The message is correct, if it is too good to be true, well.....
It may have a clean report but that only tells a small part of it's history. It could have been a rental car in Las Vegas for that matter. I am not saying this is not a good deal only that the buyer must do his part on the inspection of the vehicle and Ebay is not an indicator of real car values.

David;
I don't think you can check outside the US: I think Carfax works with insurance info database only within the US. I am not even sure that all accidents are reported, because not all insurances may be connected to that database they draw from. Just my guess.

Some more updates on prices:
here is a link to eBay auction for a Challenge car. Nice, sweet car. Bret, think about this instead of the Corvette!

Out of the paper this weekend:
The 355 Berlinetta is still available, I will call the dealer this week about this car. He also has a 456GT, 1995 for $ 97,500, which is a good price.

2000 F360 F1 red black with 7200Mls., must be a Euro, FL titled for $ 144K

The yellow 355 Spider is also still in the paper.

In the description it said that the Carfax report came back good. Are you actually able to check out a Vin's history with cars that are outside the US? Again, maybe someone from Ameristar can give us some info on how they go about checking the Vin number for reported accidents and mileage rollback and all the other stuff.

Here is a red 355F1, 1998 for sale in Atlanta for only $ 110K

Sorry, this car is in Germany...too expensive! This link came through eBay. I thought it was the same as the car advertised there!

You can get a 355 Spyder from Europe with low miles for around $90k. Not sure if it's an option or worth it once the conversion and shipping is done. Maybe someone from Ameristar can help out a bit. Give some pricing. I just looked at: http://www.carclassic.com/html/FERRARI-F355.HTM#F355SPIDERF1 for my pricing figures.

According to the Ferrari market letter the current average price for a 355 Spider is 146,185 Six months ago 130,554 11.97%, one year ago 124,349 17.56%, two years ago 129,959 12.49%.
What ever the price, it is what the market will bear.

I know one of the dealers. I bought my wifes Mercedes there two years ago. He does have good prices.

None of the cars are F1. Even the SF is a 6 speed. I am just wondering if that car is a true SF or just an imitation with the carbon parts in it. The guy claimed that it was the last 355 production month (3/99) when the car was built.

I agree with Dr. Martin that the prices have to come down on the 355. They are over the top due to the hysteria of the 360 prices. Once that settles things will get normal again.

On Friday at Shelton Motorsports there were 6 or 7 F355 and they were priced much higher. I can not understand if someone would buy a 5 year old car for almost new car price! But then I also do not understand people paying $ 350,000 for the 360 Spider, to be the frist to drive the car around the block. Beats me!

Read the Ferrari Market Letter. That is a pretty good indicator of where the asking prices are holding at. These prices are too low. I know in Phoenix they would be gone instantly if they were real.

smells fishy to me too! A F355 f-1 SF should run anywhere from $170-$190 if its real....what do that say about it if sounds too good to be true. Thanks for the data Martin. Kevin

Those prices seem at least 5k on low side.Smells fishy. However I do think the prices of the 355's will be coming down as more and more 360's become available and their ridiculous "used" prices come down. When this will occur? Who knows probably in 6-12 months.

just called the guy.
He said he has already a deposit on the car. I talked to him quick and it sounded like the limited edition but he says the limited plate was stolen out of the car. It sounded kind of fishy. Who knows, he then hung up on me. Still for a F355 it would be a great price even without the SF.

Martin,

I've always seen that the internet causes prices for rare items to be increased. While the exposure is greater for the seller(making it easier to sell), the ability to sell the item at more than its regular value is increased too(competition among the buyers). If you only advertise in your local newspaper the exposure is small and your selling price will have to be lower.

The prices you show for the F355s seem more reasonable to me. The 1999 looks very good - I wonder what the stories are with this one?

After seeing some crazy numbers on F355 prices let me tell you what I saw justa few days ago in our local papers:

96 F355 black over black Berlinetta $99,950 at Prestige Imports (these are bandits)

1997 355 Spider yellow over black 6spd 15K Mls service done $ 109,000

1999 F355 Spider red over black Series Fioranno 6spd 7K Miles $ 119,000

97 F355 Berlinetta red over tan 19K Miles $ 105,800

1998 355 $ 22,000 (wonder if this is a replika)

Just for your info guys! I think the Fioranno is very interesting in price!
