David,

THANK YOU! This engine has "around 35K kilometers" on it, according to the seller. So I think I'm going to re-think what I'm willing to spend on it now, given that a NEW one is ca $40K-50K. Thanks again. This site is the best!

Brian,
I am the one who had the new F40 motor For Sale on eBay, awhile back. The motor sold for $30K, and was new and 100% complete. FYI, Lyle Tanner Enterprises has one now (or did as of recently) for $47K...

These factory new engines are around..

Regards,
David

I was planning on offering 50K if it's a real F40 engine.

I think it would be cool to put it in a 308/GTO replica.

Brian - you have heard it a million times. "It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it." These are rare gems. If an F40 owner walks out of a restaurant one evening to find her car jacked up and the engine gone, then she will pay dearly for another. However, if one throws a rod through the block - somehow Ferrari or one of the very expert parts groups may find the necessary parts.

The real question is, "What is an F40 engine worth to me?" It is highly unlikely that you will sell this engine for more than you pay, UNLESS you find someone desparate for it. If you are not desparate, walk away. You may hold the engine for decades until some vintage racer (30 years from now) needs it. Not a good business model.

I would love to have one in my Living Room, but absent the correct lottery numbers this evening, it ain't going to happen.

if the car is worth 300 grand, then the engine must be worth anywhere from 50 to 85 grand...just a guess...

On a side note...It seems that I recall reading somewhere that Enzo himself was quoted as saying something along the lines of "the owners manual/pouch is worth more than the Ferrari itself" -- that, according to him, the customer was buying the records/documentation and the car was merely metal, rubber, etc. If this recollection is true, then I wonder what the F40 manual is worth? Still, I'd rather have the engine!

Anybody know what it's worth if it's really an F40 engine?

I have come across something relatively interesting, namely an F40 engine for sale. It supposedly came out of a wreck and I plan to go and look at it soon. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to tell if its really an F40 engine or not. Also, how much would a real F40 engine, complete with turbos and intercoolers be worth?
