Ernie,

have to agree with you on Miami Vice. That was of course top notch, in many ways, more than 'just' the cars.

The Lambo chase wasn't my favourite (nor is the Goldeneye one), I always think there is at least one idiot driver cause otherwise one of these cars would eat the other alive for the mismatch (I can't see how a 355 wouldn't eat up an Aston Martin for breakfast and a Lambo would be long gone before a Daytona even shifts into 2nd). That's why I loved the chase in 'The Rock'. Yes, the 355 would have gotten the Humvee a lot earlier, but they do a lot of 'terrain' driving where the Hummer is more suited for.

Anyway, my fav scene was the night time shot with the camera mounted on the outside of the Daytona, showing the front wheel eating up the tarmac and Collins playing the soundtrack (In the air tonight).

Just for the record, the Daytona wasn't real and also the Testa had its fair share of gizmos:

Dan and Ryan, the "California Spyder" in FBDO is actually a "Modena" built by Precision Design & Engineering, Inc in the 80's that loosely RESEMBLED the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder (Ford 289 CID powerplant). The actual show car is said to have been destroyed (while filming the garage scene, perhaps?) and the car that was making some show rounds and that I've personally seen at several auctions is actually another Modena that has been billed as the "sister car" to the FBDO car. Precision Design still makes a version of the car that can be ordered as a kit or turnkey but now markets the car as the "CalSpyder" for obvious reasons. I don't know if Ferrari had to pay THEM for the "Modena" name or not, but that would be funny if they did.

Here is a link to Precision Design's website:
http://www.calspyder.com/
(Notice how the "F" word isn't mentioned anywhere in their description of the car.)

Ok I'm gonna have to represent for the 80's kids.

Cummon guys one of the greatest Ferrari shows of all times MIAMI VICE!

My favorite scene was when Crocket and Tubbs were cashing a white Lambo in the Datona. That and any time Crocket had to be some place fast. Just love to see the Ferrari eating up the road and then blowing by. Also the Testarossa halling ass through all the stop lights in the middle of the night.

The funny scene that I remember was when Crocket got the Dayton taken away, and the suprize was he got the Testarossa as it's replacement.

Shame on you guys for not mentioning the show sooner.

Ryan,

My understanding is that the car was actually an MG w/ a body kit. Perhaps the car in the garage was real, but all of the driving scenes, etc. weren't?

All the scenes in Gone in 60 seconds. I enjoyed alot from Ferris Bueler's Day off and actually saw the 250GT California that was in the movie at a show.

I didn't notice that in Ocean's Eleven... I'll hafta pull out the DVD. I did, however, see one in front of Caesar's in Vegas last time I stayed there.

Kevin, those are actually scale replicas of several exotic cars in O-11. There was a Murc and several others I couldn't identify, at what looked like 1/4 scale. Not sure their purpose--they were perhaps used in deleted scenes???

The dealer from "Scent of a Woman" called himself Freddie Bisco. I wonder if he was a real dealer. I've owned the movie since it came out. Probably my all-time favorite.

DISCLAIMER: NON-FERRARI
Here's one for all you triva buffs. In "Ocean's Eleven" they build a scale model of the vault of the Bellagio casino. They build this replica inside a huge warehouse and if you look closley there is a yellow Lambo Murci parked in the background inside the warehouse.

Yup.

Charlie goes: So I guess you love women?
Pacino replies: Above all things. A very, very distant second... is a Ferrari.

Great movie. The tango scene is awesome too. I love the tango. Another great scene in that movie is right before they test drive the Mondial, when he's talking to the salesman.

I've always wondered: what dealership was that filmed in???

Mike; I agree with you 100%!! Al Pacino was great! Driving the Mondial through New York was a fantastic scene.

Another great scene was when he was asked what in his life did he enjoy most. The second half of the answer was...."and a very distant second is a Ferrari." Do you remember what was "first"?

I'd have to agree with an earlier post and say Al Pacino driving the Mondial in "Scent of a Woman" is my favorite Ferrari scene. Scent of a Woman is one of my all-time favorite movies, though.

My least favorite Ferrari scene is in that god-awful movie "the Fast and the Furious" when the Ferrari loses in a race.

A New Leaf w/ Walter Mattheau. 275 GTB. Great opening -sounds like someone hooked up to an EKG w/ an irregular heart beat, then becomes more regular. pull back to show tech dialing in the carbs and saying It looks like it will be alright sigh of relief on Mattheau's face. What was the problem "carbon on the valves" a line used again. Puts on his bell helmet and drives off. 1st half of movie very funny, but it fades.

Magnum P.I.and the movie "Lampoon Vacation" when Christe Brinkley pulls along side Chevy Chase in the 308 GTSi, taunts him and pulls away. That sound and the car pulling away makes cold chills go up my spine.

Just got 'La Passione' from Amazon UK. Sheesh, these guys are fast, faster than our own Amazon. My PAL converter was barely able to cope with it, but it went alright. Love that kid in his kit car, reminded me of my own youth in a soap box, that just looked like a Ferrari from the fifties (well, at least to me anyway).

So if I could only find that other movie I don't yet have in my collection. What was its name again? Ah yes, Insatiable...

Evan, I believe he sold that car through Ferrari of Scottsdale. I saw one there that was identical a year or a year and a half ago. The manager claimed it was the car from the movie, and it was for sale. Not sure if that claim was correct, but I have no reaso to doubt it. They were NOT asking a premium for the car over current market prices. I think it was a 1998 model, and had about 13,xxx miles.

I'd like to know where that 550 in Family Man ended up at. Cage owned that car while the movie was being filmed, and he sold it after they did the shots of the car. I'd love for my first f-car to be that exact one.

Also, the 348spider in Sabrina was a nice touch.

Hello, Joel - exactly what model was used in Boy on a Dolphin? An old friend of mine, John Delamater had some dealing with the car. He told me that for a particular scene, they actually removed the front seat so that La Loren could get in and out more easily! Any truth to that?
Thanks for the great info - where is the car now??????

Let's go WAAAAAAAY back. Sophia Loren - I think the movie was "Boy on a Dolphin". She's in a coupe, possibly a 340 or 375 America. How about "Goodbye Charlie"? Pat Boone in a 250 GT Cabriolet. He mentioned 12 cylinders, 6 carburators and fuel injection! Really knew his cars!
A real rush of a cruise scene - I don't remember the movie title but one of the actors was David Jansen (from the "Fugitive"). He and a beautiful lady were chasing each other through a section of the Swiss Alps, one driving a Daytona Spyder, the other a coupe! They would pop up the headlights when going through tunnels. The sound was there too. Fantastic!

Come to think of it, I remember Teresa Orlowski using fancy cars in her 'films'. Maybe somebody from Germany can comment on whether there ever was an F car part of this. But then again, we're trying to keep FC respectable.

Marylin Chambers in INSASHIABLE II, passes a young guy walking along the side of the road in a jet black 246 dino. She stops, leans out the window wearing this tight yellow "ferrari" t-shirt, and then "picks him up and takes him for a ride"

Saw it when I was 13. That movie ruined me, and it responsible for all of my vices.

My favorite scene is on my 355 Challenge game. If you set the track records on all 10 tracks there is a movie given to you in the gallery. It shows what looks like a 348 with all of the black stuff on prototype cars. Later it tells you it is a 355 prototype at it's earliest stages. Then it shows you a beautiful red 355 diving through the mountains in Italy. There are little clips here and there showing the inside of the car and 5 vales in the clyinders. Just a really cool little 10 minute movie about the beginning of the F355.

I agree with William & William, Gumball Rally has the best sound track. In addition to the begining set in NYC, the scene were the Daytona & Cobra enter and leave the gas station together sends shivers up my spine. Two of the best sounding engines ever made IMHO, the Ferrari V12 and the Ford FE, so different yet each the best in it's catagory. I have just about worn my video copy out. My lifelong friend and I would tell our wives (or ex-wives as the case may be) that we were going to be like the two old gentlemen (we are getting close) in the MB 300SL, their wives were gone but the car remains! A fun movie but from the last time that I was in "Kansas" I don't remember seeing mountains in the background.

Yeah, Boiler Room wasn't on my list either. Gotta get that one.
Heist is a 348. I saw it in the theatre and also got it on tape.
No idea what that 355 oceanfront movie is.
Somebody mentioned Vanilla Sky in the replica threat. Great scene I thought and it took me weeks to figure out the meaning of it and the movie...
Nobody mentioned Family Man so far. Seems that Cage just loves them Ferraris. Even on snow.

Well, let's see... Andrew beat me with "Boiler Room." "Heist" has an OK scene of red 348 Spider I believe. They never show it for very long, so it could be a 355. There is another movie that I cannot recall the name of that begins with a guy driving a 355 Spider to an oceanfront house. He drives it several times throughout the movie.

Hope you can play PAL VHS on your VCR! Don't expect too much from the movie. It is completely mad and quite poorly acted. It does have Ferraris or songs about Ferraris in just about every scene though!
I enjoyed the film more after I'd watched the 'making of' section at the end. Might be best to watch it in reverse order!

