Lawrence, any info you can provide on this would be greatly appreciated....for me and Julian, and I imagine anyone else. I think a new thread was started called 348 Stereo Upgrade. Lets put any future info there.

Thanks a million - David

David,

My speakers suck too. I want to replace my speakers also but don't want to go through the trouble of cutting a bigger hole like what Larry did. Let me know if you're able to find a directly replacement speakers. Oh well, I guess I'll wait a little longer for my spacers.

Good luck on the speakers,

Julian

David,

If you plan on replacing the speakers in the OEM position in the doors and the tweeters mounted under the dash vents I can give you some watch-outs.

I just installed Alpine component speakers in the original places. It is not a straight swap out.

Oops, sorry not about wheel spacers

Guys,
it took almost 4 weeks in my case as well. They were suppose to ship them airmail and the stickers etc said so but they took 4 weeks after all. I guess that was a slow bird...

The spacers were coming loose after about 100Miles. I have since then hammered them on. Almost broke the wrench. Nothing since then.

The 5mm on each side will likely not make such a big difference. You will likely not even see the difference to the 30mm.

David;
I did not do the calipers yet. I have no time for anything. Just came back from a vacation in Europe and last weekend had to work on a fund raiser for my local charity. I hope I will be able to clean up my new warehouse this weekend. One of my tenants left and I kept the warehouse for my own use. Cleaned out the garage and my office and will create a new work area in the warehouse to work on the car. Any also to store some of the cars I have. Our house has only 1 car garage and a carport but we have 4 cars plus my parents car while they are gone. The neighbors are joking that I have a dealership at my house.

Julian, When I ordered mine, Koenig said he was out of the 30s (15x2) and 60s (30x2), and wouldn't have any until after their holiday, the first week of Sept. Being impatient and in need of instant gratification, I ordered 50s (25x2) for the back, since he had them in stock.

The 50s were supposed to ship before their holiday. I've called and the answering machine says they're "in holiday" until Sept 3rd. My credit card's been charged, so I'm watching for them. Mark

Julian, I didn't need to follow up with Koenig. Maybe a phone call there way will resolve it. Has your credit card been charged yet? It's possible the order was mishandled. Maybe you and Martin can conference in and call them together to get to the bottom of it.

On a side not: Are you guys putting any special stereo equipment in your cars...ie amps, subs and nice stereo's. My car came with a very nice Kenwood, but the speakers suck, and I wanted to put in some good stuff. Let me know what all of you are doing.

Hey Guys,

I don't know what's going on here but I still have not received the spacers that I ordered in early July. Did you guys follow up with another phone call to Koenig? Any way, please keep me posted about the spacers coming loose. Thanks,

Julian

David,
make sure to tighten them goooooooood.

Mine came loose after 100 Miles. Had a strange noise. They will not fall off but are not attached to the wheel anymore.

Probably retighten them after a few daysw.

David,

When I ordered from Mr. Koenig JR 2 weeks ago, he indicated that I would have it the following week. I thought that was too fast but didn't bother to discuss. I still don't have it yet since I figure 3-4 weeks is more realistic. Martin had indicated that he waited 2 months.

Julian/Martin, I just ordered a set of 60mm for the rear. I figure I can do the fronts at a later time. I am more concerned with the rear at this point. Quick Question: How long did it take for the product to arrive?

Good deal Julian;
make sure to post pictures as well. The 20mm will work great as well.

HArtmut;
You need to see them in person! They look sharp. Lets get together soon. My wife is leaving this friday and I will be gone the next.

I finally called Koenig Specials in Germany on Monday and ordered the spacers for my 348ts. I spoke to the secretary, a technician, and finally Mr. Koenig Jr himself, he was very helpful. They all spoke english fluently! I'm going with (on each side) 20mm front and 30mm back.

Can't wait to put them on the car!

Hi Martin
thanks a lot for the great pictures. For me the spacers make all the difference. Great looking! The response you got from everybody else is also only positive. Super. When I posted that I am looking for spacers a while ago I received several responses like "How can you even think to put spacers on your car?" , "What are they good for?" etc. Well, I hope your pictures give a lot of answers to all of them who were scepticall. I still plan to put spacers on my 355 Spider but I am not sure yet where I am gonna order them.

Julian, not a problem. If you can not get it resolved, let me know and e-mail me direct so I know what you want. I still think that your best bet is calling them.

I emailed Koenig a few days ago and have not heard back. Maybe their system admin doesn't speak english. I thought that if enough of us want to order the spacers, we just pre-pay Martin and beg him to order for us using his native language so the order would be exactly right.

Martin and the rest of you guys, how does that sound?

