TT??

Wow, thats cheaper than I thought it would be. It wouldn't surprise me if it's more for a ferrari than a 996 turbo to insure though. Perhaps 8k at worst??

I still think the cheapest way to go would be to insure it in B.C. That's what everybody here does, who can.

oops~~

Sorry, I was wrong on 996TT's insurance cost.
It is about $6K/yr. Still way cheaper than Toronto. (it's a full coverage with $1000 deductible)

You can check in http://www.kanetix.com

however, the quote I got from ICBC is 100% sure, unless they changed rate. They told me that I have clear record for over five years, so I get some discount.

Thanks.

What kind of deductable were they giving you with the quote from Alberta?? Was it for full comp insurance, or just PLPD?

Honestly, the price seems really low for Alberta, especially since you are under the age of 25. But I am no expert on this. All I know for sure is that I was paying close to that for a 1992 5.0 mustang, with full coverage.

one correction...

The quote from ICBC is correct, however I quoted for 02' 996TT for the TD insurance in Alberta.

I think 996TT and F355 will have similar premium rate.

Thanks guys!

What I really mean is that...I don't necessary to buy a car in Alberta. I can purchase car from anywhere. (maybe from Ferrari of Ontario) Then I will ship it to Alberta. By the time, I will have address in Alberta. (I may live there for a month or so on, but not permanantly. Good thing that I have an uncle there.)

I was moved from BC about 2 years ago, and I didn't have to pay any tax in Toronto for the car I brought.

I asked the insurance costs in BC, and the guy told me, my premium will be $3400. Moreover, I quoted TD insurance in Alberta, and it was about $4500.

I am not over 25 yet, but I have been insured and driven for 6 years with clear record, no accident.

I guess I must continue to search on this issue.

If I still miss something, please let me know.

Thanks

BJ Kim

I grew up with Kulu and have been friends with him since we were little kids. He is the best exotic car broker this city has. He is also the guy who aquired the F40 for the customer in Calgary, and is responsible for their being so many new Ferraris in town.

I purchased my car in Toronto. But, because I live in Alberta, I only needed to pay the 7% GST. I think buying a car in Alberta will not work for you unless, you are a resident in Alberta. W.R.T insurance in Alberta, prices are reasonable for how expensive a Ferrari can be. Of course, it is dependant on your driving record.

Yes, we pay the 7% GST tax on cars. But unless you are living in Alberta, you will not be able to insure the car here, and when you ship it back to T.O, you will get dinged for the provincial sales tax. Unless you know somebody who lives here and you can use their address as your own, it won't work.

I can guarantee you that your insurance in Alberta will not be 3-4k per year. I have a perfect driving record,no insurance claims, drive a honda civic, over 25 years old and it's still $1300/year for me. On my mustang it was $3000 for full coverage, so expect to pay over $10,000 for a 355.

You are better off trying to insure with somebody in BC, as the insurance is not privatized there...yet and it government operated. My friend was insuring the exact same car as me in B.C a few years ago and was paying less than half of what I was paying on the same car, and he had a couple of tickets.

Hi all~

I have a quick question for those who live in Alberta.

Do you only pay GST (7%) on anycars? Cuz, I live in Toronto (15%), but I am thinking about buy one in Alberta, insure it there and ship it back to here.

Furthermore, the main reason I wanna buy car from other province is that insurance cost in Toronto is just too crazy for young people. I already asked my insurance comp, and they quote me CAD $13k/yr for F355B, also deductible is about CAD$3K. I don't wanna waste my money for crazy insurance. By the way, if I can get insurance either Calgary or Vancouver, it will be around $3K-$4K/yr which make sense.

what do you think? is this possible scenario?

if you have any other good idea, can you email me? [email protected]

I appreciate for all your thoughts.

Well Brent, there are few options in Calgary. The place I take my 355 to is ALESSANDRO MOTORS. Alessandro is a pretty knowledgeable guy about Fcars. He has always treated me very well and has solved all of my problems with the car for a reasonable price. He has a small shop, but I definately trust him with my car. I've seen that F40 in his shop including a murcielago last month. A good idea is to phone him @ (403) 276-3741. Another guy you might want to call for some of the information you are looking for is Kulu Punia. I have his number @ home, but try his website www.motorcar.ca. He sells a lot of exotics in this region. he curently owns a 2001 360 Modena himself. I get you his number tommorrow.

As far as I know, the guys with the older car like 308s use a mechanici in town. The newer guys have a mechanic flown out from Brian Jessel or Ferrari of Ontario but I'm sure Ipvpet will have the lowdown on that since he has a newer car.

Good to hear that there are a few of you from Calgary. I look forward to meeting with you in person. James I will send you a e-mail sometime over the new week or so and let you know when I will be coming down. I have a few questions about maintenance in Calgary. Is there someone in Calgary that can maintain a Ferrari or does it have to be sent out to Brian Jessel in Vancouver? Ipvpet, who maintains your 355 in Calgary? I have never lived in a city without a dealer so I have never had this problem. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Brent,

I live in Calgary. Unfortunatly, its a little snowy currently. I try to drive my car during the chinooks... Some good news... because of el nino, we should be looking at a milder winter than in the past. The car scene seems pretty sparse to me. I haven't met too many people with Fcars. I wouldn't mind meeting a few people myself. Great car choice, hope to see you driving around.

Hey Brent,

I live in Calgary, as well as another on this board, Ryanb.

I have been quite involved in the local car scene here for many years. There is one track here, but it's crappy to put it nicely.

However, there are quite a few Ferraris here, including an F40, and they all belond to the Calgary SPorts Car club, which go on Sunday drives during the summer.

What kind of car will you be driving in the winter? I'm not sure if you know, but it's currently below zero and we have lots of snow on the ground.

my email is [email protected] drop me a line sometime and we can try and meet up sometime.

Hi all,

My name is Brent and I just discovered this site. I have been a Ferrari fanatic for some time and several months ago I finally took the plunge and bought a red 1999 Ferrari 360 6speed.
It's just an amazing car. Anyway I just received a new job in Calgary, AB Canada and will be moving down there sometime over the next few months. Is there anyone from this site that lives in Calgary? I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the car scene in Calgary? Are there any tracks and how much racing is there? Are there many Ferrari owners in Calgary? I hope to hear from you soon and I am happy the be a member of ferrarichat.

Brent
