"..exactly what is in the Fiorano package.." -------------------------------------------------- One example is the Fiorano handling package which, in the particular case of Michael Schumacher's personal 550 Maranello (pictured on the opening page), consists of lowered (10 mm at the front, 15 mm at the back) and stiffened suspension using 25% stiffer springs and a bigger 21 mm rear anti-sway bar. That's fairly straightforward-where the Ferrari handling package differs from a normal tuner's repertoire is in the shock absorber settings. In a classical handling set-up, you'd jack the existing dampers for new ones. But as the 550 employs trick electronically-governed hydraulics to achieve its marvelously serene ride and sure-footed handling, Ferrari has turned to Bilstein to "chip" the dampers. That way you retain the switchable sport and comfort settings which adjust the damping logic on the basis of the type of compression being exerted as well as vehicle speed, steering angle, throttle opening, and brake pressure, but the response time of the new dampers is even faster, which gives it an even flatter ride. The serie Fiorano had several modifications mostly standard items from the carozzeria scaglietti program such as: Challenge rear grill, scuderia sheilds, red calipers, carbonfibre interior, and the fiorano handling package. The things that were unique to the fiorano was the suede steering wheel and the quicker Challenge steering rack that was fitted. It also had a plaque with the production number. Ferrari actually made 104 cars. 100 for the american market and 4 for the european (there really is no justice). If I remember correctly at least one was right-hand drive and it was sold to south africa.

also didn't they have a wider rear track and lower suspension? exactly what is in the Fiorano package?thanks. frankie |

Nothing really noticeable performance wise IMHO, carbon fiber bits and pieces. Supposedly had Fiorano suspension which was to be tighter. Driving them back to back did not yield any noticeable difference. It was truly Ferraris attempt to get rid of the last of the 355 components as the 360s were just around the corner and the 355s were d e a d. As far as any premium - just another 355 - depending upon miles. Except on the MSRP and not what the dealers were forecasting. Will |

A while ago it looked like they were getting premiums but now I see them for sale for the same prices as a "normal"1999 355 spider.Personally for the same or near the same money I would like one but as far as I know the only difference is some carbon fiber, red calipers, challenge grill and plaque as well as the suede steering wheel. |

collectable is such a big word. It will never be a 250GTO but surely is higher valued than a regular 355 Spider. How much more is hard to tell. I would say maybe $10K additional. Pretty much what the 1 or 100 348 Speciale and 1 of 32 factory Challenge comands. Does not pay to let it sit in the garage and hope for more money. You will definetely lose. Where is Mr. Montgomery, he has one! |

Dunno about a premium for collectibility, but didn't the car have a few performance tweaks, in addition to the fuzzy steering wheel and number plaque? |

can't see any signficant prem, prem relate to limited run 12s and/or those with racing history. The 8s just don't carry the same cache |

I have been thinking that if 100 Fioranos were the last ever produced 355's ever made then wouldn't #100/100 be worth more than #1/100 since it is the LAST 355 EVER built? Also a freind of mine has a Fiorano in the 30-40/100 range that is a 6 speed, he says that only 6 out of 100 were ever made with 6 manual transmission. Any opnions??? Thanks |
