The Venice is based on a right steering 456. Cut open and customized interior. Don't know what the base for the FX was (maybe none or TR?). It is also a righthander and uses a Williams F1 (!!!) sequential gearbox with paddle shifting on the steering column. That's why I thought this was such a groundbreaking car and laid the foundation for cars like the F50 or 360. If somebody cares, I have more detail shots.

My god that FX looks incredible! And the green one posted... is that some kind of 456 or 550? |

The only Ferrari that I know for sure is at the Nethercutt Collection is a really nice 365 California Coupe. I think there are others, but can't remember for sure... |

I heard about the Nethercutt museum. Any idea what F cars they have? I would assume they got something special. |

In the LA area, I would also recommend the Nethercutt Collection, just north of LA in Sylmar, California. Only a few F cars, but MANY incredible Duesenburgs, Rolls Royces, Packards, etc. Its the most beautiful collection I've ever seen in my life! |

I can second the comments on the Marconi museum. I was there just a few weeks ago. Had to make a reservation first, but otherwise no problem getting in. They were incredibly courteous, even allowed me to move the sign posts to take pictures. Attached are a few of the cars mentioned. Personally I loved the Venice and the FX, just something different and you can tell how groundbraking the FX really was (see the Forza article about it). I asked them how they got the Sultan's cars and they explained, that one of the Sultan's mechanics is a friend of Marconi's. Guess that helps to get a one off Ferrari. Anyway, it is definitely a must for any Ferrari fan going to LA. |

We used to watch the F1 races there. Marconi is a great guy to hang out with . His position on the 2 F50's was " sh_t anybody can own one" . |

Recent concurrent thread on my just completed visit to LA (thanks Matt and James) had a mention from Hubert Otlik regarding the Marconi Museum. Gearhead heaven. You have to have a reservation, and apparently this is not a well travelled destination. I was there for nearly 3 hours, and was the only person. You have to be a serious car guy. No dioramas, ala Petersen's. Just a concrete floor with cars. The walls are decorated with very impressive memoriabilia (sp?). Cars? Well, there was a BMW M1, an old Mercedes, a few American muscle cars, and a whole $hitpot full of Ferraris. Not a P-Car in sight. Several notable open wheel race cars, including Mario's last, a Schumi F1 car, and others. Ferrari #53 (that's serial number 53 - it was a 1950 model) was there, wearing decals from a Mille Migna from just a few years back. Several Ferraris were unique or near-unique. The (to me) rather strange Testarossa-based FX, a 456 Spider (neat car), and others. 2 F50s. One with hard top on, the other with it off. Just to help you decide which way you want to drive yours. Shot 4 rolls of film (that's a primitive memory system for still cameras). Thanks Hubert. |
