That really makes the car at $49,000.00 look crazy. Although where do you find one of these spyder cars at that price? I am ready to buy! Anybody got one? |

I was curious how close to reality my thinking was so I looked these up on SCM's site: Brooks Auction, London, 12/1996 1000GT spyder "Decent driving condition." SOLD: $22,264 Coys Auction, London, 6/1996 1000GT spyder "Very original. Well maintined. Attractive." SOLD: $23,395 Christie's Auction, Silverstone, 7/1986 1000GT coupe SOLD: $28,869 Christie's Auction, Bologna, 12/1978 1000GT spyder SOLD: $9169 I'm sure the spyders are more valuable than coupes, especially since there might be only seven or so in existence. |

Here's the Boblioff car at $49K: http://www.bobileff.com/ferrari_frame_hist.html?asa_1000_gt.html It looks to be nicely restored but I think the asking price is laughable. My opinion is that they should sell in the $12K (beater) to $30K (concours) range. The problem is that it's difficult to find someone who's looking for one when it comes time to sell. Conversely, it's equally difficult to find a nice example if you're looking to buy. I've seen mostly beaters and a couple in concours condition that were not for sale, like the red one here. |

Wayne, I looked at one of these coupe's last year at Boblioff's. They were asking something like $54,000 for the car and said it was sold. I saw one online a month later for $29,000.00 both restored. I wonder what the real current pricing is on them? |

Bill, there were somewhere between 7 and 20 spyders built, all with fiberglass bodies as opposed to steel used for the coupes. The inaccuracy of the exact number of spyders is compounded by the fact that several spyder bodies were left unused when production ceased. Here is a shot of a spyder owned by Mr. Peter Stephenson, who also owns a coupe:
If you follow the link provided by Tillman, there is additional information on the developement of this "baby Ferrari" as well as photos of both spyder and coupe models. |

94hp per liter. Not bad! Beats a large number of the modern sports. Ernesto |

These are fabulous cars. And a Ferrari designed engine. I am told that there are 2 spyders, anyone have a picture? |

There was one on eBay for sale a while back. I like the design of the car. Looks like a cross between a Fiat and a Ferrari. |

See http://home-1.concepts.nl/~evrck/asa/asa_home.html Not a Ferrari, but apparently a Ferrari-designed motor. |

What is the deal with these cars? Was there any Ferrari involvement in any way? Some people seem to place them within the 'Ferrari family'. Were they some sort of quasi-official entry level Ferrari? Looks like they would be a hoot to drive. |

I just developed the pics I took at the "Best of France & Italy" get together a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to share this one with all of you. It's an ASA 1000GT (s/n 01196) owned by Bill Inglis and Bonnie McRae of Woodland Hills, CA. If you can't read it in the pic, the license plate says "UNLITRO" (the Bizzarini-designed engine displaces 1032cc, or 1 liter). Notice how the engine looks just like a miniature 250 GT powerplant.
Futher details for those who care: ASA: Autoconstruzioni Societa per Azioni Engine: SOHC, 4 cyl, 1032cc, bore/stroke=69mm/69mm, alloy block and heads, 97bhp @ 7000rpm, top speed=113mph.
