Why is nomenclature of such importance?

Well the V6 config. has worked wonders for Honda and it's NSX. It would be interesting to see what Ferrari could do with a high performance 6. The TVR Speed Six unit (in Tuscan and Tamora) works wonders. Maybe an Inline 6 should be considered since they have V12s (basically two I6's)...

Sorry Jay - the History Channel did a special on Enzo Ferrari and in it they said he took it very hard when his son died - and said that after his death [Dino's death] all 6 cylinder Ferraris would be called Dinos. Guess that changed when Ferrari starting putting 8 cylinders in the cars instead of the 6 as I've also heard the 308/328/348 called Dinos.

I always thought Dino was an engine [6-cylinder] that was used in some Ferraris [like the 206 & 246].

I'd rather see the two lines distinct with their own models [like today]. Makes sense for Ferrari, Spa. as well b/c it'll be easier to sell off one marque with a complete line up and retain another if that was deemed the thing to do.

A new Dino would be awesome... but would it fight with the Maser for sales?

I think it's a stupid idea since the badge has nothing to do with the number of cylinders, the character of the entire machine has. Ferrari is Ferrari due to it's character.

There's already a "Dino" in the Ferrari-Maserati group, it's badged Maserati.

Remember that Ferrari have raced with 4C-cars. Check your history.

Ciao

I'd like to see a new Dino, but I think Maserati ought to get all the four seaters, regardless of the number of cylinders.

So this would make the F40 Dino a Maserati F40. Makes sense to me.

I think (hope...and yes I do own one) that the SUV fad will soon be over and fear that Maserati will be coming in way too late. I do have a friend that is a test driver for Fiat-Ferrari-Maserati-Alfa Romeo and he did say that they purchased an Isuzu Vehicross a few months ago and shipped it to the research facility in Italy. As long as there is never a Ferrari SUV or Wagon or Crossover or whatever they call them now, I am happy. I would like to see Alfa and Fiat take on the econo-box, SUV, Wagon.. market in the US and leave the highend stuff to Maserati and Ferrari.

OOh, I forgot to mention that I heard that there's a plan to bring out a Maserati SUV! Good or Bad?

A revived Dino car would be good after the Maserati lines have settled down and bring good results for Ferrari. V6 Dino for under $75K? I'd like to see that.

V8's are too entrenched as Ferraris now to be changed. Besides, there are classic Ferrari racers that are non-V12's. A 360GT just took the Grand-Am GT Champ title and others have been successful with the 360GT in Europe and elsewhere. Don't forget that the current F1 machines are V10's (where does that fit in?).

I would love to see a new Dino V6 or V8 (badged as a Dino) It would be a great addition. However I really don't like the idea of limiting the v8 market to Maserati. Maserati body/chassis designs so far are very uninspiring, unlike what has come from Ferrari. Plus I would like to see Maserati to come out with a V12 Quattroporte to battle with the S-class Mercedes. Ferrari should be the high performance/limited production cars and the Maseratis should be (reletively)high production cars to compete with Jag, Mercedes, BMW. Dino should be an entry level marque that is to compete with the 911 or Boxster (as it was originally). Ferrari is definately not only 12s as a few of their (F1) world championships have been won by few cylinders.

Now that Ferrari, Spa. owns all three Marques I think it would be great if a new Dino V6 line came out and then all new V8s be marqued as Maseratis and all Ferraris be V12s or flat 12s. What do you guys think?