John, you can find some additional info about the film over here.
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0117307

It isn't available at the US amazon.com, only the UK and german amazon. So I guess it isn't available at your local blockbuster aswell, but you could always ask and see if they can order it from another blockbuster orso.

I couldn't find a store in the UK that stocked it which is why I bought it from Amazon.co.uk. I had a look om Amazon.com (the US version) and they stock the soundtrack but not the video. I'm sure you could find it somewhere on the net though.
My favourite song from the movie is 'girl in a sportscar'.

I have never heard of that movie. When did it come out??? Also, do you think it is available at local video rental stores?

WHy has no one mentioned 'La Passione' which has Ferraris in every scene? Chris Rea had a sharknose Ferrari replica built for the film and there are also shots of a black 355 being driven round Monza. The film is about a young lads obsession with Wolfgang Von Tripps.
There is also the brilliant song in the film 'Shirley, do you own a Ferrari?' which is performed by Chris Rea and Shirley Bassey. I have the film on video tape. It's a bit mad and very wierd but it is about Ferrari's so that's OK!
Here is a link to Amazon where you can buy it

I'd have to go with the Daytona in Gumball also. Especially the first rule of Italian driving scene.

Not my favorite, but I don't think anyone has mentioned the Dino in Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams. I cacn say that is the most surprising Ferrari I have seen in a movie, definitely didn't see it coming that they'd throw that in there.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the 348 Spider in Showgirls! Quite possibly the 2nd worst movie I've ever seen.

I'm with William on my favorite, the Daytona in Gumball Rally.

Danny and Rob, you're both right: First he drives it through a window and eventually it gets crushed by the San Fran trolley. Up to that point it looked really convincing, but once you see the plastic/fiber glass body not buckle, but just crack, you realize they just killed another Fiero.

I always loved the dude's line on the motor cycle: "Man, you just f$$$ed up your Ferrari." And Cage dry as they come: "It's not mine."

The 355 in the rock went through a glass window, nailed about 6 parking meeters, slalomed through 5 gallon water jugs, and finally got crushed by the trolley.

You can tell that the 355 is a kit car if you look closely when the trolley nails it.

And the dead give away with the car in Ferris Bueller's Day Off is that Ferris, Cameron, and Samone could all EASILY fit in the the 250 SWB California.

Too bad the new Bond movies can't throw an F50 or Enzo into some of the scenes.

Danny,

you could join the Ferrari Club of America (FCA), they don't require ownership. I did that years before I got my F car.

BTW: I'm still working on this movie list myself. Some of them are close to impossible to find. I'm trying to collect them all, but I guess in some cases that means waiting for them to show up on TV

Oh, the 355 in "The Rock", oh wait, they crash it through a window.

Ok, the 308 in "One Crazy Summer", oh wait, they chop it up to become a sail boat engine.

Then the California Spyder in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", shoot, they reverse it off an elevated garage into the trees.

Oh I've got it now, the 355 in "Fast and Furious", heck to it, they let a rice burner blow it away and make the owner look like a jerk.

Heck with all the movies, we get no respect!

Christy in Vacation use to be the Gold standard...but I now have to agree that GoldenEye is better.
Sexy, Sadistic, ex-Russian fighter pilot, with a sweet smile and a reckless attitude, racing through the cliffs of Monte Carlo. How can you beat that?

Tom - You're right! Christy Brinkley in a red 308 GTSi (National Lampoon's Vacation) is an all time classic. But Christy does look just as good in a Mondial (Vegas Vacation). I'm just more partial to the 308.

Glad you mentioned "The Hidden." Love mid-budget quirky movies. Also on that list, not necessarily F-car related, though, are : Repo Man, From Dusk until Dawn (alright, big budget, but when it goes from crime-noir to nouvelle vampire, i gotta laff); Killing Zoe (good, nonferrari driving sequence). Oh yea, and in the previews before the latest J Bond movie (the car chase sequences in the movie sucked in my estimation, too many special effects, not enough real driving), there was a "commercial" for the Z car, involving a high speed drive thru Prague. It was far more compelling than any of the car stuff in the movie, IMHO.

Definately "Ferris Bueler's Day Off" Although its not a real California Spyder, it looks great - and great music, too. Second favorite is "Rain Man" with Tom Cruise driving a 412.

Many movies have been made starring F cars and often people mention Magnum PI, but when I'm driving my 308 hard, I never think of Selleck. The favourite scene that comes to my mind are the opening 3 minutes of 'The Hidden'. And it has the music to top it off.

So, what's your fav F car scene on the big and small screen?