Julian

David;
I spoke german with them. My native language. But I am very confident that they all speak english as well. After all their site is also in english and they do a lot of export business.
Just saw a Koenig-Testarossa the other day in the papers. William was considering a Koenig-Tuning for his TR. So yes, I would call them and just talk english. If you can not communicate with them, make a conference call with me and I will translate for you. My phone: 305-867-7676

Randy, as much as it rains down here in summer, I also try to avoid the rain. So in theory the car will be driven only in dry condition. Once in a while the car will hit a passing shower. In that evening case I went in nice weather to a bar in downtown and 2h later that front crept up on us from north...After 3 month that was the first time I was in true rain. That is why I was so impressed with the handling. So I will give the other tires a chance, when these are gone.

martin - I forgot, it rains every day there! (I have only stayed around Miami for three months some years ago) Thus, the AVS's handle great! The S02's flat out blow in the rain, as in blowing your car off the road - they just don't handle worth a damn in the rain, but then again, I've seen very few Ferrari's out in the rain.

Martin, did the people at Koenig speak English or did you have to speak German with them?

Dan,
that is Miami. A drug deal gone sour!

Seriously, I have no idea. I thought that was for the tow hook but it looks like someone drilled that to place a radar detector in there. Only explaination I have! I am waiting for some dumb ass to hit me in the back so I can fix that!

Front would be good too. I have the stoneguard already at the house. Needs to be painted first and then I will put that protective film on. They will paint the car while I am in Europe.

The AVS handle phantastic in the rain. I was driving through a heavy tropical storm the other day (with my top you have to go 50Mph) or it will leak). Everybody on I95 was crawling at 30Mph and I was cruisin by at 60 and the car never felt loose or out of control. The best experience I had with the tires. Otherwise they are not the greatest, I agree. I had them on the track in Sebring and they did okay. But I will not buy them again guess.

Martin - the small changes, like the spacers, do a lot for the car! I like it! And the AVS Sports look great too. On your next set of tires, I'd suggest the S02's (OEM/non-pole position) or S03's - the AVS Sports, I have them currently, do not stick as well - sure they talk back to you and give you plenty of feedback before breaking the car loose, but they just don't stick. The S0x's I've had stick stick stick, but when they give, just be prepared for it.

How's she handle?

Posted on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 - 9:16 am:

One Euro is 0.86 US Dollars. Or 1 Dollar equals 2.25 Deutsch Mark.

The rear spacers are the type you have to screw with smaller bolts to the axle. Then you reuse the old bolts to hold the wheel.
On the front axle, the spacer is not fixed to the axle. I placed in into the wheel and then onto the axle. For these you get longer bolts.

Basically you have all the parts you need to put them on. No running to the store to get something.

There are two guide pins on the existing axle. These have to be taken off. No biggy though!

On a scale from 1 to 10 for difficulty...this is a 0, even I could do it!

Cost was something above $500 for all 4. Remember that the mm they show on the site is for both spacersd combined. 10mm means two 5mm spacers, which is nothing!

Found the website at koenig-specials.com although I don't know how to "highlight" it. Martin did system III with the screwed on spacer come with new bolts for the wheels in addition to the bolts holding the spacer to the hub, or do you reuse your old ones? As mine are kind of ratty.

Is a Eurodollar approximately a USDollar? Thanks again. Mark

Stu;
I know. In summer you have to mow the freaking lawn every week. You can hear the damn thing grow. Maybe tomorrow. I always try to get an extra day out of it. Same with shaving!

Mark;
yes, I do have a painted top and the painted underbody. My car came that way. If not by now I would definetely do it though. It looks much better this way (my opinion). The painted top gives it the TB look yet you can open up and drive the TS. A more rounded look.

As for the Spacers, I bought them from Koenig Specials in Germany. I called Mr. Koenig Jn. and talekd to him what he would suggest. He was very helpfull. Had my doubts about the look with the big 30mm on each side first but turns out just right. The website offers spacers but really not that size. The sizes you see there are for the whole axle. If it reads 20mm it means 10mm each side. So on my rear I have 60mm now widening of the track (almost 2 3/8 inches).

The website is:www.KoenigSpecials.com

Martin, That is beautiful! The pictures made me ran out to my garage to check how my wheels seat on my TR. Well, it turns out that the aftermarket wheels it has on are set up just like your "after" pictures. I have not put the original wheels yet (since I only plan to use them for concourse), but I will love to see if they look as good as yours do. Great work!

Martin, your car looks great. I want to either copy what you've done or go with aftermarket wheels on my red 348ts. My original wheels are pretty scarred up, so I would need to have them re-powdercoated. Where did you get the spacers? Did they come with the bolts? Cost?

Hey, is your car the one with the painted ts top? Did you have it done, was there much to the prep work? Thanks! Mark

Nice job!! They look great - a significant improvement! Give the car a much "meaner" look which I think is terrific. Thanks for the pictures & have fun!

I finally received my spacers yesterday from Koenig Specials in Munich. I ran right home and put them on the car! On the 348 the wheels are kind of inside the wheel housing. Never liked that. Makes the car look small. This is likely why the 348 spider look so much better, wider track.
With Pontiac's words " La ula ola" (or whatevery) wider is better!

It was very easy to put them on. Take the wheel off and put the spacer. I have chosen 15mm on each side front and 30mm on each side rears. Thisa keeps the front a little inside the housing and the rears come right to the rim of the housing. The front rings are held through longer lug nuts. The rear has short nuts that srew into the existing mounty and then you use the regular lugs to screw the wheel back onto the spacer.

Here are some before and after shots:
