Dave -
I looked at both of the FL cars and they are a piece of s**t. The red one looks OK, but it's begining to get a sticky dash (3K to fix right). It took many cranks to start then you immediately hear a bearing screaming and would not idle. Any 96 or older should have had the belts done last year, neither has had the service done (and God knows what else). The yellow one was even worse! That same company told me, on another car, that the belts were changed when I showed up they said "Oh, I thought you ment the alternator belt"....

I bought a 97 355 Spider about 2 weeks ago from F of SFO. I paid $110K. One owner car serviced by F of SFO. Mint Cond. The price included a fresh full 30K belt service and a 1 year (no mi limit)warranty good at any F-dealer in the US. When you buy from a dealer you may pay a little more, but the peace of mind is well worth it and I sleep good a night...:-)
My $.02

"These are expensive toys that should be written to zero in terms of investment value"

Well said, Ricky. IMO, the cars on ebay are not a fair assessment of what these cars are worth or what they should be selling for. As small as the Ferrari community appears to be, it's still surprising that someone can manage sell a $100k car on the internet... with no test drive at all! How do you verify the miles, the condition of the car, and true owner history?

Dave, I don't think there is something you are not seeing. It's more of a matter of something someone doesn't want EVERYONE to see. My belief is that to own a piece of art, a masterpiece such as a Ferrari, one should be buying from a reputable "gallery" or a true collector/enthusiast. Not to say that ALL cars on Ebay are bad buys (which clearly isn't the case based on some of the deals you're pointing out), but to Ricky's point, piece of mind is important in a purchase like this one, don't you think?

True art is definitely defined by eye of the beholder, but when something is too good to be true, generally, it is.

I dont think fair market value is where eBay bids are...fair market value is in the middle of the bid/ask...in my eyes in between where a dealer (the market maker) buys and where they will actually sell...my 95 F355 was listed at $100,000 and I got it for $91,000 4 months ago. Could I have gotten it for $5,000 cheaper from a dealer 2000 miles away or maybe even $10,000 cheaper off of eBay? Probably, but for me the peace of mind of walking into a dealer and being able to test drive the car was a huge factor....I also got the exact car I wanted as if I had speced it from the factory...and got a ton of work done under the 90 day warranty...I also think if I ever want to sell the car privately I will have a much easier time explaining the history of the car as opposed to saying I bought it off of some guy on the internet....anyway, this is a long winded answer to your question...no, I don't think 355s have too far to fall...and if they do, who cares? These are expensive toys that should be written to zero in terms of investment value in my mind...just my $.02

Two nice 355 spiders recently went for around $80,000.

I find this surprising:

Are we at, or soon will be, the point of $50 k 348 Spiders and $65 k to $70 k 355 Spiders?

And of course, Frank's is a good deal.

Although a fair number of miles, this seems like a very good price, even if a fresh major is done:

Is there something wrong with this car that I am not seeing?

I have also noticed several 355 spiders in the $80,000 range. Is this likely to continue or get lower?

Thoughts?

Thanks, Dave
