Bret,

I went through the same agony (albeit a bit quicker, my resistance was weak...). The shields were really for cars with a racing heritage, that's at least how I understand it and that's why I believe e.g. the 360 has them as they use those cars in the Challenge series (say what you want about rich guys racing, it is RACING after all, anybody disagreeing should go to Indy where they run them flat open inches away from the concrete wall in turn 1, err 13).
Once I learned on this forum, that the 308 has been indeed used for racing (Le Mans I believe), that threw me over. There is the heritage and justification. Purists and concourse not counting.

If money wouldn't matter, I would also go with embossed and enamel shield, but in the real world I live in stickers have to suffice. But they look good too
:-)

Emilio has one of few bodyshops authorized by Ferrari to do this on 360s. The embossing looks from the factory. I can provide anyone his number and you can call him.

You guys and your damn shields are starting to wear me down. I've always admitted they looked good from an aesthetics point of view, but because Ferrari himself reserved the shields for race cars only (288, F40 are supposed to be race cars for the street, as well as the old school race cars that were made into street cars for homologation (sp?)) I've always adament on not putting them on the 308. It dawned on me though reading this that I have the entire engine apart and have no intentions of stopping mods until the entire car is essentially different. Not only is the 308 getting more like a race car (obviously not a true race car) but I haven't in anyway stayed with the purist view, nor am I a big fan of concourse, etc. The point of my rambling is that it looks as a set of shields might be in order for the 308 down the road. Damn, I seem to be folding.

Martin, I will post them when I get the car back. It cost me $2000 US., including repainting, in Toronto.

I have the stick ones raised ressin. They look good but I agree with Frank, nothing beats the beveled fender and recessed enamel ones.

Frank do you have some pictures?

Jim I agree. But if you are going to add the shield I feel it is better then a sticker. Depends what how you define original? Is adding a tubi keeping it original? Or adding a new stereo? I think the sheilds look great and better embossed. My 2 cents.

Frank: I agree the embossing is the best looking way minus cost. However, I was told that only special cars like the old cars?, F40, 288GTO, 550 Barchetta, 360 etc came stock with the recessed badges. So to a purist it would not be good to alter the body to put badges on the car. Is my thinking correct?

As Joel points out because they are sometimes period correct. I have two decals that I'm going to put on my P4 when it's complete.

I have got them done on my 355. I went to European Auto Body and they embossed my fenders and inserted the badges.
The downside is that the fenders have to be repainted and the cost.
Looks clean, unbelievable, original and great. I can't understand anyone using stickers. You are not talking about a Toyota or Honda.

The original S/F shields from the 1950's were decals! The same as on a model airplane...soak and apply. Cover with clear. Not too many around now.

Jeff,

I bought mine from Nick who is a chat member. they are the real ones, enamel with a very strong adhesive on the back. I originaly wanted to put the stickers on but after seeing the enamels there is no comparison. look on my profile for the pic

agree with ernie thick stick on plastic is nice and crazy cheap compared to real thing. fails at concourse but excellent everywhere else. got mine from ferr long isl for 8$ each also. real ones need molded fenders anyway which makes impossible for most models

Thanks Jimpo1 for the suggestion, but I think my TR has an aluminum body, so magnetic ones are probably not an option.

Use the thick shields, mount them on magnetic backing then you can have them on the car whenever you want.

Jeff

I put the raised shield stickers on my 348. Even though they aren't the metal ones I still think they look good. Got them from the dealer, they were about $8 each.

I know this has been addressed in the past, and I know only cetain cars have the s/f shields. But I like the looks of them and would like to put a set on my TR. What have you other TR owners out there done? Did you use the stickers or the thick shields?
