Hmm...

How much do you think that'll fetch at auction Arlie?

I thought the lack of cargo space was what took the Ferrari/AC/Ford out of courier status, not the overheating. :-)

I know what it is. It's the ultra rare, egg-crate-grilled, Zagato double-bubbled windscreen, nose-inducted, Ford/AC Cobra with expanded hood and removable hard top. Secretly built in a joint venture between Ferrari, AC, and Ford, the car disappeared shortly after the Greenland 1000 kilometer race in 1965 where it overheated despite the sub-zero temperatures. It resurfaced years later during the Yugoslavian civil wars and was used as a high speed courier by U.N. troops. Unfortunately, the overheating problems resurfaced, and it was last seen abandoned by a cornfield in Chechnia and used as a playground artifact by local children. The current location of the original chassis still remains a mystery.

Didn't the Cunninghams have the radiator a lot lower? The driving lights would be in line with the top of the radiator. The wheelarches were also flush with the rest of the body, weren't they?

Not an Allard or an Alfa.

The badge doesn't look like either. Allard badge was rectangular with rounded edges. Red with Allard written inside it. Alfa's badge is round, granted. But the inside has the cross on the left and the graphic on the right hemisphere.

Allard "eggcrate" grilles where not this rotund. They had a peak at the top portion and the rest was much more rectangular. They did have some radiator openings which are more similar to this one, but they were much smaller and were designed with three thick horizontal bars.

Wheelarches look to be flared way too much to be a Ferrari 212 or 166. The badge on the 212's were on the hood/bonnet itself, not in front of it. The 166 had a badge on the hood/bonnet. Then again, the grille on the 166's are about 10 boxes at its highest point...I count 12 on this one. (Anal I know, but I found a picture I took from a Ferrari event of a 212 inter and a 212 vignale spyder.) The 166's and 212's also had much smaller lights under the driving lights.

All that said. I don't have a clue as to what this is yet.

It also has a vague resemblence to another unknown car in a previous thread.

Well it certainly looks like it is made of aluminum in that photograph! I would think aluminum because a steel body stripped to bare metal would start rusting in 2 days, unless of course that photo was taken the day that the paint was stripped off.

[email protected] is the owner. Fangio reference is from someone else and may not be accurate.

Judging by the photograph, it just has a kit car look about it that makes me think it is fiberglass. The passenger side headlight housing area looks to have a chip ripped out of the top part of the cut out. That happens in Corvette and kit car bodies sometimes. It just looks like a typical kit-car body that is made of one giant fiberglass piece in a mold. There looks to be some sort of brace rod inside the right rear fender. I think we need more photos. But the grill took considerable effort to make. The dog could be made of fiberglass also.

I know,
Alternative food sources in the struggling Argentinian economy has resulted in an abscence of malice in dog/cat relations. Notice how they've got each other's back.

The sides of the car and the air intake above the grill look like an 815 a little, and the grill appears to be styled like or perhaps IS from a 166MM. One of my guys in my office says it is an Alfa from late 30s to early 40s. I wish I could see that emblem!

I have heard of many home made cars for various Argentine races. I almost bought a small 2 liter Alfa that resembled a 125 Ferrari F1 car of the early 50s, and it was specifically produced for Argentine races.

James, is this car for sale?

As this is alleged to be from the estate of Juan Fangio I doubt it's a kit car...

I like it! It looks like something I should be hauling home on my trailer. It would fit in well with my Fiberfab Caribee kit car and the 3-wheeled postal trucks in my stash of projects. Look behind the car. Is that a matching hardtop?
Oh the joy of matching accessories! I'm no canine expert, but if that photo is from Argentina, that must be an Argentine Shepard dog.
Oh course if that is a kit car, it could be a kit dog.
