Modman, I agree but nowdays the man is not always the only person who makes the money in the family. Sometimes the wife is the chief money maker in the family. There is where the problem comes in.

Man, I didn't bother to read all the threads but this don't make sense to me. Rule one, never let the women tell you how to run your life! Yes mamm and you're done for, MAN makes the money, man makes the rules, man has his rights to do what he wants. As I would say take it or leave it. Keep the car and find a way to make more money or better yet, tell her to make more money! This advice will help your future, take it from me, it's all good in the hood.....

Take it from me - your Ferrari will cost you a whole lot less than that kid will cost you over the next 25 years. Keep the car & ditch the wife.

Chris since your a police officer I doubt you'd ever get a ticket for speeding in the 348. Does this change your driving style?

Everyone-Thanks for all the support on the car issue. It me over two decades to be able to afford it, and almost a year and a half to find just the right one, so I would have been kicking myself in the a-- for the rest of my life if I would of went through with it.

Art-The cop car actually belongs to me...and no, not all of us are tail light chasing jerks just looking to write citations to all high end cars on the roadway (ha, ha).

Chris:

Glad you were able to work it out. I just noticed the cop car out in front of your house in your profile. Is your wife the driver of that vehicle?

By the way, when I bought the 355, I told my wife it was a loaner. Took her about 2 months to figure it out, and while there has been a little grief, nothing that couldn't be handled. Keep the car, learn a lesson from this, NEVER agree to sell your toys, unless you end up without shelter, food, etc.

Congrats

Chris, sorry to hear about that. Kind of ironic, though. Does your wife realize that, by forcing the car out of the family, she will actually be getting 2 babies! I know I'd be crying like one.

Ok... i read everyone's responses, then remembered that you said there was a picture of her, (your car), in your profile... before looking at the picture, i was gonna tell you that you need to do whatever it takes to hold onto her... after looking at the picture, omg... she's gorgeous... like you said, you're gonna miss your wife, but it's worth it...
If money isn't the issue, find out what is, but whatever you do, don't get rid of that car... like everyone else said, it makes no sense that you should have to get rid of it, only to be able to get another one in a year or two... walk around looking sad, mope, stop eating, do whatever it takes- just don't let her go...!

(if all else fails, let me talk to her, i seem to have a way with women...)

Christopher,
good to hear that discussion is off the table. You would have been creamed!

Testpipes is a great and cheap alternative to a Tubi. I am very happy with mine. Sounds better, REVs better and was a fraction in cost.

Would sound probably 10 times better with the Tino-Tubi added :-)

Christopher,

With the yearly tax deduction you will receive by having a baby, it will hopefully pay for at least part of your yearly maintenance. So, it's a good business decision all around. :-)

FWIW, I brought home a TR and a Boxer several times and my wife never realized that the cars were not my 308QV. To her a red car is a red car. You should have no problem with getting a tubi. Just pay cash to hide the evidence.

I AM KEEPING THE CAR!!!
After sitting down and explaining the current Ferrari market slump to my wife and the loss we would be taking if we were to sell it now, as well as how much it would cost to get back into another car (mark-up, taxes, etc.) after the new baby was born, she finally gave in. In return, I agreed to refrain from purchasing any mods (tubi, shields, etc.) for the car until after the baby is born (or at least to her knowledge).

Ok this is about as bad as someone asking to drive your Ferrari. Listen I have three children and owning a car has no relation to raising a child. To sell a car because she wants to get pregnant is a pile of garbage, it sounds like a clever ploy if you ask me. Don't be a sucker, cause I'm willing to bet, as soon as you get rid of the car, mysteriously she doesn't have the urge to get pregnant. It has more to do with money going to what you want and not what she wants. Next thing she'll be asking for is your pants. Listen there comes a time in a man's life were he has to stand up and be a man, even if his wife gets mad, this is one of them. Keep the car.

without trying to be the bearer of bad news here:

You paid too much a year ago and are asking at least $5K too much. So that baby will cost you $ 15K off the back.

Chris she is right sell the car! You should set your price around $85,000 firm and tell her the money you put into the car is worth the asking price. There goes a month, a year, and then some. Honey this economy is tough on selling exotics and may take a while. Work it!

