Lunch at MATCH on Weston Rd. and Hwy 7 on Friday January 3/03? Is this a sure thing? I have to drive 3 hours to get there so need to know. Any of you boys interested in touring RM Classic Cars in Chatham [headquarters]. Check out their website if you wonder about the size and inventory of the place. Definitely worth it. It's a long winter so this is something to look forward to while our cars sit in storage. |

This may sound like a crazy idea but...What if some time during the summer we all got together and put on a Ferrari show and shine..ya know like the hot rod clubs do in the parking lots of malls, but make it at a nicer location like in a park or on the grounds of a university. I'm sure you would have to ask permission to do it but I don't think it would be too hard for it to be granted. All you would have to do is mention the word Ferrari and we'd be in!! |

Paul and the gang: Went by Rock's Auto and met Rocco tonight. What a great guy. Super friendly - really genuine. He strikes me willing to talk to anyone about Ferrari. I'll tell you, when the time comes to purchase, I'll talk to him before anyone at FofO. Thanks for taking the time Rocco. I'll stop by again. Yeah, I'm up for the get together. Don: Thanks for the info. I'll definitely stop by to see Stuart and John at Brian Jessel's. This visit is long overdue. I must admit that the guy's at Ferrari Quebec in Montreal are really great too. It's a shame that in my experience the boy's at FofO aren't so friendly (as discussed earlier). Wow! I never expected this thread to last so long. This is a great site. I'm having a tonne of fun! I still wouldnt feel safe parking my car overnight somewhere in an underground lot there. Now if I knew someone like Jay does, thats different. |

Graeme, thanks for the compliment on my TR. When I bought it 3 years ago at Brian Jessel Ferrari at 24000 k , the previous owner had installed a Borla exhaust with straight pipes and no cats. The sound is AWESOME but one year later I could not pass AIRCARE here in BC and had to reinstall the complete original exhaust and cats and take the Borla off. Now, I plan to take off the factory mufflers this spring and reinstall the Borla system. With the cats still on I should pass AIRCARE this spring and in 2006 when the car is 15 years old, I can register the car as a collector car in BC , then the cats come off with no further need to go through AIRCARE forever!! I now have 37000 k on the TR and it is running great! All of my service has been done at Brian Jessel Ferrari and I have nothing but good to say about this firm and his team. If you come to Vancouver, go there and talk to Stuart Coutts or John Thomas and tell them that I sent you. They are enthusiastic and courtious and keen on Ferraris with a very good selection of pre-ownned cars. Don. |

Paul, the auto-theft capial of NORTH AMERICA (not just in Canada alone) is a few minutes away from me: Guildford, Surrey B.C. Something around 1400 per 100,000 population (whereas places like NYC and L.A. have about half that...).
Feel fine taking your GTB to Montreal. Graeme, Jessel is a great place. They'll be moving to a new location at a future date. Oh by the way, Don isn't ranting, he's just telling the truth! |

You can buy tickets here http://www.grandprix.ca/ that is the official site. Gives a overview of the track, better get them soon cause they sell out the good seats! I got silvers for $1383 Canadian (4 tickets). If you purchase tickets this year you get first dibs on next years race before they go on sale to the general public. |

Paul/Jay, I have taken my GT4 to Montreal for the GP 2 years in a row. And will be next year also. Montrealers are very respectful of Ferrari's and other exotica. Attached picture is our GT4 on Peel St this year. Only thing I saw afterwards is some finger prints.

Its a canadian thing Brucie, you wouldnt understand. Whats with this vancouver crap and a great hockey team. Who cares if we haven't won the cup since the 60's, the leafs are better. Sam, if you buy an old 308, things will break from time to time, just trinkity stuff. I have no regrets and accept that fact. My wife on the other hand isnt quite as forgiving. Its still a blast to drive and just stare at in the garage. |

Paul and All, Here's My story and I'm sticking to it.... In 1980 I was finishing High School and it was all the rage to rent a limo to arrive in... Me ( Needing to be a little different) put an ad in the T-Star to Rent a Ferrari for a day...My Girlfriends sister ( 16yrs older) let us use her phone no as the contact.....we got 5-6 responses as I recall....most thought it was to be for a photo shot. When they found out it was for a 16yr olds prom nite...all laughed and said "no-thanks"...all but one. He had a 308GTB and said OK but we had to go for a test drive AND we could have it for the 60 minutes prior to the prom ( basically just to drive up in it) Well about 2 days later he called back and said he couldn't go through with it....my dream was crushed!!!!! I vowed to myself ( and my Girl---Who's now my wife btw) I would get a 308 one day.... The day IS HERE..... Sam |

It applies to any 20+ year old car. Things start breaking like plastic knobs, switches, bushings are as dry as a popcorn fart, and so on. Regardless of previous servicing, parts are going to break, they just cost more or are difficult to find. What model/year are you looking for? |

Here's something to ask you fellas "in-the-know"....what are the most obvious things to be aware of when inspecting a 20+ yr old car of great lineage? Maybe one of you can give a dissertation on this in Woodbridge in more detail...hate to fall in love with a whore ( and pay for it...literally...the rest of my life! Cheers....Sam |

Either is fine with me. Lunch may be better if we have big numbers? Sam: I inspected a local US spec Glass 308 today. It has been part of an estate and is a less collectible wet sump car. None the less, very nice condition. Offered at 35K US. I also checked out his F40! 11000 miles and just had a full engine out service. EXTREMELY nice being offered at 350K . My wife made me get out of the car before I could start doing the refinancing math ; )

Boxing day actually gets it's name from the British. The day after Christmas is when all the shops put their boxes out for the trash. It has come to be a day when everything that hasn't been sold gets marked down (or so they tell you). Let's do this shindig in the new year. What do ya say? |

Graeme, we can figure sonething else out, boxing day hasnt been sorted out for me yet and I figure it might be a headache to weasle out of. Rocco does list cars for clients from time to time. Thats where I purchased my 308. Bruce, boxing day is where Canadians watch old boxing matches where the US gets the crap kicked out of them. And like I told you before, Thanksgiving day is where we are all thankful we arent Yankies. |

Sam: It looks as if the 'glass 308 is for sale again at World Fine Cars (Lakeshore/Bathurst). I looked at it over the summer when they were asking C$45K, but passed on it. My wife said it would be better to pay a bit more for a 328. I found one at another dealer and am having it serviced at FoO. So far, Larry and the service guys have been fine. Cheers, Marcelo |

Guy's I've gotta say that joining this chat room has been a blast, and after initiating some of these discussions, you guy's are making me REALLY want to officially join the club. I've never wanted an F/car more than I do right now! It's so much more than just ownership, it's a lifestyle! This is truly infectious! I'd love to catch up with you guy's to hear about your path's to ownership. I don't care who you are, or what you make, purchasing a Ferrari ain't cheap. But I'd give my left arm for an F355 - red over black sans paddles! Cheers, Graeme |

I've heard stories that Remo..The guy that owns FofOnt is a real idiot. He seems to think that he is the only person in the world that should be selling ferrari. I've also been told by a few mechanic's that worked thier that he treats his empolyees like garbage. He also will not sell you a car if he feels you don't fit the "Ferrari look". I would never tell anybody to go there and buy a car...any car. And their service department is very lacking in quality repairs..to high of an empolyee turn over for the techs |

Hi Steve, I know, it is very hard to find F355 for CAD$120K. But this case, I am talking about Private deal. I know, dealers won't give you more than $120K for 95 F355 GTB. Correct me if I am wrong. CAD $120K = USD $77K If I happen to buy a car from dealer, I am willing to spend USD$95K include all the taxes, shiping, etc. But the car should have perfect record, perfect condition and so on. You can find my email address, if you look up my profile. [email protected] When I viisited FoO first time, I wasn't very happy about dealer's behavior, however I really love cars that they had. I never dress up when I go to dealership, just wanna see their truely behaviors to people. Next time if you go to FoO, make sure you talk to Larry (sales manager). He is very friendly, and also will guide you very well. Last time I went FoO, he also showed me inside of serivice. Thank you for the advices. BumJun p.s please send me those lists that you have. p.s As long as it's a F355 I can give up on colours, but must be a 6 speed. |

Hello to all the TO based FChatters! Born and raised TO boy living in California for the past 13 years. Always nice to see your posts/profiles. I hear there has been a early snowfall? Not good for Ferrari's ; ) Looking forward to getting back in a few weeks! To the Post: I'd love to hook up with you guys/gals this holiday season if it can be arranged. Perhaps between Xmas and New Years? Paul: I hear you, they still think Niagara Falls is there's...hee hee. And stop picking on Jay. He's a great guy to know if your going to buy a Fcar. Wonderful resource of knowledge on all things Ferrari. Graeme/Gerrit/Frank: Don't know of Rocks, but last time I was in town(summer) I stopped in at FoO and they we're not too friendly. I guess my Roots Tee shirt didn't say OWNER to them. Typical of most dealers. I'd stick with a quality independant. Hey, Lets all show up at FoO and see how they treat us! James: Yes, Nika is a TO girl. Hope she returns to Fchat soon. I miss her contributions. But I really enjoy your objective view J. I'd have to agree that while I love Fcars, they have obvious issues, and that's not to say that they are better or worse than other marques. You seem to be a real car guy. BJ: I'd say if you could find a F355 for around $120k CAN, you'd have to beat off the US locals first... That's well below current market values for even high milage cars now. I'm currently searching for a 355B F1 and the market is still strong. Until some of the used 360's begin to move, the 355's are going to hold their inflated prices. Best of luck to you on the search though. Send me your email address and I'll forward any info on cars I come across that meet your criteria. Well, that's enough rambling, But I've wanted to say hello to all you guy's for awhile. Have a great Sunday, and look forward to seeing your posts on Fchat again. Steve |

Thanks for all the answers to my question. I've got really good answer from Frank on how to import car from US. So I decided to import a car from US. I may change my mind in near future, but since my budget is limited, importing car from US is the only solution. Price range for early F355s are about CAD$150,000, but that is out of my budget if I add taxes on that. If anyone wants to sell their F355 about CAD$120K, I will be happy to take it, but not RIGHT NOW. I should say next May.

