Guys, I think the reason most of the latches end up breaking is because the cables strecth over time and need to be adjusted (tightened up) on the lock ends. As the cables stretch it becomes neccesary to pull on the handle harder and harder and all the way up to trip the release mechanism which puts to much pressure on the handle. Yes they may break eventualy anyway, however, I believe they would last indefinately if it wasn't neccesary to pull on them very hard and all the way up before the catches release. When new most of the catches released near the middle or barely above. |

when you do, let me know...I would rather have something that works rather than something that breaks... I know the replacement will brake too. True, the TR (mine is an 86 also) is a wonderful car to drive but too many little things that go wrong look at my TR www.tigersports.com/ferrari.htm |

I had a similar experience with my TR, both housings broke. I replaced the housings and before I installed them I used a small stainless steel hose clamp around the "nub" that traditionally breaks. This should improve the life of the replacements. Really quite simple to replace. I am unaware of any aftermarket product as of yet. Maybe in time. Likely I will machine something up the next time this happens. I do have a small machine shop attached to my garage where I make pieces to keep the race car running. The TR is such a great car to drive, I am surprised at some of the pieces they used on it which are inconsistant with the quality of the rest of the car. Best regards Russ Moore 86 TR 87 328GTS |

both my rear and front hood releases, the plastic housing part that keeps the latch in place, snapped. So now I have to use the emergency pull cord to open the hoods. I bought a replacement for the rear deck cable, and it is just as flimsy as the original. Anyone know if these parts are manufactured in aftermarket aluminum or steel? Any help would be appreciated. The cable did not snap, just the cable assembly snapped at the release housing..if this makes any sense |
