AT some point Spinner type knockoff's were outlawed in the US.

On the subject of safety, I've heard the comment that they dont meet safety regulations in a particular country (any make of car). What is the safety concern? Is it because they are a sharp pointed spinning object or is it because my mother wouldnt be able to change a flat?

the first dino to have the 5 bolt wheel pattern was s/n 01118. the brake manufacturer was changed from girling to ate at the same time, the beginning of the series m (or II). all 246's prior to this serial number had the knock off pattern as well did the 206's. the flares package changed the wheels to the campy wheels and the flared fenders. the earliest known s/n is 04676 (an earlier car in germany claims to be the first but cannot substaniate this claim).

safety reasons, yes, but isn't that the reason the testarossa went to the lug style knock off and eventually lost them. that was in the mid eighties at best. i don't think that safety was that big of an issue back in the late sixties and early seventies. hell, my 1974 dino only has lap belts- no shoulder harnesses- those aren't very safe at all.

Knock off wheels were frowned upon by the safety folks. I think they watched Ben Hur too many times. Early special equipment Lotus Elans had true nock-offs that were later changed to six sided Nader nobbs on later models, requiring a huge wrench for mounting and removal.

i am almost positive that the fiat dino has knock offs as well. there is currently a fiat dino on ebay that has the knock-offs. maybe it was a chage brought about with the fiat/ferrari merger. i know some of the ferrari dino wheels have been known to say "fiat" even though they weren'ty supposed. is it possible that the changes were made to keep costs down rather than manufacture two different types of wheels.

Perhaps Ferrari felt the 206's were the street derivatives of their racing 206SP's ?

The 206's came with knock-offs, not just the 12's. Just wondered why they didnt retain the same knock-offs as the original concepts.

The wheels look fine to me. The knock-offs were always saved for the 12's and the race cars. Don't know why, that's just how they did it.

i prefer the chromodora to the campy wheels. as for design, it's a matter of personal opinion i guess. i have pics of dinos with 308 wheels and don't care for that look. what amazes me is when you see a dino with modern 17 inch wheels. that is someone who lacks judgement. same can be said for any car of that vintage.

Why did ferrari loose the 5 spoke knock-offs when the dino went into production? The concept for the dino and the 365P 3 seater look awesome and then they cheaped out on the wheels for production. Why? I think the dino is nice looking but the wheels just have to go, they detract from the design.
