LMAO.

was busy yesterday afternoon with the Miami Rally for this weekend.

Guys I drive circles around William's 512TR on the track (when he is in the pits):-)

The 348 has much better power than any TR (where was that medication I was supposed to take:-) )

I will race you all out there. We fill up your TRs with Diesel and then bring it on! :-)

:-O was responding to BobD really here. Having fun!

I believe that the F355 was the first of the 8 cylinder cars that was faster than the 12 cylinder cars (around Fiorano)

Ken, it was not the VP of Ferrari but Montozumela himself that made that statement based on his personal 1989 348 he owned prior to taking over the helm at Ferrari. But, you have to take that statement in context. 1) He was just coming on as President of Ferrari and had to establish that he could produce a better car. If he said the 348 was a great car,why would they need him ? 2)It was an early production 348 that had not been sorted out like later cars. Remember, he also stated when the 348 Spider was unveiled in Beverly Hills in 1993 that it was the best car ever from Ferrari ! I have had six Ferraris over the last 12 years including a 1994 348 Spider. It was as good as or better than any of the others including a 328, 400, TR, 330 and BB512i. They were all different but each provided a level of satisfaction that no other car can produce. In fact, my 348 was a much better car , more fun to drive and of a higher quailty build that my 328 by a long shot. And that would make the 348 a better car than the 308 by even a larger margin IMHO. The 308/328 series had the sideways mounted engine like a front wheel drive car that I have never liked . But, that being said, unless you want a Spider, I would go for a TR over a 348 for the power and 12 cylinder sound.

A 348 is not faster than a TR. Well, maybe is the TR was running on 8. ;)

Martin:

While the 348 may be a newer and more technically advanced car, it is not the better car. Remember that the VP of Ferrari called the 348 the worst car ever made by Ferrari (See Forza 348 Buyers guide for quote). With that said, the 348 is a very nice car, but one that I do not want to own.

Bob just shows you how overpriced the 328s are.

Jim, well white is not that bad if it has a black int. but maroon int on a white car is not MY preferred choice.

Wow, hard to believe a 15K mile, '88 TR sells for only a few more bananas than a late model 328... I don't get it. $53K - $55K for a nice TR???

Now Martin you told me last week white was a good color if you are Scott Leonard! ;) $53K sounds a bit low to me especially from a dealer. I would say $55K to $60K is fair for a '90 model with recent $10K services. But hey, offer them the low amount and when they say no you at least know where the bottom is.

the price sounds fair to me. With the service done ($10K) and low miles you are right on below $60K.

Giving the color is not white over maroon.

scott

you pay for the ppi and have it done by a unbiased party(not the dealer) or at least get a written guarantee..
there are a bunch of great and knowledgable guys here on f-chat that can help you in the palm springs area, all you have to do is ask....

good luck, btw, i have a fly yellow, 88.5 tr, and love it..

Scott,

60K for an 88 1/2 TR sounds a little high, unless the car is in perfect shape, both mechanically and paint/body. I picked up my 90TR in February for 55K from a private party, and thought I got a good deal. I did put another 7K into it, but it works/runs great now. It's probably better to buy a well sorted out car and pay a little more, than go down the path I took, which was quite frustrating at times.

Just so you know, Parts and Maintenance are REALLY expensive for Fcars. Things like $600.00 distributor caps are the norm rather than the exception.

If you need someone to look at the car for you, I'm in Yorba Linda, near Anaheim.

Bruce:

I'm located in the Palm Springs, CA area.

The car is offered through an exotic car dealer/broker in Orange County. I'm assuming there are no problems and will definitely get a PPI inspection from a Ferrari Dealer prior to purchase.

Who usually pays for the PPI?

from the details listed and no ppi yet, its probably worth about 55-60k, offer 53k and see where it goes, btw, who is selling the car??private or dealer?? where are you located??

From what I know so far:

The 30k service was done 1 yr ago (approx 1500 mi).
All records are available.
Yr - 88.5 (5 lugged)
Red Exterior/Tan Interior
I assume no accidents - I will find out.
Excellent cosmetic condition claimed - although I haven't seen the car yet...

hi scott

we need more details before a price is justified

find out...

what kind of major service was done 15k? belts, tensioners, etc and who performed it? receipts..

is it a 88 or a 88.5, the wheels are different, one lugged as compared to 5 lugged

what color exterior ??

how many owners, accidents? any dinks, dents etc?

some of the things to look for before you agree on a price and do a ppi...

i hope it gets you started..

regards,
bruce

I need some advice...

I've found an '88 Testrossa with reasonably low mileage (13-15k), a recent major service, all records, manuals, tools, etc. The asking price is in the low $60k's. Is this a reasonable price? I've heard that the Testrossa market is very soft right now and I have never purchased a Ferrari. How much can I expect a seller to come off their price, if any?
