I looked at a 1984 512BBi today with 6,000km. It had been sold in 1989 for $275,000.00. It's worth substantially less now. |

the prices of a 288 GTO now would be some 400K, 308 would be 140 K and 512 would be 280K. It was rumoured early in the 90s that Ferrari saw the escalating resale value of their cars and decided they were going to make all the money when the sold the cars first. And the demand was definitely there..I remember when a Testarossa would require a hefty downpayment when an order was placed for it, and it would for thousands above list price... |

if the 512 was back, with an updated engine, lower weight, updated handling, and improved reliablity w/ lower prices for parts...I would be the first on the list even if it cost 300,000 as a limited edition or something. I think if they made some as a low production collecter car like the Austin Martin Zagato (sp?) it would kick. I would so buy one w/ 575M V12 engine and such; and since it would be collector, they could ask anything they want for it. But thats becuase IMO the 512 was and still is a wonderful design. I personally like 328 styling more than 308 and 288; and i think that those 2 models wont sell as well today; but then again, I think the PT crusier and the tbird are ugly (though the GT40 is very nice!!) |

The big three are really streaching these days. So far, I think Dodge is the only one that has been successful with retro or sports cars lately. That's just my opinion. Everyone else disregards new creativity and vouches for ..."lets reintroduce this car into the market, we'll just rebadge this car over here." sadly enough, some of them sell to the herd. you know what I mean too! Ferrari would never, and I do say, never would do such a thing. They wouldn't follow other's paths, they'd create their own and some will choose to follow their lead, maybe with better technology down the road with their resources, but it would follow Ferrari. Ferrari would not go back on their old designs - that's my take. |

In todays prices of sports cars, what do you think the dealers price would be on the 288 gto, 308, and 512 if they were reintroduced into the market today? Do you think the 308 would still be a hot seller? I know this is a little far out there....but Ford reintroduced the Thunderbird of old and I heard of a project to revamp the GT40. |
