Matt,
Glad to hear you've got the BB re-assembled and back on the road. Truly one of the most enjoyable Ferraris to drive, in my most humble biased opinion (20 years now with my 365BB)...

The heat stream you speak of is "normal" for the BB due to how the hot air exit the radiator...and the shape of the windshield. There was a post about this characteristic awhile back...

Regards,
David

Got it back on Friday. The wife and I drove it to San Francisco, about 900 miles round trip. And that was after the 250 mile trip from San Diego. It was a blast and a hoot. Strong car. I will be getting the film developed this week and post the pics. Worth every dime of the cost. I did notice a strange thing. There is a heat stream of air coming along the windows.... Is this normal?

Jim,

It was a big pill to swallow believe me. It still has along way to go but at least it is drivable now. I am picking it up on friday afternoon so I'll post some pic's this weekend. I'll see if they took some more before pic's. I didn't take any except the one's I posted.

I can't wait!

Matt, the 512BB is one of my favorite cars (minus the Elvis seats). I can't wait til you get it in working condition. I was so jealous of the $10K you got it for, but I would not have been able to spend $38K to fix it up. At least not all in one swoop. Post some new pics.

No, I really like the 308. I don't think I could drive the 512 everyday. Plus it stll needs some more work. But now I have a space problem. I am going to need a lift so I can park the 308 under the 512. Or make my wife park the exploder outside. You looking for a 308?

JRV

No, they are making me pay. I wanted to take it to maaco but they were overbooked. Toyota could not find the engine.

Lee,

I am sorry about the chassis number. I know you need it for the registery. I will e-mail it to you on Friday. I also have some documents I need to send as well pertaining to the PO

Ahhh man...Earl Schieb coulda painted it for $199.99 any color, after all easier than a toyota.

Those guys really make you pay or did they just do it for the love of it?

Congrats

The Boxer sounds great. You will get more stares than you can imagine; they are head-turners.

Never did get that chassis number from you.

Dr,

It was running when I got it. It had a fresh service. New filters and such. Pic's are a must! I am counting the seconds...

Dave,

I believe they did a direct order from Pioneer. They keep some old stuff in stock. I have heard it sounds like crap. I wanted a dvd system and all I heard on the other end of the phone was dead silence..guess it did not go over will with them

Horsefly,

That's for the advice on the boxer. I would have sold it with out you.

Hey Matt, even though Thanksgiving is over, I'll bet some of the "part it out" crowd will enjoy having a big dish full of fried CROW when they see the photos of your car. And to think they would have carved it up like a Thanksgiving turkey. Glad to see that you had the finances to save it so quickly.

do you mind posting new photos when you get the car home? I have a black boxer that I simply love. Is the engine running etc... new belts?...has the tank been flushed and new fuel filters put in? Rust is a common problem in the tank, especially with the fuel sensing unit....I had a mess with mine, because i let it sit in the garage without driving it for some time..

When I first got it, mostly every one wanted me to part it out. Horsefly talked me into restoring it. I was going to do it myself since most of the missing parts came with the car. But I quickly realized I was way over my head after talking with James who has one. I originally planned for just the paint and seats to be done but either I was impatient or the shop had a really good up sell guy and I ended up having 60% of the work done by them. It fell into the "might as well" area of car repair

Matt,

Sounds great. Now you have a gorgeous 512bbi for less than a 348. When you get the car back, please post before and after photos of both the exterior and interior. Congratulations!

Ross,

It think the final bill will be well above market. There is still a lot of work to be done. I just could not afford to have it finished by them, at least right now. It is far from mint and concourse condition.

It was at an independant shop in San Diego that does fine restoration work. I bought my 308 from them.

this bill sounds extremely reasonable. must have been an independant shop. congratulations on achieving (nearly) mint, at less than current market cost, and knowing how/when it was all put in. i envy your bargain and am sure a few other chatters do too.

I bought the boxer as a basketcase in September for $10,000. The PO left it a shop for a few years when he was restoring it and died in the process. The estate gave it to the shop for compinsation for the work performed and I bought it from them.It was in rough shape and needs extensive work. Engine and trans were in great shape. There are pic's posted somewhere on here. I'll look for the post

I took it in early Oct and they said it would be done in a few weeks. I was beginning to think it would not be done in time for x-mas but it is. I guess I need to get the wife something nice...to keep her from looking at the checkbook.

I need a lift now so I can park the 308 under it.

Well the Boxer was finished last week and I am going to pick it up on Thursday or Friday. Its is road drivable now. So I might drive it back if I can get a ride or a flight. Final bill came to.gulp $38,000. Needless to say my hopes for a 4-seater are dashed. Its really easy to say go ahead and do it until you realize that there is a cost, usually big, associated with it. For my money they did.

New paint. Red top, black bottom
New Shifter linkage
2 wiring harness
new seats
new dash
new rear brake calipers
new e-brake
new tires
refinished wheels
1 new knock off
new carpet
new headliner
new windshield
new windshield molding
new headlights
new front turn signals
New radiator
new cooling fans
coolant service
new fuse box
new Speedo
new tach
new NOS radio
new NOS equalizer
new wiper
new seat belts
new undercoating
minor rust repair
new side markers
new rear rain lights
new fog lights
new rear left turn signal
new emblems
new master cylinder
bleed and fill brake fluid
new fuel tank
new fuel sending unit
new fuel filter
new mirror (interior)
new door locks
new fuel cap
new license plate lights
new door window molding
replace 1 fuel injector
new air filters
new door open indicators
new window switches
new vent switches
new air vents

Cant wait to see it and drive it.

All in all the car came to $49,000. It still needs about $5,000 - $10,000 of work. Not much left. I could do it but that really is a summer project.