Its just like selling your car to get married or buy a house, once its gone, how do you justify blowing a large pile of money when your responsibilities are even greater. I have a 2-1/2 girl that loves the car and one on the way. I would sell it before I lost my house but for no other reason really, other than to upgrade. If the car its a monthly payment type of drain and a wife on maternity leave then I can understand.

I beg to differ when you say kids are "relatively cheap". By no means am I wealthy, but I average about $1K per week for my 20 month old son. That is $52K a year, and he is not even in college yet.

What difference will it make if you sell it now and can have one next year? That is awfully suspicious. She is your wife but not your boss. Is she going to sell all her shoes (or whatever she may be into)? Like Michael N. my Ferrari showed up at my house and I said to my wife "Hey, look what I bought". She was angry for 5 minutes until she rode in it. Then she was on the phone with her friends and family telling them what WE bought. We have a 2 year old and one on the way. There must be some other issue. My child (children) come first in my life always but no one decides when I am selling my F car except me. If the car is in your budget now, it will be fine while she is pregnant and when the child arrives as well. Matt, Tyler, & Jeffery - great posts.

If it doesn't sink in Chris remind her that sharing is important to marriage. Tell her you'll be happy to dump the car in good faith if she is equally willing to dump your current dwelling for lesser digs. Likewise, when you can upgrade so can she.

Just say NO. Seriously, this is not a Good Idea(tm). You will _never_ get back into another Ferrari.

Sell the pickup and buy a surburban.

I just don't see the link between another baby and selling the car. What's the actual argument she's using?

Babies are relatively cheap to have and maintain, unless you don't have health care coverage. I myself have 2 little Ferrari fans, aged 4 and 6. I'm having a hard time finding a reason why a new addition to your tribe should be a reason to punt your beloved 348. Plus, what if you have a boy? What's he going to think of his pop punting his Ferrari because of him? I see a potential for long term emotional problems. Ok, i'm kidding. But seriously, try your best to keep your car, as I am sure your are. And jeez, I can't see taking a 10 grand hit in less than a year. Mom has to consider that. Yeah, you just need to find a good excuse for the future mom. Hmmmmm.... how bout, tell her if you sell the Ferrari, you will become impotent. It'll totally mess with your hydraulics, so then there would be no car, AND no kids. LOL! Anyway, good luck Chris. Best wishes with your new addition, and I hope you find a way to keep that beautiful black 348.

BTW, car seats work perfectly well in a 348. My kids got their first Ferrari smile at a very tender age :-)

There are women who get extremely jealous of their husbands Ferrari. It is the other woman and he devotes more time and seems to give it more attention then he does her. Also here she is pregnant and feeling possibly unattractive and the "Girls" are looking at the husband when he drives this beautiful machine. I think when you give it up there will be a real problem later on "trying" to get another one. Do what you have to but don't get rid of it.

Introduce her to the Mondial T...worked out great for me. In my case it wasn't my wife but my own pleasant memories of driving with my father in his Karmen Ghia convertible. Something about taking a couple of squealing kids along that will change their outlook on autos forever.

And people wonder why I get cars and even airplanes without talking to the wife. I had one airplane for over a year before she realized that it was ours. The Ferrari, I just drove home -- No conversation whatsoever. Sorry to hear about it Chris, next time I recommend not making it a joint decision if you can.

Something about wanting another baby (I told her we could put Pampers on the car but she wouldn't go for it). Anyway, here are the vitals:

1992 Ferrari 348ts w/26,200 miles (pic in profile)
30k completed by Ferrari of Denver @ 21,647
Black w/black leather interior (cavallino floor mats)
Books/tools/car cover/manual
18" Speedline wheels with new Pirellis
Drilled aluminum pedals
Chrome cavallino on front grill
Built in radar detector
Alpine alarm & amplifier
Kenwood C.D. player with subwoofer
Alternator upgraded to Nippondenso
Bosch 2.7 ignition
Front license plate braket (in bag)

I purchased the car in July of this year from Ferrari of Denver for $69,900, however I am going to be selling it for $59,900 ($10k loss for driving it less than 3k miles). If interested, contact me by e-mail and I will answer any additional questions you may have.
