LOL Matt. Classic Coach. No working during the school year though, over winter break and the summer so like 5mths a year. I just started last summer. I haven't worked since the end of August which is kind of a long time ago, I stop by every two weeks or so so no one forget me. They're a very cool bunch of guys down there. It'll be cool when we have tech sessions and stuff, when I get my car back together I can go to the CC sponsored things like Garden State Ferrari Festival, etc. |

They should replace them Mark. We've got a couple sets of them that were returned at work (we gotta cut a big chunk out of them so not to be used again), they're just laying around. I want to do the 550 rims like you did (remember, imitation is the sincerist form of flattery) and was thinking about this whole recall thing to which is why I checked it out a bit. |

"Ferrari did offer anyone with mag. wheels the ability to have their rims exchanged free of charge for the new ones." I just realized where the term mag wheels came from! Duh! Never really thought about it.

I too remember the recall Chris is referring to. The magnesium wheels were found to rust prematurely, especially 'at the nuts' and for that reason along with compromised safety, they were recalled, and the current alu wheels introduced. Ferrari did offer anyone with mag. wheels the ability to have their rims exchanged free of charge for the new ones. Check with your local service center, there should be more information. --Dan |

Eric, No mention of the wheels being recalled; however, the 355's were recalled for possible throttle linkage breaking, fuel pump problems, fuel leaks, and steering column problems. Here is detailed info on the recalls: -------------------------------------------------- Ferrari North America Models: Ferrari F355 Years: 1997 - 1998 Number Involved: 649 Dates of Manufacture: September 1996 - September 1997 NHTSA Recall No.: 98V057 Vehicle Description: Description of Defect: The fuel injection line can wear from interference with the water hose clamp on the coolant pipe. If the fuel line fractures, fuel leakage will occur. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. Remedy: Dealers will inspect and rotate the incorrectly fitted water hose clamps. Owner Notification: Owner notification began during March 1998. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ferrari at 1-201-816-2651. NHTSA said manufacturers are required to mail a recall notice to all purchasers, owners and dealers when a safety defect or noncompliance with Federal safety standards is found. The agency urges owners to wait until they receive notification from the manufacturer before contacting their dealers to schedule the repair work. Not all vehicles of a particular make and model may be subject to the recall. -------------------------------------------------- Ferrari North America Models: Ferrari F355 Years: 1998 Number Involved: 235 Dates of Manufacture:January - May 1998 NHTSA Recall No.: 98V132 Vehicle Description: Description of Defect: The torque on the power steering column nut is insufficient. Loss of vehicle handling could occur. Remedy: Dealers will inspect the proper position of the splines on the power steering column extension and tighten the bolt. Owner Notification: Owner notification began during June 1998. -------------------------------------------------- Ferrari North America Models: Ferrari F355 Year: 1998 Number Involved: 81 Dates of Manufacture: March - May 1998 Defect: Fuel tank damage could have occurred from screws used to install the soft top mechanism covers. This condition can cause fuel leakage from the fuel tank, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Remedy: Dealers will inspect the fuel tank for leaks. If leaks are found, the fuel tank will be replaced. Dealers will also inspect the soft top mechanism cover screws to verify proper length. If the screws are found to be the wrong length, correct length screws will be installed. Owner notification began Sept. 30, 1998. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ferrari at 1-201-816-2651. [NHTSA Recall No.98V223] NHTSA said manufacturers are required to mail a recall notice to all purchasers, owners and dealers when a safety defect or noncompliance with Federal safety standards is found. The agency urges owners to wait until they receive notification from the manufacturer before contacting their dealers to schedule the repair work. Not all vehicles of a particular make and model may be subject to the recall. ------------------------------------------------ 1999 Ferrari F355 and F355 F1 Automobiles Recalled Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Transportation Administration (NHTSA) has published the recall of certain 1999 Ferrari F355 and F355 F1 automobiles because, on certain passenger vehicles equipped with Bosch braking systems, brake fluid reservoir hoses may not be resistant to brake fluid, which could cause failure of the hoses. According to NHTSA, should a hose failure occur, the brake failure light would light up, followed by loss of vehicle braking efficiency. 477 of these vehicles, manufactured between October, 1998 through May, 1999 are affected by this recall. Dealers will inspect the hoses and, if required, install new hoses that are resistant to brake fluid. Owner notification began March 21, 2000. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ferrari at 1-201-816-2651. Hmm...had never heard this one before, but I guess I don't have a 550. Does this apply for the magnesium F355 wheels as well? Does anyone know anything about this, because I have never heard such a thing. Thanks Eric |

Kurt, Here you go: -------------------------------------------------- Ferrari Recalls 550 Maranello Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a recall affecting 1997-1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello manufactured between January 1997 - June 1999. Number Involved: 468 Defect: On certain passenger vehicles, the wheel bolt inserts fitted in the magnesium wheel can show signs of cracking. If the wheel bolt inserts begin to crack, a reduction of the torque applied to the wheel would result. Vehicle handling could be affected, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: Dealers will replace all four magnesium wheels with wheels made of aluminum, which are not fitted with inserts. All the wheel bolts will also be replaced because the aluminum wheels require a different type of bolt. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification was to begin during October 2001. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ferrari at 1-201-816-2651. [NHTSA Recall No. 01V297/Ferrari Recall No. 32] -------------------------------------------------- Taken from: http://www.safetyalerts.com/recall/a/014/v1052.htm |

Chris, You need any original F40 press kits? I have a couple $300.00 each if oyu do. I never knew about the recall, that could be a good thing, if Ferrari scrapped all the Magnesium wheels, that would make these N.O.S. rims quite desireable i would think? Anyone have any news on this recall? How wide spread was the recall? Kurt. |

Kurt, As you may know, Ferrari recalled all of the Magnesium rims due to corrison and safety concerns. I am not sure you want to take on the liability of those rims! The price is right for someone that wants them though! Kurt, you do great work, if get anything F40 or Dino let me know. Thanks, Chris |