Thanks Pete. I had a broker do all the clearances. I purchased the parts from an Italian dealer, which offered excellent prices and service. I don't know why you would say undoable. Lots of Americans bring in Euro cars and alot more mods are required. I think it depends if you think the savings are worth it. Ferrari NA was very helpful and provided me a letter of compliance. |

Frank, congratulations! I looked into bringing in a US car to Toronto: legally I had to change to Canada spec (primarily bumpers) and have this certified by Ferrari, (dealer not good enough, the manufacturer had to certify). Expensive and essentially undoable. So I bought locally. This true for any car <15yrs old. How'd you do it? Pete G. |

Graeme I got a GTB. I bought my car in the US and had it brought here. No hassle but worth the savings. Service at FofO is around $65/hr. Frank, the head mechanic is excellent and has trained at Ferrari for the 355. I wouldn't have a Rolex watch service at any watch repair place and the same could be said about Ferraris. If I have to buy parts I buy them from Italy. Half the price. With regards to insurance it is marginally more expensive than my Porsche that I sold. All I can say is that I am so excited to finally own a Ferrari. |

BJ, Rock can also find a car for you if Caliber doesn't work out. Make sure you get a full inspection from someone other than the dealers, even if you buy from FOO I've also found Larry to be great. Before I even had a Ferrari or the means to own one he invited me into his office to look at pictures from the various events. While I didn't buy my car from FOO I like Larry, but it is true, other sales guys look at me like I'm a punk when I go in. I'll never take my car to get serviced there and will rarely buy parts from them either. |

Thanks guys. Graeme: I've talked Larry (sales manager) in Ferrari of Ontario, he explained me about those cars pretty well, and he also let me look at service facility. It was fantastic exprience with him. However, when I asked Kris (another sales guy) few months ago, he wasn't very helpful. Frank: Did you buy the 97 F355 GTS that was in F of O this summer? I think, it was the only F355 in red/tan. To all: Please let me know, if anyone who wanna sell his/her F355 (berlinetta or GTS)privately. I will only buy a car in Canada. GTB, GTS or Spider(yikes, did they make a spider in '96?) Must be a 6 speed being a '96. Did you buy it from F of O? Also: Do you know their shop rate/hour? Have you investigated insurance? I'm curious about this cost, because I can't imagine it will be cheap! Congrats! Post some pic's when you have a chance. Graeme |

Graeme, Rock's auto is an Independent Ferrari shop but don't expect to see any giant "Cavallino Rampante's" on the outside. It is very low key so as not to draw too much attention. We usually end up there on the week-end and have an espresso or two, Rock can also locate a car for you and do inspections of any prospects. BJ, I hung around for 2 years before I bought my car, hang in there, it'll come together soon! |

Without a doubt, large group of Ferrari lovers up here. BJ: I'm in the same boat. Don't own a car yet but am working hard towards that goal. Have mortgage, two young kids, and two cars to pay for first. Soon, though, I will join "the club"! I like the 348, but the 355 is absolutely a gorgeous sports car design. I find the sales reps at F of O very snobish. I'm in sales myself, and can't stand attitude like that. Generally, I've found Tony at Caliber and Michael at Lambo of Toronto much more friendly. Wow! Rock's auto isn't far from my house (Pape and O'Connor)Never heard of it, but i'll be checking it out! I assume they are an import sports car specialist?? Frank: What year is your 355? Model? Hi Graeme Most of the TO members of FC see each other at Rock's Auto as Jay said. We also see each other at local FCA events. And some of us arrange side meetings for the heck of it. I haven't made it up to Paul's place yet (seems every time I want to go on a long drive I have a problem, either oil hoses or front exhaust header) but we have met up elsewhere. Since we all have each other's email addresses we just arrange something if the time is right. |

Can I join you guys, when you guys get together? I don't have ferrari rite now, but I am looking to get one next year. (either 348 or 355 depend on my budget) I've already researched on those cars, but I wanna get more info on those cars from owner directly. Also, some feedbacks on Ferrari of Ontario, real cost of maintanance, etc. please let me know, when you guys get together! p.s Jay, where's the Rock's Auto? |

I dont belong to any club and dont know anyone up here to shoot the with. I do know some in TO though. Email me if you like and we can maybe figure something out. |

It seems there are a number of F/C regulars from the Toronto area. Just wondering if any of the T.O. natives have get togethers to talk everything Ferrari. I'm aware of FCC East and their following....are there any members here? |
